Is there a list of what is classed an ‘essential shop’?

For example are pet shops essential? Are banks?

GIN

Greendin · 23/03/2020 21:13

Food and medicine

DangerMouse17 · 23/03/2020 21:16

Milk. Bread. Fruit and veg. Medicines.

RedRed9 · 23/03/2020 21:20

It’s more the lack of tonic I’m concerned about @poshme Although to be honest, the way I feel tonight I could probably get on board with drinking it neat!

Storage companies. Very strangely. No idea why 🤷🏻‍♀️

Weatherforducks · 23/03/2020 21:25

From an online Sun article tonight:

Brits will only be able to go to supermarkets, pharmacists, pet shops, hardware stores and newsagents in an unprecedented high street shutdown.

Weatherforducks · 23/03/2020 21:27

Sorry missed a bit...

Banks and post offices will also stay open so the vital services they run can continue to be delivered.

InDubiousBattle · 23/03/2020 21:28

How about Home Bargains and Pound land? We have both nearby and they sell food and medicines?

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 21:28

Does this mean all non essential shops are closed? If so when will that happen or has it already happened?

RadioRodeo · 23/03/2020 21:28

Will banks or/and post offices be open?

HarrietThePi · 23/03/2020 21:36

Banks, post offices, food and medicine/health care (including pets).

I'm unsure about dentists - maybe emergency treatment only? Shops that sell a mixture of food and other things like the pound shop, maybe it will be up to the owners discretion?

JorisBonson · 23/03/2020 21:38

Dentists are emergency only. I had an appointment cancelled today.

Do you know where the Sun got that information?

Also, why are hardware stores classed as essential?

@redred9 in case your toilet breaks I guess? Grin

Frankiecandle · 23/03/2020 21:47

My DH would count a hardware shop as essential.

donquixotedelamancha · 23/03/2020 21:50

Do you know where the Sun got that information?

Presumably when Rupert Murdoch told Boris what to say he also copied in the Sun.

How about Home Bargains and Pound land

At work, we've received a letter from Poundland, stating that they're an essential retailer @InDubiousBattle

Canklesforankles · 23/03/2020 21:52

Require to close:

“all non-essential retail stores - this will include clothing and electronics stores; hair, beauty and nail salons; and outdoor and indoor markets, excluding food markets.”

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 21:53

Poundland Is essential Confused can I ask does anyone know if Argos will be open? My asd daughter relies on her Disney DVD’s and Sod’s law hers has broken tonight. Don’t know how She will go through 12+ weeks without it.

TwittleBee · 23/03/2020 21:53

What about the shops inside hospitals?

mummymayhem18 · 23/03/2020 21:56

Will Amazon still be delivering as they sell just about everything and I have a few orders pending or in transit.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 23/03/2020 21:57

Food. Medicine. The ESSENTIALS required to survive. It's not hard.

mummymayhem18 · 23/03/2020 21:57

@Twittlebee I'm sure I read they will stay open.

TheGreatWave · 23/03/2020 21:58

pumpkin if they are you will have to get one delivered. There was nothing on the site when I just looked.

I guess B&Q will be as busy as ever then. Hmm

AwdBovril · 23/03/2020 21:58

@Drivemybluecar - storage companies - do you mean they are to close or they're remaining open?
