London lockdown now, no travel, shops close, full lockdown Wednesday if people carry on ignoring advice.

OP posts:
RoseAndRose · 23/03/2020 19:22

Less drastic I think - this is essentially the 4ish press conference running a bit late today

The big measures come on Wednesday

Buscake · 23/03/2020 19:23

I think nationwide lockdown

ThisTimeMine · 23/03/2020 19:24

I think closure of non essential shops, in line with Scotland. Can’t see lock down happening yet

Helenj1977 · 23/03/2020 19:24

He's addressing the nation though, not a press conference.

Final warning, behave or lockdown will swiftly follow.

SpeedofaSloth · 23/03/2020 19:27

Put me down for lockdown at midnight.

iMatter · 23/03/2020 19:28

Lockdown from 10pm

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2020 19:28

It had better be lockdown.

RadioRodeo · 23/03/2020 19:29

I think he'll announce all non-essential shops are to close, no more than 2 people out together at a time and no going out unless it's to food shop or go to the pharmacy, but we can still exercise/walk outside.

So a soft lockdown, of sorts.

Fartintheloft · 23/03/2020 19:30

Yep, lockdown at midnight for me too.

LynetteScavo · 23/03/2020 19:32

@RadioRodeo I hope you're right. I need to get DS from the other end if the county.

Topseyt · 23/03/2020 19:33

Lockdown, I think.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:40

Warning Brits to come home now, if they want to return, does indicate lockdown soon

  • flights only for essential travel.

Seems SOP:
Germany brought home about 150,000 Germans in 9 days for our lockdown here

  • and ordered them to self-isolate for 14 days
BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:42

That's pretty much what we've got in Germany
You get used to it
Try not to worry, folks 💐

LaurieFairyCake · 23/03/2020 19:43

Plus going to work

HuntIdeas · 23/03/2020 19:43

Lockdown Nationwide. Won’t do only London as people will flee to holiday homes like they did in Italu

LouQoo · 23/03/2020 19:44

I’d say a kind of advisory lockdown for now, then a full lockdown on Thurs/Fri - once they’ve got the necessary legislation through.

Babyroobs · 23/03/2020 19:44

Lockdown tonight I think.

Stupidanduseless · 23/03/2020 19:46

If no more than two people going out - does that apply to children? I have to take both of mine because too little to be left so if it does I won’t be able to even go out for medication.

MabelMoo23 · 23/03/2020 19:47

You can’t really do an immediate lockdown, you have to give people the chance to get to safety if they aren’t home (even if they should be) . So maybe lockdown from midnight tomorrow?

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/03/2020 19:48

He's addressing the nation though, not a press conference

Can someone explain the difference please? I noticed the press as stating he is addressing the nation, but what's the difference, it sounds more dramatic for sure..

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2020 19:49

I think it should be lockdown and I hope it will be.

I was expecting a lockdown in Ireland when the government asked all citizens who were abroad to come back by last weekend, but it hasn't happened yet.

The approach here is quite different to the UK, it's testing, testing, testing of everyone who reports symptoms of any kind, then self-isolation while waiting for results or when they come back positive.

kittykat7210 · 23/03/2020 19:49

Lockdown from whenever the bill passes, most likely Thursday or Friday

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:52

We (germany) have most people working - WFH where possible - except for those in hospitality, entertainment, hairdressers etc

Work, go home, stay home, except for a solitary walk / cycle
1 person at a time can go shopping

Talk that Merkel should impose a full lockdown and only allow essential services to work

Which kind of lockdown is Boris planning

  • do it in 2 steps, or jump right in with a hard lockdown to get it over with ?

That's what's supposed to be happening, but in reality, there's a backlog of 40,000 people waiting for tests. So the 'testing, testing, testing' isn't happening, and presumably there's no contact tracing till they test positive, so as a system, it's a bit of a fail.
