My husband and I are self isolating. We have had a horrendous bug that we are assuming is the virus. Thankfully we have not been hospitalised, so have not had a test and are not part of the statistics. It led me to wonder, who else is at home with awful symptoms that no- one knows about?

I don’t know! I feel crap at the moment. Part of me thinks it isn’t it and it’s just because it’s around, part of me wonders if it is.

I live in Hampshire so there’s lots of it around:

Dry cough, headache, tight chest, a temperature off and on and feel absolutely knackered! It’s become more mucusy today (day 3 of cough) so I’m wondering if it’s cold. My lungs felt quite burny but to be honest it’s felt overall more cold than flu in severity.

Anyway we are completely self isolating for 14 days as per guidance.

My son has a similar cough but luckily seems less affected.

I hope you’re okay OP!

Duffy888 · 23/03/2020 18:26

Think my 19 year old son has it, has had a dry cough and fever along with body aches for 5 days, hardly got out of bed. Seems to be getting better now though. Hope you feel better soon.

Standrewsschool · 23/03/2020 18:27

I think, the statistics are wrong also, as only a small oercentage have been tested.

Hulabalula · 23/03/2020 18:28

From what I’ve read my DH had an absolute textbook case of it just before Christmas......

Whydoesit · 23/03/2020 18:30

I think we have had it or still have it rather.
I’ve had colds on and off all winter and one bout of flu and this was a bit different to the colds which is why I think this is “it” ... no worse, in fact a bit easier but unusual in the fact that for me it was all about coughing and then wheezing (I’ve never wheezed in my life) and absolutely no sneezing or blocked nose. Another member of my household had a fever with it. We’ve all had the hacking cough for over a week but it seems to be easing. I can still feel it on my chest a bit though.

We’re ok fairly central London so it’s not unlikely.

PineappleDanish · 23/03/2020 18:33

A friend and her family most certainly have. All the classic symptoms and the cough was horrific. None tested.

pooopypants · 23/03/2020 18:36

I wasn't tested and steroids halfway cleared it but I'm fairly sure I had, around a month ago. Severe shortness of breath, tight chest, wheezy and all that fun stuff. 2 courses of steroids as I have asthma and it was put down to that. I've had steroids before but never 2 courses, and those 2 courses didn't clear it fully, I'm still taking my inhaler multiple times a day and we're in SI anyway.

LakieLady · 23/03/2020 18:36

We both had a "flu-like illness" (fever, aches, dry cough but now phlegmy). We're on day 10 of 14-day isolation, which just happened to coincide with the two weeks annual leave we'd booked.

We're still feeling knackered, although managed a bit of gardening today. And I seem to have lost my sense of taste - I find myself fancying this or that to eat, make it and when I eat it, I find it really doesn't taste of much.

bruffin · 23/03/2020 18:39

I think, the statistics are wrong also, as only a small oercentage have been tested.
Last figure i read was or 83,945 tested but only 6650 are positive in the uk, that is less than 8% so 92% of suspected cases havent got it

LakieLady · 23/03/2020 18:39

Should have said, we haven't been tested, but then we didn't tell anyone we had those symptoms. Should we have notified our GP or something?

I'd quite like to be tested. It would be nice to know.

leckford · 23/03/2020 18:40

Friend I see daily went to South African in December, came back with this awful bug. They were in contact with Chinese people whilst in game parks. I got it on Xmas day for nearly 2 months. Had a chest infection that went with antibiotics, but still not 100%. Everyone else in the same place got it to lesser extent.

Have heard Chinese students were in hospital in U.K. last year with mystery virus.

MinesaPinot · 23/03/2020 18:47

The more I think about it I wonder if I did. I had a sore throat one night after a class, the following day I couldn't stop coughing and when I got home from work I had my dinner but was sitting on the sofa shivering. I still felt cold when I went to bed on jimjams, socks, the duvet and a throw. I had a nasty cough for the next four days or so and I ached all round my rib cage. I had two days off which is unheard of for me. Absolutely no sneezing, blocked nose or anything. I disregarded it because it was at the beginning of February and I hadn't been in contact with anyone suspect, so far as I was aware.

DH and I both slept in the same bed but he didn't seen to suffer., although he came home from work on the Monday and couldn't get warm. It took another week or so to feel like my old self.

CappyCapCap · 23/03/2020 18:50

I genuinely think I had it. About the time it kicked off in Italy. I went to a board meeting and 4 days later started with a cough. Then ached everywhere and bad temperature. By the saturday I called 111, because I couldnt breathe properly and then sent me to hospital.

When I got there they asked if I had been to china etc. I said no, bit pointed out there had been 40 people, across the day in that meeting room. Some of which had been travelling. Doctor said that was fine. He said it eas just a normal virus but I had got a chest infection from it, so gave me antibiotics for it.

Ds got the same. We are both still exhausted from it. My sense of smell and taste seems to have got worse in the last days. That's been an issue since I was I'll.

Just really struggling to find some energy. Hoping a few days rest and WFH. Eating better food, not convenience food, proper sleep and spending more time outside will perk me up.

CappyCapCap · 23/03/2020 18:50

Can I just point out, I never say I have had in RL. I think I did. But who knows.

MinesaPinot · 23/03/2020 18:52

Lakielady have just read your post. I lost my appetite as well. Remember pushing my dinner around the plate on the Saturday and Sunday evenings. That never happens however bad I feel.

HonestlyItsFine · 23/03/2020 18:55

I was quite ill in Jan/Feb time with a viral illness. However, obviously I don't know if it was IT or not.
I wish we had antibody testing already. I would pay for it privately for peace of mind.

NordSjoen · 23/03/2020 19:02

Yes I do. I slept for four days straight two weeks ago with a spiking temperature. Hideous cough that left me feeling like I was going to puke up a lung, followed by a week of diarrhoea and even actual vomiting once. Still coughing (today particularly bad, pain across my back), unable to catch a full breath. But been back at work (special school) and definitely not totally wiped out like I was two weeks ago. Not as bad as the flu I had two years ago which had me on the sofa for two weeks and my son at his dad‘s as I couldn’t look after myself let alone him. But it’s lasted longer overall as I started coughing with a headache and sore throat three weeks ago.

prelovedsweetie · 23/03/2020 19:02

Beginning of March I developed a dry hacking cough a few days after a trip to London. I dozed a lot during the day when the cough allowed but managed to drag myself around to get meals etc. although I lost my appetite a bit. I had a temperature which reached 39 deg. but that only lasted for about four days. I should say at this point I have had the pneumonia vaccine which is supposed to ease that side of the virus, and although I went on to develop a chesty cough with a lot of mucus I definitely felt better. I would also say I still have a cough and I get very breathless although that is improving. My symptoms seem to fit, but it could easily have been a low dose of normal flu which the flu jab didn’t quite cover. It would be good to know for sure one way or the other though.

rosieposies · 23/03/2020 19:03

Me and the kids were really unwell in January - fever, lots of shivering, awful cough, bad throat, aching, but I mean these things go around at that time of year so who knows

BillyAndTheSillies · 23/03/2020 19:15

I think I'm currently on day 6. Temperatures, sweats, tight chest, fatigue, headaches, have had no sense of smell since Thursday and taste went on Saturday.

The cough is constant and unlike a cough I've ever had before. It's dry to the point it almost sounds fake, there's no tickle or sore throat or chestiness. Usually, if I have a cough it'd definitely be chesty after a week.

Today has been a better day, but I spent 10 minutes washing baby bottles and loading the dishwasher and had to lay down for half an hour and catch my breath.

I've been self isolating with DH, DS(4) and DS(6months). My 6mo is coughing and has random temperature spikes. Four year old and DH are both absolutely fine.

MrsSnitchnose · 23/03/2020 19:17

Not me, but think one of our Deputies may have had it over Christmas

Lima45 · 23/03/2020 19:38

Not me, but my Dad was hospitalised mid February, had a dry couch and a temperature. Ended up with pneumonia in the HDU on high pressure oxygen. Got a 2am phone call and thought we were going to lose him.

Thankfully he turned a corner and pulled through but he's still not feeling right.

They opened the pod for testing at the hospital about two days after he was admitted. I'm sure he was an early case that just missed testing because he was already there.

Lima45 · 23/03/2020 19:39

Dry cough sorry fat fingers

Lucked · 23/03/2020 19:45

No. I feel run down/fatigue but that is stress I am sure. I think if one of the household had it we would all succumb and at least one of us would have proper symptoms.

Given that I work for the NHS I live in fear of being an asymptomatic superspreader.

DICarter1 · 23/03/2020 19:47

I know this sounds stupid but how do you tell the different between Covid 19 and a cold. I have a sore throat, tickly cough which isn’t persistent and a runny nose. I’m feeling paranoid that I’m ill.
