Covid
metallic taste in mouth, slight burning. Oral thrush perhaps? Anybody else?
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 12:03
Day 4 of the most foul metallic taste in my mouth, since waking up this morning my mouth and throat both seem sore and a bit prickly. My tongue looks a little pale and off colour and I have an area inside both cheeks which feels a bit bumpy and sore.
I do suspect I have the onset of CV due to other symptoms but I know the first two US patients were confirmed as having oral thrush with CV.
Does anybody else on here have this or recognise the taste? It's driving me doolally.
fartyface · 23/03/2020 13:39
I've got a Wierd taste and mild sore throat. Strangely it has come sometime late morning the last few days.
Can't work out whether to be concerned or not
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 13:42
That is the same as mine, when I wake up I don't notice it but by late morning it has crept back. 4 days of this now. I've brushed my teeth, used mouthwash, drank lots of water and it's still there. My tongue feels quite dry.
Ditto to the mild sore throat too!
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 13:43
DH is going to the chemist to get me some oral thrush gel, I can't remember the name. I'll update the thread and let you know if it helps or not
GrumpyHoonMain · 23/03/2020 13:48
With viral illnesses the bitter taste in your mouth comes from phlegm / coughing. If you don’t have that then it’s likely something else.
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 13:57
I don't have a persistent cough and no temperature, so that's all positive.
What I do have (and have had) is:
Gastrointestinal disturbance, to put it politely.
General fatigue and feeling unwell
Aching limbs predominantly my legs
Abdominal and back pain
Constant need to clear my throat with a very small amount of phlegm
@LadyPenelope68 That's the one! He's going to get it now.
I'm not even one hundred percent sure it is oral thrush but I'm fairly sure. I've never had this before. I do have a raised sore patch inside both cheeks.

That metallic taste is a massive sign OP, or a lack of taste. I'd self isolate and try and say the right things to get yourself a test. The person in my town who had it sent a message to say the lack of taste and smell was the most obvious sign.
forkfun · 23/03/2020 14:12
Self isolate. That's exactly how it started for me and my partner. He's fine now, my lungs are on fire and I have a high fever.
bilbodog · 23/03/2020 14:22
Metallic taste can be stomach acid as i get this with reflux. If you have other gastro intestinal symptoms then it probably is acid reflux and early signs of cv. Gaviscon might help? Hope you feel better soon.
SummersMahoosiveClipOnFringe · 23/03/2020 14:34
I had this and it there from time to time. A third of people with CV don't get the cough.
I think I have it. Started with a temperature, weird swollen uncomfortable sort of sore throat, shivers, cracking headache, aches, nausea and has developed into breathlessness at times of smallest exertion.
Terrible fatigue too.
I didn't think I had it at first because I was going along with the advice the CV=temp+ cough. Then I read about the GP who had the horrible, acrid taste who was later confirmed to have it.
I am convinced I have it. Another sign was feeling rough for a couple of days, feeling okay for one and then going right downhill again.
SummersMahoosiveClipOnFringe · 23/03/2020 14:36
Just want to add this is unlike any other illness I have had. The weird sensations in the lungs but with a and lack of cough/runny nose/sneezing etc
SirVixofVixHall · 23/03/2020 14:38
Metallic taste is a symptom of CV, and as your other symptoms fit it does sound very much as though you have it. Hope you feel better soon.
Wheresthebiffer2 · 23/03/2020 14:38
are you pregnant? I had a metallic taste, it was the first sign, and prompted me to take a pg test.
SirVixofVixHall · 23/03/2020 14:39
Really would NOT send your partner out, he needs to isolate with you.
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 14:55
Told DH not to get the gel and to stay indoors.
Oh Jesus I'm bloody scared now.
I've thought for the past 5 days I'm getting it so I've stayed in the house, but have tried talking myself out of having it this past day because I haven't developed a bad cough or temp. I've been trying to rationalise that it's something else
SirVixofVixHall · 23/03/2020 14:58
On the positive side it sounds likely that you may well have it more mildly, so just take care of yourself, rest, don’t try to do much, take vitamin C and zinc, gargle with salt water or TCP, and hopefully you will be back to normal pretty soon.
Wishing you a speedy recovery OP.
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 14:58
Pregnancy has been ruled out with a test.
I have a huge sense of dread now. My immune system is poor.
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 15:00
Thank you SirVix I really hope so.
Today is day 5. I've felt reasonably ok today. I managed to sit and watch (and enjoy) the walking dead. I got a bit of my appetite back.
I've come over really anxious now though, and as soon as I did, boom stomach ache.
SunFleck · 23/03/2020 15:00
Apparently loss of taste is a symptom that some people have for the virus. It's a relatively recently identified symptom.
VividImagination · 23/03/2020 15:02
I had an odd, metallic taste and felt very tired for a couple of days last week but nothing else developed and it’s now gone.
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 15:09
We don't have a car at the minute, we are in London and ambulances are taking 5 hours to get to people. What on earth am I going to do if I take a turn for the worst?
If I get bad I'll manage at home as best I can but my immune system is poor and I don't have alot of strength as it is
Roostersmum2 · 23/03/2020 15:11
@Pluckedpencil I don't think I'd be able to get a test unless I declined rapidly as the NHS is only testing those admitted into hospital who are critical
willdoitinaminute · 23/03/2020 15:19
Metallic taste is likely to be altered taste sensation due to action of virus on the nerves that supply sense of taste and smell. You sometimes get taste changes with a heavy cold or sinusitis.
It has been observed that a lot of very mild cases present with only this symptom.
willdoitinaminute · 23/03/2020 15:23
And the metallic taste is usually experienced when you are recovering and may last a couple of weeks.
It can take up to a month to totally recover.
