Mountain rescue are appealing for people not to go out to places where they may need rescue if they become ill as the whole team would then need to isolate if the patient was infectious.

Also A and E staff don't want to treat injured cyclists when they could be dealing with cv patients.

I saw lots of recreational cyclists out today.

Just thought it's worth saying as it might just help a bit in this crisis.

I see the mountain rescue reports on Facebook. They said they were called out to a man trapped on the side of snow don. They first checked his covid status, ie any symptoms and when he confirmed he had none they rescued him. What would they have done if he had symptoms? Left him there?!

My dds ride and we have two horses who love exercise. We never see anyone else, but that's not the point. Its potentially dangerous and i don't want them to clog up a hospital. We are now only light hacking, no jumping, but i am fully expecting to have to just turn the horses out in the field for 6 weeks or so

Cycling has been banned in other countries

Recreational cycling has been banned. They're not going to say you have to drive or walk if cycling is the best option.

cologne4711 · 23/03/2020 17:21

(to get to an essential job)

BeetrootRocks · 23/03/2020 17:21

Oh sorry pothole pothole misread!

Agree. And of course not everyone has decent transport which is why they're cycling in the first place!

I really don't get the cyclist hatred.

The vast amount of casualties on the road are due to cars.

PotholeParadise · 23/03/2020 17:26

Adeline

Which is better for social distancing? Getting a bus/taxi to and from work/the supermarket or cycling there?

You may not have thought about this, but other people have. Even in other countries, where you need to fill in a form to say that you're going to work, they would rather their key workers cycled than crammed up against each other on public transport.

NotDisclosedToday · 23/03/2020 17:34

Cycling is a recommended activity. Just do it somewhere flat and safe and not up a fucking mountain. Also please don’t put the words mental health is quotation marks, mental health is a very real issue right now.

100% this

crapette · 23/03/2020 18:26

They haven’t actually banned cycling though it’s just the opinions of randoms on the internet

Well they didn't initially ban cycling (for leisure) here in France but it is now not allowed solely for leisure purposes.

Can I send you my fine to pay if I get stopped?

Boredbumhead · 23/03/2020 18:28

Better not breath, just in case

Not so funnily enough, NOT breathing is precisely what I'm worried about.

Aka being dead,

Go for a walk...

...But not all in the same place! I'm near the country so will find somewhere with nobody else around easily enough. Harder for city folk.

ikeairgin · 11/04/2020 13:45

If they ban cycling then I'm not going to work and that will be one less picker for the delivery service that everyone is relying on. There are no buses at that time and I'm sure as hell not working so I can pay for a risky taxi ride. I've done the risk assesment. Cycling is the safe-ist and most reliable option.
Personally I think cars should be banned for the duration in urban areasb- then everyone can get healthier and we can improve air quality (Most journeys in cities are less than three miles)

cologne4711 · 11/04/2020 14:14

Best not go out for a walk either because you might trip over a paving slab and break your ankle.

In fact the only safe thing to do is stay in bed wrapped in your duvet (and then the house might go on fire).

I am not belittling the mountain walking thing, people who do that are idiots at the best of times when they go out in bad weather and then expect people to risk their lives to rescue them, ditto that stupid surfer when we had the storms. But cycling is a form of transport, not just a leisure activity for MAMILs.

I live in Snowdonia. There’s nobody here. Some trouble makers are posting photos of previous busy bank holidays and claiming it is happening now. There are also police everywhere. Unlike police in a city they seem to have the resources to stop every car.
