China already "back to normal"?

Can anyone explain? Apparently China is now over the worst and things are returning to normal. So that's about 3ish months for them? Why are we looking at schools potentially being shut for months and events being cancelled in the summer?

My sister is a teacher in China, back in the UK currently as fled when Coronavirus became a thing. The schools are not open still and things are still restricted. They're expecting a second wave as foreigners are flying in and are immediately being quarantined.

I believe the who when they say their numbers tally with the Chinese. To say the Chinese are lying, means you’re also saying every global health agency is lying too and it’s a global conspiracy. I think that’s rather far fetched....to say the who and all the other global agencies are lying to protect China.

And I think the wording of “ expecting a second wave” due to people bringing it in is the wrong terminology. It’s possible, and they have seen new cases due to people bringing it in. But it’s important to distinguish between how they control that and what happens domestically. Because what happens when they release the restrictions domestically is going to be important for the rest of the world.

Because so far we have not responded to this they way China have. The Chinese government weren't just preventing people from going to pubs and restaurants, they were forcing people to stay at home and only allowing them out under very limited circumstances.

So far most western governments are not willing to introduce this level of restriction on their populace. Even in Italy, where hundreds of people are dying a day, the lockdown measures are not as strict as those introduced in China. Therefore it's likely that it will take longer for the virus to die down in Europe than it has in China.

We are also looking at three months. Twelve weeks to be over the worst is specially what the government have stated. It’s the same timeline.

I am just saying what I heard from a front line hospital doctor in Shanghai. New internal transmission cases are not Zero in his area. Just how unfettered WHO access is is probably up for debate, they probably don't want to rock the boat too much. There is way too much politicisation of this between USA and China.

Well, 3 months from now would take us to the end of June and schools close halfway through July anyway.

Have you seen the photos of people in China having their front doors welded shut?

strawberrylipgloss · 21/03/2020 17:52

Plus Boris is trying to delay the peak to the warmer months on purpose so the NHS copes better.

ShanghaiDiva · 21/03/2020 18:01

I know people who have had doors taped shut to check they did not break quarantine, but no experience of doors being welded shut.
