China already "back to normal"?

Mincepies76 · 21/03/2020 16:03

Can anyone explain? Apparently China is now over the worst and things are returning to normal. So that's about 3ish months for them? Why are we looking at schools potentially being shut for months and events being cancelled in the summer?

Our (UK) schools close in July, so maybe reopening in June (3 months time) just wouldnt make sense.

Also, China had taken a very different approach to the UK. The UK are resisting a lockdown where as China enforced this.

strawberrylipgloss · 21/03/2020 16:14

China is expecting a second wave when the restrictions traveling into the country are relaxed

Wauden · 21/03/2020 16:16

Including eating bats and wildlife?

midgebabe · 21/03/2020 16:20

I don't think it's fully normal either

Mincepies76 · 21/03/2020 16:21

I wondered that @strawberrylipgloss ...

I watched a Hong Kong news report on YouTube a few days ago. They are closing down the temporary hospitals they built and are releasing patients with Coronavirus even though they haven't recovered. They are just saying all that to save face. The Chinese government have form for lying, I learnt this after living in Beijing for over five years. Don't be surprised if there's a resurgence in China either. I also suspect that they are lying about the death toll as well.

Aveino · 21/03/2020 16:21

Watching with interest...

Fartintheloft · 21/03/2020 16:29

@ViserionTheDragon I wondered this, just a tad suspicious that all but one are from people bringing it in. Especially when the figures are (albeit extremely mildly) on the rise.

ViserionTheDragon · 21/03/2020 16:39

Indeed!

Here is the link to the report I mentioned:

Samtsirch · 21/03/2020 16:44

I wouldn’t believe much that the Chinese government say.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 21/03/2020 16:49

You do know that the Chinese authorities are not always completely honest don’t you?

Backyard72 · 21/03/2020 16:54

China being back to normal is their usual propaganda machine working in overdrive. My wife is Chinese and doctor friends of hers are furious at the govt. cover up. Zero new cases, excluding those imported is bs. Reduction definitely but with many schools about to reopen there watch for new flare ups.

Backyard72 · 21/03/2020 17:04

@viserion that sports stadium full of beds that they closed down and made a big show of, saying everyone was recovered, well they actually just moved all 4000 patients to a new temporary site a short distance away. The Govt. are working very hard to create the image they've done everything perfectly, and it getting out of had was the fault of various low level cadres and over zealous police. Lots of serious ass covering going on.

definitelygc · 21/03/2020 17:09

A friend of mine lives in Hong Kong. They are certainly not back to normal where she is. Schools still closed, people working from home, everyone still wearing face masks to leave the house. She says currently anyone who lands in HK from abroad has to go into a 14 day quarantine.

Freshnewus · 21/03/2020 17:15

China are lying... It's China ....

Metoyoutoo · 21/03/2020 17:16

I wouldn’t believe a word that came from the Chinese government

buttermilkwaffles · 21/03/2020 17:16

Not back to normal:

ShanghaiDiva · 21/03/2020 17:21

It is not back to normal, but things are changing and in some provinces (those that had fewer cases) schools have reopened with restrictions in place such as mask wearing, temp checks etc. My dd’s School is not open yet. Restaurants local to me are now open. My local, private clinic opened about two weeks ago, but cannot see anyone with a temp or virus symptoms, but it is a small improvement.
The huge concern now is people coming back to China and bringing the virus back with them. There are strict quarantine measures in place and it can take 10 hours from arriving at the airport to being
‘processed’ and allowed to self isolate at home or to be taken to a quarantine facility. Self isolation/quarantine is compulsory even if you have no symptoms.

Bluntness100 · 21/03/2020 17:21

China isn’t back to normal, but they are very slowly lifting the restrictions. Very slowly. This was covered by the who in one of their press conferences.

They are lifting slowly because they wish to watch for a second wave. This does not mean they are expecting one, as someone oddly claimed, but the who and rhe Chinese authorities are being cautious and watching the situation as they slowly ease the restrictions to see if there is a second wave.

So no it’s not back to normal, far from it, it’s a very cautious lifting of restrictions so they can see what happens. This will benefit everyone, as what happens there Will likely happen in other countries when they ease restrictions.

Freshnewus · 21/03/2020 17:22

According to this. Italy have half the amount of cases documented..... Yet the death rate is higher in Italy.

China are covering up the death rate.

Also 15 million phones have been reported inactive... Whatever that means.

China already "back to normal"?

Bluntness100 · 21/03/2020 17:25

The who and cdc etc have been into China and have reported they have been given unfettered access and that they think the numbers are accurate.

If there is one thing we know about the who, it’s that if they thought there was a cover up, they’d say it, in fact shout it from the roof tops. They aren’t. All the global agencies are saying the same thing. They have had a huge number of scientists in there and the Chinese numbers are accurate.

WeakAndWeary · 21/03/2020 17:26

Seriously? I'd as soon believe Putin as believe anything from the Chinese authorities and I wouldn't believe Putin under any circumstances!

ShanghaiDiva · 21/03/2020 17:27

I am not commenting on what China may/may not be covering up or on the number of cases. My comments are based on personal experiences and photos etc from friends and colleagues.

HowIrresponsible · 21/03/2020 17:28

I don't believe it's many others don't.

I also believe it was out a lot earlier than they said it was.
