I live in a tourist spot in north wales. Today we have seen so many people coming to the area in caravans or camping. My friend works in a local hotel. They are still open for current bookings till next week. Today he has had more than 10 enquiries for rooms "to get away from it all". People asking if the restaurant was open "as its wales not england".
The same rules apply here as well, nothing is open, it's not even that nice weather. Most of the tourist attractions are staying closed instead of opening for easter. There is nothing to do.
If you are thinking about this please don't. You are endangering everyone. Our local hospital is really not that great, the whole system is under strain. Our supermarkets have very little food. Just please stay home.

But if they are helping keep the hotel and it's staff in business what's the problem? Maybe they live in the city and just want to walk along the beach of go for works in the countryside

exLtEveDallas · 21/03/2020 15:33

Ysbyty Gwynedd has 8 ICU beds. That’s it. It’s a great hospital for elder care and it is constantly full. If the idiots that rammed the A5 yesterday get sick and need hospital treatment they are going to die - or the oldies that need the beds too are 😨

Casino218 · 21/03/2020 15:35

I'm from Keswick ( don't live there now) but seeing from all my friends that do still live there that the market square is full of people. They have no hospital that could manage this!!!

AngelicInnocent · 21/03/2020 15:35

And maybe they will take the virus from the city with them and give it to all the hotel staff, who can then take it home and give it to their families, who can then take it to the supermarket and give it to the other customers etc etc

Ginnymweasley · 21/03/2020 15:35

Because they are not doing that. The local hotels are shutting. Our hospital is struggling, why should their need for the countryside trump the locals need for good healthcare. I'm sorry but the advice is essential travel only. This isnt essential travel. Look what happened in Italy. We have only a few cases atm I dont really want to see my elderly neighbours die because an influx of people stretch our local hospital to breaking

It must be those with second home doing this!

Ginnymweasley · 21/03/2020 15:37

My local hospital is ysbyty gwynedd btw. 8 icu beds as a previous poster said. On my street 4 of my 10 neighbours are over 70. There is an aging population in this area.

And still people don't get it

The ignorance is astonishing

MinesaBottle · 21/03/2020 15:40

Mum lives in Anglesey and has seen the same. She’s a retired nurse and used to dread holiday times as the already-busy A&E in their small local hospital would be overrun. The local population skews elderly and yes, there is only Ysbyty Gwynedd for ICU.

Ginnymweasley · 21/03/2020 15:40

foxears the ignorance is astonishing isnt it. Such selfish attitudes.

But AI also notice some other Keswick locals advertising their market- in the open air! So...they can't have it both ways!

minipie · 21/03/2020 15:43

🤦‍♀️

The advice says no non essential travel.

MinesaBottle · 21/03/2020 15:45

Exactly minipie. Fucking boo hoo. I’m from there, now live in London, would love to be able to go and be near Mum but I’m staying here.

Real people live in these places and they don’t want the virus either.

Ginnymweasley · 21/03/2020 15:47

minesa I hope your mum is ok. There is a lot of local community spirit and help sprung up which is great.

You really have to ask?

justchecking1 · 21/03/2020 15:50

I really wouldn't come to Wales. We've got double the number of cases per capita than England. And less ITU beds

Applejaxx · 21/03/2020 15:56

I live in North Wales as well. Are you in or near Snowdonia by any chance? I saw on Facebook that the car park and roads in Llanberis are rammed full of wankers tourists.

They all need to fuck off.

Ginnymweasley · 21/03/2020 15:56

I think people see a number like 2 cases on anglesey and think great it's safe but they dont consider how small anglesey is relatively speaking. Same with most of wales I imagine.

OP posts:
Ginnymweasley · 21/03/2020 15:58

I live near conwy so not far from snowdonia national park. I saw the same pictures. It's insane. They are literally filling the roads wanting to climb and walk. It's insane esp in march when let's be honest the wind is fucking biting cold

OP posts:
Applejaxx · 21/03/2020 16:00

There are cases in all over North Wales, not as many as in South Wales but we do have a few in Anglsey, Flintshire and Wrexham.

Applejaxx · 21/03/2020 16:00

And no, you couldn't pay me to go up Snowdon at this time of year either even if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic.

Wotrewelookinat · 21/03/2020 16:03

Same in coastal Suffolk. Aldeburgh and Southwold have doubled their normal winter numbers from people escaping London. Local hospital will never cope and there are mostly only small local food shops not geared up for these numbers at this time of year.

MinesaBottle · 21/03/2020 16:07

Ginny she’s doing ok. My brother lives nearby so has been helping out. She’s in good health fortunately. One good thing is we’ve finally managed to persuade her to get internet in the form of data on her phone so she can FaceTime with us!

She’s a bit of a worrier though and has been fretting about things like whether she can go out at all, can she get her paper, about her friends (some of whom are in poor health) etc so worrying about this too isn’t going to help.

Ginnymweasley · 21/03/2020 17:15

Their are local pictures of tourists lining the streets in llanberis, in abersoch they have bought their own beer and set up in a local beer garden of a pub which has obv shut. The locals are getting angry. Luckily no one stops in our village. Anglesey, llyn peninsula etc are getting it a lot worse. I do worry what will happen if they all start coming to llandudno, it's full to the brim with the elderly. But hey they get a nice trip to the sea side.

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 21/03/2020 17:19

Idiots. This is where the police or army should be deployed to tell people to go home. Especially the idiots who've brought their own beer to a closed pub Hmm
