Saw friend on sat, was self isolating as kid was ill but she insisted on coming in on the basis that we are all going to get it anyway. We didnt hug or anything but I’m sure we would have been nearer than a metre.she started being ill Tuesday, got worse weds, worse fri and was admitted to hospital today. I’m at risk with underlying health issues and I’m lying in bed frozen with panic that I’m going to get it.

I don’t think that there’s anything that you can do , to be honest, other than self isolate and hope for the best.
Your friend was selfish but you should have said ‘no’ to her visit.

shakeituntilyoumakeit · 20/03/2020 22:51

I can’t stop crying.

Flowers I'm so sorry, OP, I'd be really anxious in this situation too. I hope that you stay well.

lljkk · 20/03/2020 22:54

Did she have symptoms on Saturday?
If she didn't have symptoms on Saturday it's very unlikely she gave you anything other than fear.

shinyredbus · 20/03/2020 22:54

nothing you can do now im afraid. Wait and see if you get any symptoms. you should not have seen her if she was self isolating - its done now, just self isolate and keep an eye on yourself.

TurnOffTheTv · 20/03/2020 22:56

Why on earth did you go and meet her? Absolutely fucking stupid. What about people you may have been in contact with this week?

TorkTorkBam · 20/03/2020 22:56

She came into your house because she thought you would get it from someone else if not her? With friends like those who needs enemies.

Chances are you'll be fine.

What can you do to distract yourself?

shakeituntilyoumakeit · 20/03/2020 22:58

I didn’t meet her we were in and she brought something back she’d borrowed from me. It was fucking stupid of me I know I’m literally sitting in the dark crying and panicking now.

Exercise. It’ll artificially raise your temperature so may inhibit reproduction of the virus. Maybe a long shot, but still...

Notimeforaname · 20/03/2020 22:58

Try not to panic, panic and stress actually lowers the immune system.

As others have said there isn't much you can do now.
Almost everybody who gets it, WILL recover fully. For every negative thought you have, try to thínk of a positive.

I'm aware that's near impossible to do right now, just trying to help as best I can Blush

Holdmenow · 20/03/2020 22:58

Because “we’ll all get it anyway” yeah we’ll meeting up like that you will, but if you hadn’t met her then you wouldn’t be in this position. The mind ACTUALLY boggles! Hmm

BBCONEANDTWO · 20/03/2020 22:58

Has she tested positive for Covid 19?

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 20/03/2020 23:00

Only thing you can AND SHOULD do now is to properly self isolate and contact people you were in close contact since. That's it.

Maybe it will make people around you to start taking this bit seriously...

Notimeforaname · 20/03/2020 23:00

But don't exercise if you do feel ill.. , it can keep you sicker for longer because your body is using up the vital energy it needs to recover and fight.
That goes for common colds too.

CuppaZa · 20/03/2020 23:00

Why on earth did you allow her to ‘come in’? You need to work on asserting boundaries

GalleyHead · 20/03/2020 23:01

Yes, has she actually tested positive for this virus?

All you can do is calm down, wait it out and in future don’t let someone ‘insist’ on coming in in the middle of a pandemic.

BBCONEANDTWO · 20/03/2020 23:02

Sorry missed the point that she was tested positive for covid19. I think all you can do is try to stay calm and relax - you might not have caught it - and you might even be immune - thought with you.

shakeituntilyoumakeit · 20/03/2020 23:02

She is the only person we have seen and we haven’t left the house apart from before they said everyone had to self isolate

OP posts:
onemorerose · 20/03/2020 23:02

Try not to panic, you’ll hopefully be fine. The panic is not going to help you, play something mindful on your phone

shakeituntilyoumakeit · 20/03/2020 23:03

Because I’m a massive fucking idiot and I can’t do Boundaries. I know I’ve brought this on myself I’m so stupid

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 20/03/2020 23:07

I am really 🤦 at how many people don't seem to understand what self isolating means!
Is your friend on another thread claiming she self isolated while still running errands?🙄

Looks like people are going to learn to say "no" the hard way now...

Notimeforaname · 20/03/2020 23:08

Stressing is doing you no good now. Its actually useless.
You've learned a valuable lesson from this and you'll keep yourself safer in the future. Flowers

coconuttelegraph · 20/03/2020 23:15

Has your friend actually tested positive or is she ill with something else?

As everyone else has said there's nothing that can be done now, hoepfully you'll be fine

blueberryporridge · 21/03/2020 00:50

Try not to panic. Although corona virus is infectious, it is not nearly as infectious as some diseases (eg measles). Try lots of deep breathing to calm yourself and try to get some sleep. For what it's worth, I was at a meeting with someone who subsequently tested positive for the virus. She had no symptoms on the day of the meeting which was 13 days ago. I seem to be fine so far (fingers crossed) as are people who were in closer contact with her than I was. Have been self-isolating since I found out.

PS: I am NOT downplaying the risk of the virus as I firmly believe that we should have far more social distancing and social isolation in place than we currently have. I'm just saying that OP is not definitely going to catch it. OP: be really firm with your boundaries from now on. Sending you very unmumsnetty virtual hugs.

agonyauntie2020 · 21/03/2020 00:57

Please stop blaming yourself. It's her fault not yours and if you don't get it this time, you have learned to be harder and have boundaries for the future. Be gentle to yourself in your mind if you can. And do something to take the stress down a notch, whatever that might be for you. Good luck.
