Parkdean resorts refusing to shut their 67 parks across the UK. All open for business as usual including pools, restaurants, bars, arcades, the lot. No consideration for the local healthboards where these parks are based, no consideration for the elderly / vulnerable permanent residents that live in the areas these parks are based. No refunds being offered as they are 'open for business' so customers who aren't willing to lose their money are travelling regardless of government advice and blatant disregard for their customers and staffs health! Haven, Center Parcs, Pontins, Butlins even small independent businesses are closing but this large corporation REFUSES.

I agree they should be responsible however I also think the government needs to grow a fucking backbone and tell places to close.

lowwtide · 20/03/2020 09:51

I agree but I live in the area of one of these parks with my elderly and vulnerable parents. We have one hospital within a 3 hour drive. We cannot take hundreds of people flocking here in their masses. It will wreak havoc on a small rural community. People will die!

Government needs to shut them all down completely until at least august.

Report

Again I agree lubey but in the meantime they need to do the right thing like all of their competitors before they have blood on their hands

If the government shuts it down the government has to pay

Are you not getting a refund on a booked holiday is that it op?

I booked with an independant and they are not closing until told to but they have offered to move our booking which we will do

Did you not take out insurance when you booked your holiday OP?

Report
lowwtide · 20/03/2020 10:20

@Nousernameforme I have not booked a holiday. I live in a small community where one of these parks, who takes tens of thousands of visitors a year is based. A largely elderly community, with one hospital in a three hour distance. Our local NHS cannot take it. Our vulnerable community cannot take it! We won't be the only one of their parks based in locations like this.

So it's money over lives..

That works both ways. If the park isn't shit the the owner is putting money over lives that's your point, yeah? If people choose to travel and continue as normal because they are not getting a refund they are ALSO putting money over lives.

We have a holiday booked at the start of next month with Parkdean. As far as I can see, they are contacting people who have bookings up to the 3rd April to offer them to change the date of their holiday?

We are holding out and hoping that they will close, as it's the only way we will get a refund/credit, and I can't afford to throw away nearly £400

Report
Kraejka · 20/03/2020 10:39

The government should tell them to close.
It's ridiculous that they are telling people to stay away yet all these places are open.
If they are closed then people can't go to them. If they are open, people think the situation can't be that serious. If they aren't in a risk group themselves and have spent a lot of money and the park is open then they aren't going to voluntarily stay at home.
That's why you have people still going out to pubs or going on holiday to places like this.

It is not unlawful to stay open. Boris Johnson was very clear yesterday - thankfully - about being a strong proponent of personal liberty.

Bunn Leisure are the same - they have a massive park in Selsey, West Sussex. A rural and quite cut off town on a peninsula with the nearest hospital half an hours drive away. They aren't closing either.

I’m with you on being pissed at this, OP. So irresponsible. These morons going to these rural places need to know they won’t have a decent A&E. Many elderly live in these places too.

The gov need to step in and just close everything like this.

Haven were refusing to close up until yesterday. I held out expecting them to eventually give in. We were due to arrive ok 23rd March. Haven now closed and offering refunds or date change.

I expect, and hope, Pardean won't be far behind.

It’s all because of a lack of strong leadership from this crap government. Force them to shut and provide decent financial support for workers. That’s all they need to do. And not universal credit either.

If there was one time where personal liberty shouldn’t be an option surely this is it? These places need to be closed as too many people will not make the right choice to cancel their holidays. Lives depend on the government removing personal liberty.

I didn’t realise Haven had finally decided to close. Yesterday, I saw that Butlins were transferring bookings there which I thought was insane. I don’t understand why people are saying the government need to tell Parkdean to shut. Do they not have any common sense?
