My daughter works in TKMaxx and they are closing UK wide after today for “the foreseeable future”

Also heard that Clarke’s are closing.

Daughter is salaried luckily and will get paid as normal for now, but who knows what the future holds?

I’m very happy it is happening now instead of November. So many people use libraries as a nice warm place as they can’t afford to turn the heating on. It is still fairly chilly, hope the government does something to help the most vulnerable, with their heating cost. One of my mothers friend is one of these people, recently divorced and trying to live on universal credit and she normally takes her children to the library straight after school after they have eaten the pack lunch she had prepared. She don’t like hand outs and does manage her money well. Yes, we had to chip in an help her at the beginning, but she is very frugal what will happen to the rest or her when the heating & electricity bill increases? Because she has the children at home and she was a self employed cleaner at a restaurant. Now the restaurant closed, money is going to be tighter. The library does more than house free reading materials.

My eldest works for British Heart Foundation charity shop, they have been closed till further notice.

QuimJongUn · 21/03/2020 13:24

@lilgreen all Fenwick stores have closed.

lilgreen · 21/03/2020 13:28

Yes of course sorry, I meant before the virus .

JosieJasper · 21/03/2020 15:24

I've heard that banks are considered essential services and are open

Unfortunately yes, but please can I ask that people stay away where possible and just use online/mobile or telephone banking. We want it to be a safe environment for the many elderly customers who don’t have access to or don’t understand modern ways of banking. And also want to keep virus free ourselves.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 17:51

Seasalt is shutting its shops and John Lewis shuts on Monday closing time, some JL staff will be redeployed to Waitrose

littlenamechanger · 21/03/2020 19:06

Oliver Bonas, Joules, Arcadia, New Look all closing.

Who is still open?

Next... House of Fraser... Debenhams... river island? Paper chase?

Lovemusic33 · 21/03/2020 19:08

River island is shut I think as is top shop. All clothes shops should be shut, should only be food and medicine stores open.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/03/2020 19:12

Some charity shops are still open too.

Paperchase is still open for now.

I think it shows a lack of care to their staff if they stay open past this weekend.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/03/2020 19:14

Cath Kidston closing..

browzingss · 21/03/2020 19:16

I think lush closed their stores as of this evening. It would be interesting if they switched their factories to produce hand sanitizers and hand soaps like Louis Vuitton’s parent company has in France. Lush should theoretically have the infrastructure and supplies. Not that they have to, of course

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 19:17

And WhiteStuff closing

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/03/2020 19:17

Yes Lush have now closed their U.K. stores

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/03/2020 19:18

Fat Face stores closing after tomorrow,

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 19:25

Next are having all sale stuff home delivery only, I wonder if that means they will close within a week or so as sale stuff always takes longer to deliver, for non sale it was still next day delivery to store

TARSCOUT · 21/03/2020 19:25

@Tampa I am a landlord. If we freeze.rent or give rental holidays we can't pay our staff. So very worrying. We are.about to become a no income household as.many of our renters will just stop paying. Vicious circle.

littlenamechanger · 21/03/2020 19:48

Next were running their sale in store today. Totally irresponsible.

Legoandloldolls · 21/03/2020 19:57

Cath Kidston has shut??!! That's it. I'm done.

Tbh I have four kids and now have zero intention of buying any clothes or shoes for anyone this year. Where would we wear it? Who's going to see us? No shoes to wear down either. I'm going to let the youngest run around in pants and vests for the summer and I have three pairs of primark joggers. So I'm sorted. No school run = full on slob out

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/03/2020 20:07

Next were running their sale in store today. Totally irresponsible.

That shows a total lack of duty of care to both their staff and their customers, it's abhorrent really.

PickAChew · 21/03/2020 20:23

I'm shocked that Next thought that was OK. It's usually a scrum in there. It's not like they couldn't easily shift the stuff online since they have had e-commerce at the core of their business since it was possible.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 21/03/2020 20:42

I thought Next sale was only online This time not in store, I never go to the instore one anyway

littlenamechanger · 21/03/2020 20:51

This is from their Facebook. So they were running the sale but without the marketing.

Signs still in the windows, items ticketed as normal.

Shops are starting to shut
daisychain01 · 21/03/2020 21:19

Yes Lush have now closed their U.K. stores

Thank God for that!

Mind you their stuff is so full of chemicals I'm sure they'd be strong enough to kill off any virus.

Utterlybutterly8 · 21/03/2020 21:26

Haven’t RTFT but just saw John Lewis is closing all its stores Sad

copperoliver · 21/03/2020 22:53

John Lewis closing Monday.
Joules closing too. X
