How do I get either Paracetamol or Ibuprofen for pain relief.

I have Lupus, Fibromyalgia and Costochonderitis and take prescription meds for it. I use to get both of the above on prescription but that was stopped last tear and was asked to buy them over the counter. I gave about a week supply if I drop down to a quarter if what I usually take.
I dont want to phone the Drs yet as they are so busy.
Any idea?

I think you should definitely phone the doctor now as it will take a while to sort out. My GP surgery have an online form for this kind of thing now.

Good luck

None in any shops locally? Ask on Facebook for any locally? Tell us where you live and we can try to help.

Duchessofblandings · 19/03/2020 14:15

Where are you?

MaggieFS · 19/03/2020 14:16

Ask your local pharmacy if they can contact you when they next get a delivery, and failing that you will have to ask the GP for a prescription.

TheLinerunner · 19/03/2020 14:17

Does your GP surgery have online access?

Mine has switched to online only for med requests Shock

SmallChickBilly · 19/03/2020 14:17

Give us a rough idea where you are - I would gladly drop a pack round to you if you were near me!

FredaFrogspawn · 19/03/2020 14:17

Local Nextdoor online community site. Post a request - people are really kind. Someone did on our local one and about ten people offered to pop some through their door.

VanGoghsDog · 19/03/2020 14:18

You can also order online from online pharmacies for next day delivery.

A pain you can't get the script, not for the cost but for the bulk!

TwigTheWonderKid · 19/03/2020 14:20

I have some ibuprofen OP. I could post you some?

Xiaohei · 19/03/2020 14:20

If it’s for CV you should NOT take ibuprofen let me see if I can find a link .... It was written up in British Medical Journal last week

catanddogmake6 · 19/03/2020 14:21

Ibuprofen might become more available over the new few days/ week as you are now not recommended to use it for Coronavirus. Also worth asking friends if they have a stash as you can’t use it. Other than that speak to your Pharmacist - some are keeping medicines back for those who really need it and your GP (ours have an email address for non time critical issues). Hope you find what you need.

Embracelife · 19/03/2020 14:23

Talk to your pharmacist

Shosha1 · 19/03/2020 14:23

Wiltshire in the a small village in the middle of the plain. and yes, eversince they were taken off prescription it has been a pain to get any. I usually get them from the local pharmacist when I pick up my prescription as they know I used to have them on script. But they have none now.
DH has been trying to get some each day as he is a Truck Driver and is still working.

Drs only have repeat scripts online which I cant use as one if my meds cant be done that way.

Have put a request on FB and we had a note around today from our 0airbrush councillor so might try them.

There’s a stack of ibuprofen in every shop I’ve been in for the last week because people only want paracetamol for CV.

If you read the OP you would know it is for Lupus, Fibromyalgia and Costochonderitis

LIZS · 19/03/2020 14:23

Ask at pharmacy counter.

InDubiousBattle · 19/03/2020 14:24

Most shops near to me have plenty of ibuprofen as it shouldn't be taken for CV. Small, local shops seem to have been less decimated by the panic buyers if there's somewhere like that near you?

Tulipstulips · 19/03/2020 14:25

And I live fairly close to you (Wiltshire/Oxon border)

Shosha1 · 19/03/2020 14:25

@Xiaohei I have seen that. But it also says not to stop taking it without speaking to a Dr.

My local Superdrug had Ibuprofen this morning and some cough products containing paracetamol. Presumably more paracetamol behind the pharmacist counter. They had Calpol too. Inner London.

Shosha1 · 19/03/2020 14:29

Ok have emailed Surgery and also local pharmacy asking if I can be put on a waiting list for it.

Since the announcements that people with the virus should not take ibuprofen but paracetamol instead (unless they are already taking it for other conditions in which case they should consult their doctor), it will be available in the shops quite quickly again.

DownWhichOfLate · 19/03/2020 14:44

If you don’t have any luck with Facebook let me know. I’m happy to post some to you if you get desperate!

AmberAndAlexsMum · 19/03/2020 14:47

Amazon, I have ordered ibuprofen to be delivered on Friday.
