DS really poorly but we can't go to hospital

I don't know what to do. DS is 12. We are self isolating as we've both been poorly with a high temp and a cough. He has had a three day headache which has got significantly worse today. He is in agony just moving his eyes from side to side, won't let me turn the light on, hasn't got out of bed for 24hrs.

He is rousable but just goes back to sleep when I leave the room. His temp is now normal but he is still coughing. What the hell do I do in these circumstances?

999

Kenworthington · 19/03/2020 13:25

Cal an ambulance

FishingPaws · 19/03/2020 13:25

999 - it sounds as though he needs to be fully assessed.

LefttoherownDevizes · 19/03/2020 13:25

hmm I would ring 999. Any rash? Whilst it's likely to be Covid you need to rule out meningitis, so please do call for help

Hope you're all feeling better soon

GalOopNorth · 19/03/2020 13:25

Have you checked for rash? I would want to rule or meningitis, sepsis

Brooksey5 · 19/03/2020 13:26

Ring 111 in the first instance unless he has difficulty breathing

FaithInfinity · 19/03/2020 13:26

Why can’t you go to hospital? My local hospital is trying to keep respiratory and other conditions separate where possible. He needs to be seen urgently. I’d call 999.

squiglet111 · 19/03/2020 13:26

The headache could be caused by sinuses. Can you raise him so that he's not lying flat? So extra pillows? Until 999 come or advise!

Apolloanddaphne · 19/03/2020 13:27

You definitely need to call for help. 999 would be appropriate.

Nursing83 · 19/03/2020 13:29

Anyone can still go to hospital the advice is IF your symptoms are manageable stay at home. His obviously arent manageable so get to hospital by which ever means is safest for your son but be sure to let everyone know he has a cough

bloodywhitecat · 19/03/2020 13:30

You need to get him to hospital, good luck I hope he's OK.

Mumdiva99 · 19/03/2020 13:31

Good luck. Call 999.

Cockola · 19/03/2020 13:37

I'm calling 111 as advised by the 111 website. I've woken him up and asked him to sit up for a bit. He is talking in full sentences and is not breathless at all.

Have checked for a rash and he doesn't have one.

Thank you for replies, I will update. I'm hoping its just a really bad migraine caused by whatever it is we have both had. I had a bad headache yesterday but it doesn't seem to be listed as a symptom anywhere of Covid

Glassio · 19/03/2020 13:39

headache is on the symptoms list and the 3 people I know who are now diagnosed all have had headaches.

UYScuti · 19/03/2020 13:44

If sinuses are an issue the neti pot can help if he would use it?

NicLondon1 · 19/03/2020 13:46

Cough, temperature and headache ARE the main symptoms of Covid.
Especially if it is a dry cough - if it is phlegmy, it's more likely sinusitis.
Please call 111 or take him to be assessed at A&E x

GameSetMatch · 19/03/2020 13:49

Ring your GP, I don’t think hospitals are taking any children in if possible, my son burst his ear drum on a Monday and apparently he can’t be seen by anybody even his audiologists.

Thisismytimetoshine · 19/03/2020 13:50

Of course headaches are on the symptom list Confused

Tulipstulips · 19/03/2020 13:53

If he’s rousable and not having trouble breathing, I don’t think he needs to go to the hospital. Give him paracetamol, and hope it improves. Make sure he’s drinking plenty too.

headinthedrawer · 19/03/2020 13:53

Call 111.He is not breathless, sitting up and talking so not 999 or hospital unless they advise you to.Fuid and paracetamol whilst you wait to get through.

AnotherMurkyDay · 19/03/2020 13:58

People get different symptoms with a temperature. But common ones are feeling hot and cold, chills, body aches, head ache, feeling and/or being sick. Sounds like he has the Coronavirus symptoms

Atalune · 19/03/2020 14:02

999

I would.

Cockola · 19/03/2020 14:03

I'm pretty sure we both have Covid. I work in the emergency department at the hospital and more than likely have been exposed to it.

I'd really rather not take him to the hospital. Waiting for 111. Have just gone up and he's still sitting up awake, fluids and paracetamol given. Was there any decision on ibruprofen being good or bad? The only other weird symptom he's had is a nose bleed yesterday but that came after a coughing fit so I think just the strain from that. If his temp was still up i'd be calling 999 but it isn't

OP posts:
ToolOfAFook · 19/03/2020 14:10

Ibrupofen is bad, best to avoid

Mumdiva99 · 19/03/2020 14:12

If he's now sitting up talking it doesn't sound as bad as your first post. So 999 doesn't sound appropriate now.
