What did you manage to find in the shops today/recently?

I got gin two days ago in Lidl. None today. Well there were a few weird flavoured gins, but I normally buy just plain gin so didn't buy any of the weird ones.

But...... I managed to buy a 12 pack of tissues in a pound shop (2 packets of 12 left - I got second last pack) and I got a kitchen cleaning spray - £2 for a Flash cleaning spray (a new fragrance - French soap or something ). Usually those sprays are a pound only.
That was my loot from today.

What I couldn't get was:
Pesto sauce (Lidl)
UHT milk (it's what I usually buy, as I live alone so wouldn't consume enough fresh milk to justify buying it) - Lidl
Paracetamol (2 x pound shops and Lidl)
Vit C (2 x pound shops and Lidl)
Vicks First Defence (Boots)
Pistacchio nuts (Lidl)
Toilet paper (anywhere)
An online delivery slot from any shop

I'm in North East London and went to Walthamstow.
Lidl was more empty of produce than it was yesterday. I think they haven't been re-stocking AT ALL. It's just getting progressively emptier.

I got everything including toilet roll this morning. I was in Lidl at 8.05am. It was thronged! Shelves were packed but diminishing rapidly with every vulture who jammed their baskets. I've never seen anything like it. Saw 2 separate men going with 4 x 9 packs of toilet rolls. Again, several men with about 10 packs of W5 antibacterial wipes.
Oh, only thing I couldn't get was UHT milk. I even managed to get gin (looked like a proper alco at 8.30am with a litre of gin).
Vultures. Pure and utter greedy bastards. People were picking up as much of everything that they could carry.
Oh, couldn't get paracetamol either.
Queue went to the back of the store, around the bottom of the aisle and up to the front of the store again. Mayhem!!!

I shouldn't have to brave the shops again for a week.

I picked up the last tin on the tinned vegetable shelf- tinned spinach?! Honestly didn't even know it existed. My DC will be delighted (not).

turdtimelucky · 19/03/2020 09:55

Yikes. Tinned Spinach sounds grim. Popeye was a fan!

Went to my local Tesco express and there was literally nothing there no bread, no frozen or chilled food, eggs, canned food. I did manage to get some coffee and they had lots of Easter eggs and crisps. That was it.

Actually starting to get scared now.

I went to Morrison's at 7 this morning and it was busy. Queues at tolls, empty shelves ect. Very luckily managed to get everything we need. I feel for people who can't get around or restricted by times. I think everyone's got same idea. Do a big shop before schools are off

turdtimelucky · 19/03/2020 14:15

Seems like they're doing a big shop every fucking day for the past 10 days the greedy bastards.

There are some people who have literally no shame. Overwhelmingly men and overwhelmingly of a certain race - not going to say whether that's pink, black, blue, white or yellow. I wanted to whack them on the shins with my basket. The greed was unbelievable.

There was one tiny little old woman in the midst of the chaos of Lidl this morning with her 4 pack of toilet roll and she looked so bloody vulnerable with big strong men behind her wrestling to get in at the toilet rolls while she was queuing for the tills. Poor little lady. A fly could have knocked her over, but I suppose she didn't have anyone to go shopping for her. Going at opening time, is NOT a social event. It is literally MAY THE BEST MAN WIN. I've never seen the likes of it in my life. Most of the other supermarkets I shop at have emailed confining the first hour to shopping for elderly or people shopping for vulnerable.

Local fruit and veg shop had plenty fresh veg etc. Very busy doing deliveries but I nipped in as was nearby. Apart from loo paper got all my other items. Shops weren’t too busy.

turdtimelucky · 19/03/2020 14:27

No shorter of fresh food. Meat/milk/cheese/meat etc. All in their usual abundance. It's the dried foods/tinned foods and anything that you can stock pile which seems to be being grabbed at a furious pace.

A pack of fifty Fairy washtabs. The only pack of Fairy left on the shelf in Sainsbury’s. Such a relief as my son gets contact dermatitis from other washing powders.

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 14:32

The NAAFI shop on the base has bread! Woooooo!

IpeartreeI · 19/03/2020 14:33

I got kitten food and paracetamol. They only had the posh cat litter and I can't really afford that, so I didn't buy any.

housepurchaseanger · 19/03/2020 15:18

Ribeye steak, smoked salmon, bread, avocado, filtered milk, dog food. What I went in for and it was all there :)

Gingerkittykat · 19/03/2020 19:14

I wonder why Lidl are not restricting to 2/3 per customer like the other supermarkets?

turdtimelucky · 21/03/2020 03:43

Lidl is directed from a central office in Germany rather than in the countries they have outlets as far as I know. They might therefore be slower to uptake national trends. That would be my presumption anyway.

Toilet roll! Grin We have been looking since Monday and finally got a 6 roll pack today. I also got two packs of tampons for DD and two packs of own brand team lady for me.
Life is good Grin

bluetongue · 21/03/2020 03:55

Loo roll for me. The limit is one pack per person but it was a 20 roll pack. I live alone and had an 8 pack at home already so I’m good for ages now.

I also got 1kg of beef mince. They also had a nearly full shelf of sliced bread.

Everyone was actually pretty calm and the whole thing outing really made me feel better.
