I got gin two days ago in Lidl. None today. Well there were a few weird flavoured gins, but I normally buy just plain gin so didn't buy any of the weird ones.

But...... I managed to buy a 12 pack of tissues in a pound shop (2 packets of 12 left - I got second last pack) and I got a kitchen cleaning spray - £2 for a Flash cleaning spray (a new fragrance - French soap or something ). Usually those sprays are a pound only.
That was my loot from today.

What I couldn't get was:
Pesto sauce (Lidl)
UHT milk (it's what I usually buy, as I live alone so wouldn't consume enough fresh milk to justify buying it) - Lidl
Paracetamol (2 x pound shops and Lidl)
Vit C (2 x pound shops and Lidl)
Vicks First Defence (Boots)
Pistacchio nuts (Lidl)
Toilet paper (anywhere)
An online delivery slot from any shop

I'm in North East London and went to Walthamstow.
Lidl was more empty of produce than it was yesterday. I think they haven't been re-stocking AT ALL. It's just getting progressively emptier.

I'm going to get up and go to Lidl first thing in the morning in search of the elusive toilet roll. Not sure what else to do.

Will also try two Tesco Express that would be on my way home if no luck in Lidl.

A 9 pack of toilet paper in Aldi. The last of four left on a huge platform. Four people stopped me in store and either asked 'where did you get the loo roll from' and 'do you actually need it...?'

Pentium85 · 18/03/2020 22:51

Loo roll is on amazon. 10 rolls for £5 including delivery.

Craftycorvid · 18/03/2020 22:52

All stocked up on rice and lentils. Ended up with a bizarrely hipster haul in our local Sainsburys on Sunday: posh coffee and spelt flour (the only bread flour left). The apocalypse shall be mostly sourdough!

turdtimelucky · 18/03/2020 22:52

Imagine getting accosted for having loo roll! Next there'll be muggings!

I suppose I could cut up cloth and use that and re-wash. What do you do with them waiting to be washed? A basin with detergent or something and then do a hot wash every second day or something?

Enjoy.

@turdtimelucky just keep in a wet bag or plastic bag, do a pre-wash cycle with detergent and then wash on 60. Google 'family cloth' as that is what the hippies call it. Actually much more cleansing than toilet paper. And more eco friendly.

Popuppippa · 18/03/2020 22:55

24 flannels from Amazon. I broke the news to my teens that when our very limited supply of toilet rolls runs out that 'family cloth' is the way we're going Grin. It will be just like when they were babies not.

They are being a great deal more economical now...

Lightsabre · 18/03/2020 22:55

Pretty much everything at Aldi at 8am including loo rolls, but by the time I left, the queues were huge. DH went on the way home from work and there was no fruit, veg, meat, fish, pasta, bread, milk, eggs, loo rolls etc and very little frozen stuff. Cashier said every day by 10am the shops are stripped.

TheGreatWave · 18/03/2020 22:55

Flour - both self raising and plain. Different shops there. Lidl only had the SR, there was another woman picking up 2 bags (there was plenty) with an air of pure joy, we had a giggle about having to go to different shops to get the flour.

H1978 · 18/03/2020 22:55

Re toilet roll I always bulk buy from groupon and I got a delivery today which was my usual 3 monthly one took a little longer to come than normal but only by a few days

Oysterbabe · 18/03/2020 22:56

I went to Lidl at about 9:30pm, half hour before closing.

They had no tinned food, no pasta/rice/noodles/couscous, no meat except steak, no jarred food except pickled cabbage, no bread products, no frozen food except desserts, no milk, no nappies, no squash. Few vegetables except red peppers and cucumber.

They did have lots of chilled things like cheese, yoghurt, ham, bacon, sausages, falafel, pies. Lots of sweets, chocolate and biscuits. A fair amount of crisps.

TheGreatWave · 18/03/2020 22:57

Someone at work said they were going to pop to Aldi before work as it opened, gave up as there was already 20 people queuing outside.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 18/03/2020 22:58

4-pack of these from Aldi. They had been taken off a stockpiler who tried to buy too much. I don't normally drink but couldn't resist cracking one open when I got home. It's lovely. It's been a bit of an emotional day. I've spent the last 6 months in my new job (my 1st job in 16 years) in an FE college an LSA. We shut the doors to students today and I'm now off. Luckily being paid. I'm just going to miss the students so much. I've spent all this time building a relationship and now they've been pushed out of their safe nest way too early.

Today I bought a lamb joint, a pork joint some lean beef strips, 2 tins of tomatoes, 2 of kidney beans and some bleach
I could have bought a 4 pack of toilet roll but didn’t as have enough
I also bought lots of single items like a light bulb and batteries which weren’t low on stock and were main reason. I went shopping!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/03/2020 22:59

We went to Lidl, and Tesco. Got:

Mixed peppers
Butternut squash
Sweet potato
Tomatoes
Bacon
Bread
Various cheeses
2 x quiche
Gnocchi
Shortbread biscuits
Tortilla wraps
Tub of spread - fake butter stuff
Bunch of flowers

Did not get:

Toilet roll

Going to pick up some wine tomorrow in case the lockdown rumours are true.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 18/03/2020 23:01

I think one of the more positive things that has come out of this is that it might make people "shop locally" more.
The big supermarkets are practically stripped bare by idiot panic buyers pulling stuff off the shelves as soon as it gets delivered, but I've found the local shops still have plenty.
Freshly made bread at the local bakers for example that I got this morning and there's plenty of loo roll in the local corner shop.

BikeRunSki · 18/03/2020 23:01

Aldi, 4pm - pasta and loo roll.
No uncooked rice or hand gel though.

No rice in Co-op or Asda either.

Pipandmum · 18/03/2020 23:01

Only things I couldn't get was wholewheat pasta and john west tuna. My son eats them every day, so I got a couple bags buckwheat pasta for him to try.
Most everything else was in stock if you weren't picky about the brand. Milk a bit low in big shops but it's produced locally here and the farm has said they'll never run out! Plenty of bread and in store baked goods and most fruits and veg. Even toilet roll! Medicines like paracetamol are in short supply. And rabbit hay...
I order online from tesco and other than having to order a couple weeks ahead now most things seem available. They are constantly restocking and surely the panic buyers will have bought enough at some point.

MyDcAreMarvel · 18/03/2020 23:04

Costco loads of nappies no limits and aptimal milk, boxes of 6 x 300ml hand sanitiser ( that people are then flogging for £27 per bottle on eBay!) and giant multipacks of toilet roll but they go within the hour limited to a pack each.
No chicken breast, pasta or large bags of rice.

MyDcAreMarvel · 18/03/2020 23:05

No big uht milk either but had the little ones for tea coffee you get in hotels.

Heismyopendoor · 18/03/2020 23:10

Dh went to a few different shops today, he got bacon, potatoes, spam (😱), romaine, avocados, bananas, tinned coconut milk. He couldn’t get onions or garlic, pasatta, or bread.

Pic of our local Lidl.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 18/03/2020 23:17

Needed fresh veg, in particular carrots and onions, but none in my local Sainsbury or Aldi, but managed to get spring greens, 2 leeks, 2 courgettes, Brussels sprouts, plus toothpaste, bottle of Roses lime cordial and two bunches of tulips. Then went to my local farm shop and got carrots, potatoes, aubergine, 2 turnips plus sausages, lamb chops and cheese. The veg at the farm shop is so lovely and fresh that I've decided I'm going to use them for all my veg and fruit from now on. I also returned a big box of soap powder that I bought last week as it was all I good get, but have since managed to get a box of my preferred soap powder so returned the first one.

stickerqueen · 18/03/2020 23:19

2 packs of pasta, got 2 because dd did need a packet for food tech next week.
2 pack loo roll
1 big milk

got these things in a corner shop tesco and sainsburys had none

Flymetothetoon · 18/03/2020 23:25

I got bread, milk, gravy granules, ketchup, baby wipes, kitchen roll and garlic powder (really wanted fresh or frozen)

Only thing I couldn't get was liquid soap but they did have Dove bar soap and plenty of loo roll and tissues.

This was in my local convenience store not a big supermarket which have been plagued by locusts
