So who thinks that’s the kids at home for 6 months?

As usual NS giving people and much more direct and informative response as to the length of school closures and in that at least giving people worst case scenario...

BOJO waffled through without really saying much of everything and no-one has a fuck what’s going on...fucking great leadership skills there!! 😬🤬

Reading between the two when do you think schools will be closed until?

I'd say until May at least. Scottish schools break up in June so perhaps that's why it's unlikely they'll reopen.

I force myself to watch the shambles every day, today's was particularly incoherent.

Avtually, if the virus is due to hit its peak in April, May, June then there's not much point reopening. They've already said exams are cancelled.

I don't know, they are having cluster outbreaks in China. They will have to release us in pockets until it becomes a weaker virus or they find a vaccine. I am only hoping for a scorching summer to kill it off.

I’m gutted. Been battling with our local authority since July to get our twins into a specialist school after Easter which they desperately need. Our main argument for the right school for them was that the school the LA want to name couldn’t take them until September. We were so close to getting it all signed off and now this

Obviously the health of everyone is more important, however.

Sorry to hear that SinkGirl.

They’ll already said they’re expecting them to be closed until summer. Hopefully they’ll be able to reopen after the summer holidays.

No idea how long it'll last but the nursery we use has just emailed to say since the government haven't insisted, they will be open for the foreseeable future and reminds children to have washed hands Hmm the cynic in me feels this is just to justify full fees as most are unlikely to take their children in.

Thanks Halcyon & Down - I’m trying to focus on the positives, we are all well and not in the most vulnerable groups and we can survive financially so we are in a better position than many which I’m so grateful for. But I must admit to feeling pretty pissed off at the timing!

Just seen that children with EHCPs should still be able to access schools, which is a slight glimmer of hope. Will see if that helps us.

The NI first minister has said 16 weeks so that's June when NI schools break up. No one here expecting them back until September.

How old is he @DownstairsMixUp? I hope the LA crack on with panels etc by virtual means, our decision was meant to happen last Thursday but they’ve cancelled all meetings and are now ignoring emails.

Will there be a need for school holidays over the summer if schools are closed from now onwards?

halcyondays · 18/03/2020 18:57

Yes, because teachers are working and pupils will work at home to do work set on Google Classroom etc. Some schools will open for certain children, probably.

They should have been closed this week.
Although the kids don’t seem to show symptoms, the 30 kids in a class have two parents each who presumably are working, so what’s the chance of all the teachers catching it? Impossible not to catch it!

Hong Kong have only had a few more infections that we have had deaths, because they closed everything straight away.
Our Government seems to have the policy of waiting and seeing what happens, then it’s too late.
