As usual NS giving people and much more direct and informative response as to the length of school closures and in that at least giving people worst case scenario...

BOJO waffled through without really saying much of everything and no-one has a fuck what’s going on...fucking great leadership skills there!! 😬🤬

Reading between the two when do you think schools will be closed until?

@DieCryHate all early years settings should be closing as well as schools, it is children of NHS staff and those on EHCPs that need access only. As far as I understand it anyway.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/03/2020 19:01

I think a lot of things will hang on the reliability of the antibody test and then they can make more informed decisions but I do think September is in my mind as the earliest likely date.

Drivemybluecar · 18/03/2020 19:01

What about exam kids. My son is doing his gcse. If they go back say may half term. If they are not doing their exams there is no point in them going back ?

mum2jakie · 18/03/2020 19:03

Exams are cancelled too

hoxtonbabe · 18/03/2020 19:11

My son Y7 is pissed. He/we were fine with after Easter but if not back until September he is absolutely livid as he will be bored senseless even though the school has lessons planed as normal but online it’s the fact he is stuck in the house

DieCryHate · 18/03/2020 19:11

@silver1977 thanks, that's how I interpret it too. I'm not sure on what to do; email them back or hope there's further government intervention to make them follow the announcement. I was really surprised in the face of this they are dismissing what has been said today. No mention of key workers, just we've not been forced to shut so we're open.

SinkGirl · 18/03/2020 19:42

@Sugarfreejelly this is from the guardian but all the major papers are reporting this now

So who thinks that’s the kids at home for 6 months?
middleager · 18/03/2020 19:45

I think it'll be September.
We have a guide - Italy - as we have followed its trajectory.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 18/03/2020 19:47

@SinkGirl many special schools will remain open as their pupils all have ECHPs so they probably should still be able to go.

SomethingOnce · 18/03/2020 19:48

  1. This might have to happen.
  1. This is going to happen.
  1. This is going to happen for longer/be more extreme than we said.

And repeat Smile

SinkGirl · 18/03/2020 19:49

Thanks - just need to hope the LA actually make a decision before Easter now... this is an ideal opportunity to drag their heels further. I’ve filed an appeal though so hopefully that will put a fire under them to some extent.

Zampa · 18/03/2020 19:51

My daughter's special school closed on Tuesday as they couldn't guarantee the required staff levels due to the self isolation requirements. All the children attending have EHCPs obviously.

AlunWynsKnee · 18/03/2020 20:00

The message from dd's mainstream school is a little confusing about EHCPs. It says they're able to go to school. Does that mean we'll be fined for not sending her because she has an EHCP?

CamillaBeauchamp · 18/03/2020 20:02

I think that they will go back in September

SinkGirl · 18/03/2020 20:17

I don’t think so - I think they’re just saying schools must make provisions for those with EHCPS and others in specific groupa

Fatted · 18/03/2020 20:22

Oh FFS, not September!! I'm going to cry! Actually fucking cry!!

SouthWestmom · 18/03/2020 20:30

What needs to change in order to make normality safe again? A vaccine? A cure? It's bloody years away.

rvby · 18/03/2020 20:34

I am non UK, in a country where the outbreak has been better controlled than UK, and schools closed on Monday. They will stay closed until September.

I think it would be very unwise to anticipate schools opening before September in the UK.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 18/03/2020 20:38

I will also fucking cry. Its dd2’s last term at her primary school and she’s going to miss her last time with her friends, her Sats, her awards ceremony and her end of year party. She’s already upset.

theschoolonthehill · 18/03/2020 20:41

September if we are lucky enough to survive CV.

halcyondays · 18/03/2020 20:43

Nobody will be fined.

HavenDilemma · 19/03/2020 20:11

Any Teachers on here? I have a question... My DC is in Reception. If we don't go back until September will she be going straight into year 1 as normal? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question, I'm just worried for her. I've been given a work pack with login details for Purple Mash and I have some text books. I'm not a teacher though. She has Autism (No statement or EHCP) and I can see her struggling with going into year 1 after finishing Reception tomorrow.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 19/03/2020 20:44

@HavenDilemma they might keep her in reception for a bit longer. They did that at my dds school with a couple of children that weren’t quite ready to go up to year one.

HavenDilemma · 20/03/2020 19:57

Thank you @MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig
