Am I the only one not pleased that schools are closing?

I understand that the government consider this necessary and I know it's about saving lives, possibly mine.

But please tell me I'm not the only who feels a deep dread at us all being home? I could cry. Until the summer. How.

With one child in Year 11, another in year 13 and a dh who is a teacher I'm not glad either.

But it will happen as schools are losing students and staff right, left and centre due to self isolation. Dd's 6th form has already closed.

LochJessMonster · 18/03/2020 13:46

I’m glad Boris held off for as long as he could.
Closing schools mean parents not being able to work. It’s the start of a full lockdown.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 18/03/2020 13:47

It will be worst if/when we have a lockdown. It's going to be challenging keeping everyone happy and entertained. We think Christmas is going to be lovely but we are ready to throttle each other after 12 hours 😂

Hemlock2013 · 18/03/2020 13:48

Me too...

I feel happy for everyone able to pull their kids out, but for everyone else it makes more sense to keep going and keep the economy ticking along...

BumpkinSpiceBatty · 18/03/2020 13:48

No one is taking social distancing seriously around here. Hopefully this might make them realise the importance of it.

BriefDisaster · 18/03/2020 13:49

It was inevitable but yeah I am dreading it. Scottish schools to close from Friday now deciding whether to even bother woth the next two days.

BlackCatSleeping · 18/03/2020 13:50

Wait until all the smug mums start posting on social media about how wonderful it is that the kids are home and how today we spent hours playing card games, cooked a delicious vegan lunch, and spent hours researching about Tang Dynasties.

Seriously, it's coming!!

minipie · 18/03/2020 13:51

Yes I’m slightly dreading it. I know it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but my DC are going to be climbing the walls and fighting with each other. DC1 has SN and behaviour issues. I’m trying to work out a timetable of sorts but they listen to their teachers a lot better than they do to me!

However I’m also thinking of parents I’ve met whose children have SN and much worse behaviour issues than mine, who are violent towards and sometimes bigger than their parent. School is their only respite. This is going to be appalling and possibly dangerous for them.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 18/03/2020 13:53

I’m also dreading it. I think the way it is right now is working quite well round here - parents can pretty much choose wether or not to send them in. If you’re quarantined then it’s authorised absence. All the time my family is healthy I can continue to work (from home) and my children have a sense of normality. Once they’re off then the economy is really going to take a hit.

howsicklyarsekissy · 18/03/2020 13:53

Going to be 6 months until
They are back to school just announced

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 18/03/2020 13:54

I’m also concerned about those poor children whose only good meal a day is the one they get at school. I hope they have measures in place for thi...

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/03/2020 13:54

What will happen with children of front line workers with no childcare?

troppibambini · 18/03/2020 13:55

What have I missed this? Is it happened now?..

OldLace · 18/03/2020 13:55

Are Scottish Schools DEFO closing Friday?

English Schools?

For 6 months? (which?)

where has this been announced please?

duckduckgoosealbatross · 18/03/2020 13:56

I can't see anything about English schools closing?

Connie222 · 18/03/2020 13:57

School closures need to go hand in hand with a full lock down. Other wise the country will be full of idiots taking children on days out, cafes, soft play.

Connie222 · 18/03/2020 13:57

I can’t see anything though?

theneverendinglaundry · 18/03/2020 13:57

Is it just Wales and Scotland at the moment?

I'm also dreading it. They will lose their sense of normality, wont even be able to see friends or spend much time out and about.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 18/03/2020 13:58

Have Iissed an announcement? I thought schools were still staying open for a while and can't see anything on gov website

nodtik · 18/03/2020 13:58

Hello - still limping on at school at the moment.

Scottish and Welsh schools are now closing, we are operating on a skeleton staff and kids are getting anxious 😟 it’s not nice.

No news from exam boards about the summer exams and too much

Currently out on duty on the playground - it’s freezing 🥶 xx

xtinak · 18/03/2020 13:59

@BlackCatSleeping great point. That will add insult to injury Grin

Just personally, until my DD went to nursery I was in the deepest well of depression. That break during the day of going to work has been a lifesaver.

Not happening in Ireland. The majority of people understand how serious this is and are staying home.

backaftera2yearbreak · 18/03/2020 14:00

I’m not! Do they honestly think people are going to teach their kids at home. I have to work from home, it’s one or the other 🤷‍♀️ X

Myfanwyprice · 18/03/2020 14:00

I am dreading it, mine squabble so much, I think my most used phrase is ‘you two need to find a way to get along!’

Also fear that 14 year old ds will just want to sleep all day, going to be a chore keeping him in some sort of routine!

However, these are minor concerns, and I will support whatever advice there is to keep everyone safe.

BarbedBloom · 18/03/2020 14:00

Welsh schools closing here. I think sadly it was inevitable as they just don't have the staff. I live across the road from a nursery that closed today as all their staff are off now and the manager herself has a cough.
