Substituting powdered milk for Baby Milk Formula

Anxiouslywaitingfortheend · 17/03/2020 18:23

I can't believe what i am hearing.. people are actually buying baby formula milk as powdered milk has became unavailable to buy leaving mothers with babies (including myself) frantically trying to find formula for their little ones. How can people be so selfish? Whats the most horrendous thing youve heard due to Covid-19? Im worried, massively about not being able to feed my baby. Sad

I saw something on FB saying that, if you call the customer care number on the formula can, the company will send you formula - I don’t know if they are selling it or giving it, and if they may ask for something towards shipping costs - but this may help you.

I agree that this is one of the worst things I have heard about people’s response to COVID 19.

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 18:42

I think this is bollocks.

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 18:44

The calling the number is bollocks. Maybe a chemist could order it in for you

DIYBother · 17/03/2020 18:49

Is this actually happening or is it coronavirus apocrypha? I haven’t seen it reported in a single credible source.

Anxiouslywaitingfortheend · 17/03/2020 18:53

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius i have been close to tears. Luckily my family have went on the hunt for me and managed to get hold of some for me x

I have seen threads on here where people cant find infant formula. Might be stockpiling rather than using as ordinary milk

Anxiouslywaitingfortheend · 17/03/2020 18:54

@bemoreeverything @DIYBother its not, unfortunately. Was confirmed in my local supermarket. The milk my baby is on is hard to get hold of as it is, never mind now. I wish it was bollocks, but its not

It's a bollocks Facebook urban myth. Please don't perpetuate it. It's boring and stupid.

Anxiouslywaitingfortheend · 17/03/2020 18:56

@dementedpixie yes people are stock piling also, but in my town this has been happening. It makes me so angry people can be this horrible and selfish

OP posts:
AutumnCrow · 17/03/2020 18:56

There is infant formula for sale on actual shelves in actual shops today.

Lllot5 · 17/03/2020 18:57

I can’t see people putting formula in their tea or on their cornflakes it tastes vile.

Anxiouslywaitingfortheend · 17/03/2020 18:57

@AutumnCrow i have witnessed it happen in my town, but then again with the people who live where i live it does not suprise me

OP posts:
Cohle · 17/03/2020 18:58

I think it's far more likely that those who may need it are buying "a couple of extra tins" just in case and collectively causing shortages.

Anxiouslywaitingfortheend · 17/03/2020 18:58

@AutumnCrow none where i live, especially the one my baby is on (reflux)

slipperywhensparticus · 17/03/2020 18:59

My friend couldnt find any in her regular shop took her about three shops to get it

Anxiouslywaitingfortheend · 17/03/2020 19:00

@slipperywhensparticus i usually struggle to find my childs milk, but this is stupid, ive never actually been anxious over being able to feed her

DesLynamsMoustache · 17/03/2020 19:04

I think it's unlikely. Every formula I've smelled and tasted has been gross, I can't imagine anyone who isn't a baby wanting to drink it! But people will of course be stockpiling it. Boots had some earlier online.

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 19:08

its not, unfortunately. Was confirmed in my local supermarket. The milk my baby is on is hard to get hold of as it is, never mind now. I wish it was bollocks, but its not

What? Your supermarket confirmed what people are doing with formula? Get a grip!

It's a stupid thing doing the rounds in Facebook and nothing more.

Your supermarket may have confirmed the shortage but I'm bloody sure they don't know what a single person who bought some is doing with it.

I would rather drink black tea and coffee than put baby milk in it. Black coffee isn't that bad with sugar in it and you get used to black tea after a few cups.

How are we running out of milk anyway, we still have the same number of cows and they all get milked daily as normal, they have to be milked or they get sick.

YakkityYakYakYak · 17/03/2020 19:13

I highly doubt this is happening; formula tastes disgusting. Agree that people shouldn’t be stock piling it though, incredibly selfish.

Thoughtlessinengland · 17/03/2020 19:14

OP

Please pause. People need powdered milk that desperately that they are stockpiling £10 a tin foil tasting infant formula as a replacement for that? Seriously? And who exactly has told you that? A supermarket? They knew WHY a customer was purchasing a product? Really?

Watermelontea · 17/03/2020 19:14

@Anxiouslywaitingfortheend - If you baby is on a reflux milk and you can’t get any can you GP prescribe a thickener, like gaviscon, for now until you’re able to acquire some? We use gaviscon as it is t as harsh in DD’s stomach.

SnuggyBuggy · 17/03/2020 19:15

Wouldn't you just get longlife? Formula is pretty expensive.

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 19:16

on sale? It's illegal to put formula on sale. Or maybe not illegal but the shop will be fined.

It's FOR sale. Available.
