Busy hairdresser is infecting everyone wwyd?

I can’t believe I’m writing this but advice needed please.
I live in a very small town and have today heard something very disturbing. A local hairdresser and her children have been in regular close contact with an ill family member who has actually tested positive. I know this woman personally and she really doesn’t care, she’s just carrying on as normal. Her children are in several extra curricular clubs mixing with people from surrounding towns/villages and are still going to school. She’s also frequent pub user (different pubs) and has said (amongst other idiotic things) that the whole thing’s a load of rubbish. She takes her kids to the pub too.
Most disturbing of all though, is that she’s a very, very busy hairdresser who deals mostly with the elderly. She’s her own boss so complaining isn’t an option. Her oldest ds was actually off school today with a cough and I personally witnessed him going in to her salon as well as a local shop. I presume he was in there all day but I don’t know this for a fact.
I’m not exaggerating when I say her clients are mostly elderly, I’d say it’s about 80%.
What on earth do I do with this knowledge? Bury my head and ignore?

Yes of course I have. Do you think she should just carry on as normal then? Breathing her germs all over the most vulnerable in our society in her line of work. Keeping her SYMPTOMATIC ds off school today but letting him wander the town, coughing and breathing his germs everywhere too? INCLUDING HER SALON!!! He’s a teenager btw and is frequently left home alone.
As I’ve already said, she thinks the whole thing is a load of rubbish and is just the flu!!!

If the hairdresser posted asking if it was okay for her to carry on working with the elderly after being in contact with someone who tested positive and whilst her son had a cough, she’d get flamed!

minipie · 17/03/2020 17:47

She following the guidance, she’s working until she or her immediate family because symptomatic.

No she’s not. Her son has a cough so she should be self isolating for 14 days.

NoBoojustNo · 17/03/2020 17:48

And just reading two comments on here demonstrates why we are going to be in trouble.

Some posters have clearly not read or heard what the latest guidelines are.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Rachie1973 · 17/03/2020 17:49

Why are the elderly going there though? Why are they not following the advice too?

tillytoodles1 · 17/03/2020 17:51

The main problem is that people are going to carry on working because they're worried about how to pay bills and buy food if they don't work.

Riddikulusness · 17/03/2020 17:53

PeterPanGoesWrong
Ffs where in my post have I said that I don’t really know her? And where have I said that I heard it on the grapevine?
All I said is that I heard it today! I’m trying to be discreet/vague and not out me or her!!!
Why do people just interpret words to hear what they want to?!

What @whatnow40 said.

Thank you WhatNow40
I think I may have to.
I wanted advice but seen to be getting abuse. We’re all going to hell in a handcart!

"I wanted advice but seen to be getting abuse. We’re all going to hell in a handcart!"

Advice about WHAT though? Confronting her? Phoning the police? Badmouthing her on social media?

LINABE · 17/03/2020 18:08

You have a DUTY to do something about this IMMEDIATELY. FOR THE SAKE OF THE ELDERLY. PLEASE DO IT ASAP.

MaxNormal · 17/03/2020 18:10

You absolutely need to report this. This is how huge clusters of infecton are created, one infectious person in a position where they infect dozens or hundreds. The fact that it's mostly vulnerable elderly people is even worse.
Her business is not more important than their lives, and she's clearly massively cavalier about their safety and well being.

Riddikulusness · 17/03/2020 18:12

I asked what I should do. I have no control over other people’s answers. If anything awful happens I’ll be asked if I knew and probably be asked why I didn’t step in.

GinPin2 · 17/03/2020 18:15

Please report her. She is gambling with the lives of the elderly and that is not fair. My mum is 90. I would hate for anyone to do this to her.

Riddikulusness · 17/03/2020 18:19

Thank you everyone. I’m going to report. I had no idea how to go about this so this has proved helpful.

????? Who is going to "ask" you anything?

ElliePhillips · 17/03/2020 18:23

OP you are right to be concerned. Is there a local council health and safety office you can contact anonymously?

Also, none of her elderly clients should be going to a hairdresser at all right now because they are in the high risk group.

Having nice hair is really NOT an essential thing right now. Mumsnetters please explain this to your elderly Mums and Grans - it could save their lives.

Amboseli · 17/03/2020 18:24

I would report her to local health authority, and possibly police

Riddikulusness · 17/03/2020 18:29

Yes I’m going to answer every single question you throw at me, in detail. I’ll tell you my name and address too if you like...

OP posts:
NoMoreDickheads · 17/03/2020 18:30

Report her to wherever we're supposed to report OP. You could call the police and ask their advice. She's putting people at risk of death.

Ilovemypantry · 17/03/2020 18:32

OP it’s stupid people like the woman you have described that are fuelling this pandemic. Why are so many people ignoring the advice?

On the other hand, the elderly people shouldn’t be going out to the hairdressers so they are not heeding the advice either.
I would definitely report the woman though, especially if her son is showing symptoms.

NanSlayer · 17/03/2020 18:32

Sounds about right, there are some complete tools out there, exactly the reason I'm taking extra precautions for the time being.

Sonichu · 17/03/2020 18:36

"Sonichu

Don't post a thread on a public forum if you don't want anyone to ask you questions about it.

Or does that mean you don't actually have an answer?

AnyFucker · 17/03/2020 18:40

Well, that is certainly a full bingo card of stuff she shouldn't be doing

Quite unbelievable
