What is there loads of at your local shop?

Lighthearted to try to distract from all the uncertainty.

I went to my local supermarket today and theres plenty of empty shelves but I'm a bit fascinated by what's left - spelt pasta, oat milk, frozen brussel sprouts and Linda McCartney Veggie frozen bits galore, but no other frozen veg or quorn.

There are also way too many easter eggs for the shelves and plenty of mothers day gifts left. Beer seems to be a bit up and down depending on the brand.

What have your local population rejected?

Loads of olives and tinned beans in my Lidl!

I got the last pack of baby wipes and last tray of eggs.

There were no packs of fresh meat or cartons of milk though.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/03/2020 22:24

There's loads of tinned fruit, custard in all forms, jelly, rice pudding etc.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/03/2020 22:25

Loads of herbal teas, no 'traditional' tea.

R2221 · 16/03/2020 22:26

There were loads of people in mine

Iwalkinmyclothing · 16/03/2020 22:30

All the 'free from' shelves have been full in every supermarket I've been in over the past week.

LennyPugGoat · 16/03/2020 22:31

I’d love tinned fruit, custard and herbal tea. None around here.

I popped in to a store today and met with an elderly couple looking for paracetamol, I bent down to the lowest shelf and retrieved a few boxes for them.

Whilst I paid for my items for dinner I watched a couple buy 20+ packs of napkins. I’m hoping they have a last chance opp of a family gathering and equally hoping they don’t flush it down the toilet.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/03/2020 22:33

Yes to Easter Eggs! And big bouquets ( I bought £1 daffs).
And frozen Brussels were the only frozen veg, other than potato products.

meow1989 · 16/03/2020 22:34

Yes on tinned fruit but no tinned veg left. Lots of cereal too.

The meat shelves had been picked clean as if a flock of vultures had recently passed through but the lone vegan chiller on the end only had about ten packets missing from otherwise full shelves! (I was quite pleased given that we are vegetarian).

Growingboys · 16/03/2020 22:43

Indian cooking stuff - no one seems to want to panic buy jarred korma sauces and the like.

Can't say I blame them.

Also this revoltingly over processed Deliciously Ella style protein bars. Quite understandable

fairydustandpixies · 16/03/2020 22:43

Baked beans, tinned spaghetti, tinned tomatoes, tinned meatballs, hot dog sausages, curry sauces, rice, soup, tuna, toilet rolls (yes - they had a 'only 2 per customer label on the pallet but there were dozens of 9 and 18 packs!) and cake baking ingredients - at 4.30pm this afternoon! Everything really. But no pasta! This was at B&M.

Pipandmum · 16/03/2020 22:44

Most shelves well stocked except: no pasta at Sainsbury's but alot at Tesco; no John West tuna at Tesco but actually on sale at Sainsbury's; Tesco own brand soup running low but plenty of Campbell's and Heinz; loads of fresh fruit and veg and bread etc etc. Overheard a guy saying there was no custard in Tesco. Plenty of ibuprofen and lemsip but low on plain paracetamol.

OhMUMaaa · 16/03/2020 22:47

All tinned veg gone except for peas - there were loads of cans of peas!

Loads and loads of booze. More than usual. Random extra displays of Prosecco and 2-for-£10 wine deals.

Loads of fresh fruit, veg and flowers. Loads of readymeals. Plenty of bread. Plenty of fish and meat...except for chicken (cleaned out completely).

Pasta, rice, eggs, flour, loo roll, baby wipes, nappies, cleaning products, soap, hand wash...all cleared out. Hasn’t been any when I’ve been in for over a week.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 16/03/2020 22:48

Our corner shop has everything, from nappies to calpol to loo roll. Aldi and Tesco, not so much.

MeanwhileAtNumber98 · 16/03/2020 22:48

Toilet paper!!! I kid you not, our local shop is rammed with it. Local Tesco, asda, sainsburys and morrisons have absolutely none.

QuickGetTheEggplants · 16/03/2020 22:50

Bar soap, FFS!

PickAChew · 16/03/2020 22:50

Pretty much everything but bog roll, hand wash and paracetamol, but the chemist has plenty of that.

WTFdidwedo · 16/03/2020 22:53

Ours are mostly fine until about 4pm onwards when it all starts depleting. But in the frozen veg department we only had soya beans left and in the meat shelves we only had pork loins. Also no bananas but plenty of other fruit.

Whitelisbon · 16/03/2020 22:53

Iceland tonight had nothing - not a single frozen chip in the entire place, and I managed to grab the last packet of chicken nuggets. Loads of free from (luckily for ds1!)
Home bargains next door was pretty much fully stocked, although the fridges were looking sparse.
I managed to get enough to tide us over a week or so, not the stuff we normally eat, and theres far more junk food than I'd like, but it's better than nothing.
Local shop has shitloads of toilet roll, painkillers, etc.

user127819 · 16/03/2020 22:53

Sardines. Boxes and boxes of them.

ConcentricCircles · 16/03/2020 22:54

Toilet rolls a-plenty here too -so much so that people were just walking past ignoring them!

Exochord · 16/03/2020 22:55

Loads of fresh stuff that won’t keep. If you’re able to shop regularly you’ll be fine. Of course nobody wants to have to go to a contagious supermarket in a couple of weeks time so they’ve snaffled all the tins.

Titsywoo · 16/03/2020 22:55

Booze, ready meals, custard, jelly, fruit and veg (fresh), vegan/veggie food
