What is there loads of at your local shop?

Lighthearted to try to distract from all the uncertainty.

I went to my local supermarket today and theres plenty of empty shelves but I'm a bit fascinated by what's left - spelt pasta, oat milk, frozen brussel sprouts and Linda McCartney Veggie frozen bits galore, but no other frozen veg or quorn.

There are also way too many easter eggs for the shelves and plenty of mothers day gifts left. Beer seems to be a bit up and down depending on the brand.

What have your local population rejected?

I also went into my local Cook today and was surprised people hadn't bought more from there. I guess lack of room in freezers and the higher prices. I assume there will be a flood of people buying chest freezers now?

The alcohol shelves seemed to be as well planished as usual. And the Free From aisle. Given how much there was left it’s a miracle they ever shift any of it.

ComtesseDeSpair · 16/03/2020 23:25

My local giant Tesco was all out of frozen veg except for carrots, peas and broccoli, of which there were loads. Also loads of those frozen portions of pre-cooked rice. Not an egg to be seen in the place. Gargantuan quantities of cheese, though. All out of baked beans and tinned tomatoes but a gazillion hot cross buns. Most odd.

ShiftyOwl · 16/03/2020 23:27

Local shop, I don’t have one. My nearest local shops are Tesco, Lidl, Waitrose. All within 50 metres of one another.
And they are all 6 miles from me.

JunoJigglewick · 16/03/2020 23:30

Vegan food
Fancy bread
Oat and almond milk
Biscuits
Flavoured tea and coffee
Expensive cleaning products
Booze

Matildathehun77 · 16/03/2020 23:30

I'm stocking up using several little corner shops at the moment as they seem much less affected than the supermarkets.

Things there are plenty of.... pot noodles, chocolate, pre packaged sandwiches, crisps, biscuits and alcohol.
Basically if you're happy to live off crap for the lockdown then the world's your oyster!

Nettleskeins · 16/03/2020 23:36

Our tesco express had everything except oat milk., long life milk passata flour and loo rolls, tissues. But really loads of other foods, and storecupboard foods too.no pasta except chinese noodles. Corner shop had loo rolls and pasta. Morrisons and aldi had dire queues though. But there are lots of lebanese and polish grocers with everything you could wish for. London. I dont.think there is problem with supplies,

fannyanney · 16/03/2020 23:37

There were tonnes of eggs from caged hens in my local aldi. You couldn't pay me to use them!

TheGreatWave · 16/03/2020 23:38

Toilet paper!!! I kid you not, our local shop is rammed with it. Local Tesco, asda, sainsburys and morrisons have absolutely none.

Same here and eggs .

Tonight plenty of frozen spinach and frozen peas. I was wandering a bit aimlessly though, and ended up forgetting what I actually went for. (Had a headache)

Onceuponatimethen · 16/03/2020 23:41

Ready meals, alcohol, crisps, sweets

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/03/2020 23:45

Why are people buying loads of eggs? They aren't long life?

TheGreatWave · 16/03/2020 23:47

Maybe planning on a GB Bake Off with all the flour and sugar they are also buying.

Zoey92 · 16/03/2020 23:49

NO eggs
Tinned tomatoes
Pasta
Cooking oils
Mayo/salad creams
Potatoes
Pastry
Frozen chips
Any form of fresh meat

But plenty
Beans
Milk, bread, butter
Tea/coffee

That was in my local ASDA but i had been told Aldi was nuch better to go to.
My little local shops have rationed so i do think they are coping better.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/03/2020 23:50

Minestrone soup.

Virtually all the rest of the soup shelves are empty. Doesn’t look like anyone’s taken a single tin of minestrone.

Coucous. - apparently no one likes kes that either. Pasta and rice shelves cleared out.

Gingerkittykat · 16/03/2020 23:54

The handwash shelf was empty except the Bayliss and Harding stuff!

Kitchen roll, shelves full of it next to the empty toilet roll.

Absentwomen · 16/03/2020 23:55

Farmfoods.

Has everything. Although they'd run out of dental chews for the dog. Disappointed.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/03/2020 23:55

Poor Minestrone soup!
I've not been to a supermarket, I order online so it'll be interesting to see what Asda turns up with on Wednesday.

CoronaIsComing · 16/03/2020 23:56

A bit boring but ALDI near DS’s dance class had everything but toilet roll and semi-skimmed milk this evening (and only a small amount of full fat milk).

TheSpottedZebra · 17/03/2020 00:03

Eggs last for AGES -way longer than the very cautious use-by date. i got eggs.

But I didn't even look for bananas.ive bought bananas at least weekly for decades, and I somehow forgot to even look for them today. Too busy hunting loo roll and paracetamol Sad

TeaAndDarkToast · 17/03/2020 00:20

Easter eggs.

UYScuti · 17/03/2020 01:00

I was very surprised to see that all the bread-making flour had gone in mine, but pleased t o say there was plenty of lemon curd 😊

Onceuponatimethen · 17/03/2020 22:56

I wanted cous cous - sold out on Ocado

And my dp loves minestrone

I should have been in the cous cous and minestrone shop!!

Theyrecomingtotakemeawayhaha · 17/03/2020 23:10

Our Tesco had obviously had big deliveries of something's.There was actually toilet roll.
But mainly the filled shelves were not staples.
They'd had a flour delivery but only 2 bags of self raising left when we arrived, left it as I want bread four.
No bread except for a few flat breads, little milk, not much meat,a bit of bacon and some sausages.
No garlic!!
Still no beans, some tinned tomatoes but th£1.50 a tin organic ones .
No bags of rice but shelves of different variety microwave pouch ones.
Fresh and frozen veg raided. The fresh will hopefully fill soon and there was plenty of fruit left.
No panty liners,I will be using these until I get my now delayed gynae surgery.
So a bit grim but so many shoppers smiling as they all had toilet tissue and people just seemed to be taking one pack each.

UYScuti · 17/03/2020 23:38

Tonight my Tesco was well stocked with fruit and veg but no bread no toilet roll or tissues or kitchen roll, very little tinned stuff, no dried pasta no rice, I was able to get some bread making flour but it wasn't my preferred brand
the mood was calm though, everyone seemed ok and I didn't see anyone making off with large amounts of anything

Jobseeker19 · 17/03/2020 23:44

Coffee, crisps, pickles and spices.
