Where does it say severe asthma?

I have asthma but I’m really bad at taking my inhalers, sometimes go months without using them.
I will start taking them again now. I’m really worried.

So do I self isolate for 12 weeks?

On another post someone posted the following which includes asthmatics in the isolation group but severe asthmatics will be contacted by their GP for additional advice.

Tollyfeeder, if you manage for months at a time without your inhalers, you’re unlikely to be severely asthmatic. If DF didn’t take his for a day, he’d be in intensive care or dead.

I'm confused whether I'll be classified in the serious bracket but I'm sure I'll find out. I think I'm going to get some milk tomorrow otherwise I'm pretty stocked up.

OP can you get the title of your thread changed? It is social distancing and not isolation at this stage

No, they’re only contacting people who need to go even beyond the advice for elderly and vulnerable people.

Just as a heads up - I’m a GP and this was the first I’d heard about the nhs making active contact - and it’s supposed to be led by GPs! 🤦‍♀️

From what I've read diabetics have a death rate way above even elderly people so I am confused by this advice.

I have a routine GP appointment booked on Friday and if it is not cancelled I will ask for more guidance.

Does anyone know what the definition of 'Severe asthma' is more specifically than hospital admission or use of steroid tablets? My asthma is usually well managed but around a year ago I had a bad spell which required a course of steroid tablets, would that put me in the high risk category?

I've had a medical friend (NOT a virus expert though!) read through the guidance links above with me and her reading was the same as mine and as that of noblegiraffe: all asthmatics who currently get a flu jab, and every adult who currently gets a flu jab, should assume they are included in the group who should plan for 12 weeks social isolation (as far as is possible). If you are severely asthmatic, the NHS will contact you to discuss further plans just as they will with those who have other very serious health conditions. In fairness this is also what the press conference said, albeit in rather vague and woolly terms...

My DH is a T1 diabetic GP and has no idea wtf is going on... currently we’re all self isolating as he and DD1 had mild symptoms, partly we suspect because of patients last week who lied about not having symptoms then came into his surgery and coughed everywhere.

I'm gonna carry on isolating anyway. I have multiple rare illnesses, I doubt the government have researched how CV affects them specifically.

I'll be interested to see what happens. I had my first prescription for steroid tablets in a good few years before Christmas, but never actually took them as they were prescribed in case I got worse again (in fairness, probably should've been taking them the week before). I'm also pregnant which suddenly seems to be a risk group. Not quite sure what to be planning for...

Plus I'm fat. And I'm gonna guess that when they put those lists together, they didn't consider how multiple illnesses would compound your odds of severity/fatality. As they haven't won any competence medals for their maths so far...!!

Argh it's clear as mud isn't it. Everyone seems to be interpreting it differently. I'm: pregnant (high risk pregnancy for a number of reasons) asthmatic, anaemic and have autoimmune thyroid dysfunction. Not sure it's clear that any of these individually means I should stay home for 12 weeks, but feel that collectively it means maybe I should?!?

I want to know this too. I had steroids of the tablet kind around three years ago. I tend to need them every few years when I get a bad cold and my preventative inhaler is a steroid one (red - symbicort). I also have a stronger, purple one I use when I have a cold because the blue and red ones don't work when I have a cold.

Do I need to prepare for working from home for 12 weeks? Does that mean my school aged child self-isolates with me?
