As per this NHS link

For the confused asthmatics (myself included) it says severe asthma only

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Do you think that includes COPD? I wish they'd listed the other serious health conditions!

MaderiaCycle · 16/03/2020 22:42

COPD I would think almost definitely

NettleTea · 16/03/2020 22:46

my daughter has cystic fibrosis. And asthma. And diabetes. And a hole in her heart. Sad

Iwalkinmyclothing · 16/03/2020 23:00

Thanks Maderia

Some definitions I've read day that severe asthma is that which cannot be controlled just with a prevented and a reliever inhaler. And mentions steroids.

I'm.a grey area. Mine cannot be controlled by just my inhalers and I need montelukast to stay wheeze free. But it's not a steroid..
And I had a lot of steroids just before christmas when a chest infection wouldn't clear.

doneaflit · 16/03/2020 23:26

I'd like to know about asthma too! My son's asthma is well controlled at the moment, but that's with a preventer and montelukast. He's been hospitalised several times with viral wheeze and had steroid tablets following those episodes. I seem to get more confused every time the govt issues new guidance.

confusedandtired99 · 16/03/2020 23:28

What about hypertension? I thought that was one of the risk factors 🤷‍♀️

Our GP called today to inform us about my daughter and to prepare her to 'be a hermit for a FEW MONTHS'
he gave us all the drugs we could ever need

Petiolaris · 20/03/2020 00:07

I greatly doubt the NHS will contact me. They’ve never given a crap before. I was diagnosed for ten years before I discovered I was supposed to have an annual checkup - a new GP checked my record and freaked out about the lack of follow up. I still have to fight for my checkups by asking repeatedly and asking a different GP if the first one says no. I can’t see them bothering to call me tbh.

DD has almost undetectable asthma, until she catches a virus then she is so I'll - antibiotics and steroids at the first sign of a cold!

DH has chronic lung disease (bronchiectasis) and reacts the same way: which is why they treat DD's colds so aggressively to prevent any future lung damage

We are already self isolating
