Isolation - 7 or 14 days?

My DD had a fever yesterday, only lasted 12 hours. We were isolating her as per the advice at the time which was to keep her at home for 7 days. Now that advice has changed to isolate everyone in the house for 14 days. Does this include us? Or not as she has no fever today?

I'd say 14 days for all of you but what I don't understand is are they still saying for people to self isolate within their own homes for the initial 7 days?

Yes 14 days due to the incubation period and being not a lone household.

It was 14 days which was the worldwide consensus but for some reason, our ridiculous government changed it to 7 days at the end of las week. It appears to be back to 14 days.

@thaegumathteth you self isolate within the home for the full 14 days unless you live alone then it’s 7.

@MyDcAreMarvel yes I know it's 14 days if anyone in the house has it but what I mean is - up until today say I'd got a cough or a temp - is basically have been separated from my family within my own house for 7 days. Do we still do that or do we all just stay together in the house and for 14 days.

Cannot imagine now having kids in house for 14 days as DH has a cough for 5 days. Seems more like mild flu. Hasn't been in contact with anyone who it or has travelled

I’ve been self isolating until weds which will be 7 days, now it’s been changed to 14days but my boss just text me saying see you weds as agreed

1 person has symptoms- whole household isolates for 14 days.

The first affected person will be the 7 day as initially stated.

The extra 7 days for everyone is to allow for the incubation period and those who may carry but be symptom free.

What isn't clear is if after 7 days the person who first contracted it can go out again?

Ok, so if I understand this right, those of us doing the 7 day isolation (which is basically everyone isolating since last Thursday) have just had it extended, and to the whole household?

Interested in this too. Self isolating since Thursday .

So the initial person with symptoms would still stay in their room for 7 days for example and not be in contact with the rest of their household?

With the new guidence do i need to do another 7 days or does my family now need to do 7 days?

14 days it is then. 2 weeks stuck inside with 2 kids will be fun... As long as it keeps others safe though. MIL & SIL are high risk.
Don't think DH's boss will be happy, his work are being quite difficult!

i'm finding this confusing too.... We 3 have been isolating since Thursday as DD was very ill at the end of last week....had every Covid symptom going. As she is 4 she couldn't be isolated to one room so all of us have been in.
Do we know isolate for 14 days? so far DH and I are not showing any symptoms and I would have thought we would have had them starting by now?

i have a job interview on thursday - at school - I emailed today to explain our situation but they are still happy for me to attend as we have no symptoms!

why is the advice so blimming unclear!!!!

I guess it can be interpreted in two ways- either new cases from now follow the 14days rule and existing cases continue with the rest of the 7days OR 14 days for everyone including those already in insulation. It seems my boss expects me back so I’ll be back after 7days

7 days for the person with symptoms (new cough or fever) counting from the onset of symptoms. Regardless of when or whether the symptoms go away.

14 days for others in the family who haven’t got symptoms, counting from the same time.

The crazy thing is though that you could do it multiple times. One member of family has a temperature and you all stay at home for 14 days. A month later someone else gays a cough and temp... do you all do another 14 days as you won't know which illness, if either, is Coronavirus?

and this is why the whole thing is such a mess, so much chaning of minds and contradictory infromation being given out, it is no wonder people cant follow it properly. At work we had someone off all last week as the start of 14 days isolation due to being in contact with a confirmed case. The guidance changed to only isolate of you yourself had symptoms and only for 7 days, so they are coming back tomorrow...but now the guidance has changed again.
Its actually just insane.

and yes to the multiple times thing. Ive got 6 dc. DH is a teacher. potentially any one of them can have a cough and or temp at any time. I could potentially be isolating for weeks on end. But I work as a clinician in the NHS so really I kind of need to be at work......

and really, the main problem is that they just cant test enough people. If testing was more widely available of lot of this stupid guess work could be avoided.

Where I am it’s isolate yourself if you have anything from a wide range of symptoms (not just cough or temp) but ONLY until clear of symptoms. Which makes no sense...

DS has had some symptoms and has been isolating, we're on day 7 tomorrow. I've not been out as have been at home looking after him and trying to be cautious.

But DD has been going to school. Do I now need to isolate her? Even though she's been in school for the last week?

I hoping this becomes clearer by tomorrow!

Its so confusing. I started self isolation yesterday, so do I now go for two weeks? Or is it just my partner?
