Got a really sore throat that's been getting progressively worse. Quite concerned it's 'The Virus'!
Anyone else that's Ill? How are you coping?

OP posts:
Tommorrowsanewday · 15/03/2020 16:47

OP, my DH who, a week after he returned from Italy got a phone call from a GP telling him he was sitting within distance of someone who had tested positive.
DH had a sore throat and bad headache. He rang 111 who said they weren’t the symptoms and go about his usual business and they’d get someone to ring back. Waited, no call.
Next day he rang back again. Same story. By this time both me and DS had developed a mildly sore throat.
Next day he sent an email with all our symptoms, virtually begging to be tested.
Finally someone contacted him to say unless he ended up in hospital with breathing problems they weren’t testing.
He had been wfh since coming back from Italy so as not to pass on whatever it was to work colleagues.
So good luck.

@Lockheart

I felt very nauseous and had that kind of intestinal upset that usually comes before diarrhoea. I was never actually sick though, and didn't have diarrhoea. But wanted to stay very close to the bathroom!

TheoriginalLEM Someone in what I can only describe as a hazmat suit came to my house, swabbed, and left. My GP phoned with the results a couple of days later, by which time I'd already started feeling better. Don't know if there was hand-waving Grin

I'd already been told to self-isolate by 111, so they told me to continue. I'm still in isolation until Wednesday. I'm very glad I hadn't popped round to see my mum as planned the evening I started feeling a bit wrong. She has chronic lung disease so probably wouldn't recover as well as I did.

Lockheart · 15/03/2020 16:54

@LemonRedwood thank you for answering.

I felt exactly like you describe for about an hour on Friday night, and then again for about half an hour this morning. Like you I wasn't actually sick either but my stomach felt very volatile for a short while. I'm hoping it's not coronavirus given I saw my parents this weekend! However I felt perfectly fine on Saturday and I feel ok now... Very odd.

At the moment I really have no symptoms of anything, so hoping it was perhaps a nervous thing.

Knittingnanny · 15/03/2020 16:55

I’ve had a sore throat on and off in varying degrees of severity for 5 weeks. I don’t think it’s a symptom of corona.

LemonRedwood · 15/03/2020 16:57

Lockheart I have no idea if it was related at all - it could have been a complete coincidence! I work in and out of schools so could have picked up any number of things from the germy little blighters 😂

Lockheart · 15/03/2020 17:00

Fair enough @LemonRedwood! My housemate also works in a school so lord knows what she's bringing home(!!).

But thank you anyway for letting me know - I'll be hyper vigilant and monitor my temperature closely, and if the nausea comes back I won't go to work / I'll come straight home from work. Better to be safe than sorry and I can work from home!

CarolineIngalls · 15/03/2020 17:01

Ten days ago I had a sore throat and today I can hardly breathe. It is a symptom OR we have two different high infectious respiratory viruses going around (I had a flu shot)

CarolineIngalls · 15/03/2020 17:03

Wouldn't it be fab if we didn't have to guess?

NaturalBornWoman · 15/03/2020 17:12

I had a sore throat several days last week, felt off colour, highest temp recorded was 37.5 and now it's on my chest. I am planning to ask my doctor for antibiotics tomorrow as I feel like I have a chest infection and I've just come off immune suppressing drugs. I don't know how I managed to pick up yet another bloody virus anyway, I've only been to the office once in a fortnight and haven't left my village and I've been scrupulous about avoiding people and hand hygiene.

feelingverylazytoday · 15/03/2020 17:18

If they are not testing they haven't got a clue how many have it
This isn't true. They can make a rough estimation from how many people are being admitted to hospital, based on the information they already have on the virus.

Solomon1212 · 15/03/2020 17:25

Im convinced myself and partner had it about 4 weeks ago before it really came to light. Temps of 39 with excessive sweating , flu like symptoms as well as tingling of the arms and legs (a numb kind of feeling with shooting pains) and the worst cough and headaches. You literally cannot move, eat, drink or talk.
I went to the docs, wasnt asked if id been in contact with anyone and wasn't tested. I had a hard job to breath as did my partner and i was left with an awful chest infection. My partner had a sore throat but i didnt.
Not sure if it was but i can honestly say it was the worst thing ive ever had and would never want it again. Im a HCA so could quite possibly have come into contact with someone and having an auto immune disease came out worse with the infection. And even now im still recovering!
If any one is worried or displaying symptoms which is 'flu like' you must self isolate and ring 111.

2020newme · 15/03/2020 17:34

So get off Mumsnet and go and get tested

As PP have stated, only hospitalised patients are being tested, so the official figures of those who have been diagnosed, whilst accurate, are way way off the actual figure of those who have the virus.

I am very very hot and am having some breathing issues. No cough. Slight sore throat. If I don't feel better by tomorrow I guess I will have to self isolate Sad

SheldonSaysSo1 · 15/03/2020 17:38

@Wiggglewaggle01

I noticed you said you had an autoimmune deficiency. In which case the advice may be different for you, as often even minor infections can cause problems for some people with these issues.

Please keep an eye on your symptoms and contact 111/gp/specialist by phone for advice if needed.

EnsignRoLaren · 15/03/2020 17:45

@2020newme you already have to self isolate for 7 days, whether you think it’s CV or not. Even if it isn’t, you have a nasty virus and should risk passing it on to others, who would then also have a weakened immune system at a critical moment. Think of it this way - if you don’t have CV, do you really want to risk getting it now?

Myshinynewname · 15/03/2020 18:50

I read the WHO guidance for clinicians this afternoon - it lists a sore throat as a symptom.
I started with a sore throat and dry cough, over the weekend have had muscle aches, raised temp (only to 38), sore chest, cough and moderate shortness of breath. No runny nose. I don't know whether I have it but I seem to have all the symptoms. I'm in my thirties and feel like I'm improving now.

Snaptheirfingers · 15/03/2020 20:36

I got out of Italy (not a high risk area) on Tuesday, it was scary as we knew the borders were closing. Next 4 days had a raw chest, like having been standing by a bonfire or smoke half a dozen cigarettes. First 2 days tired, I thought because of returning from holiday and the ordeal. Have been self-isolating. Strange thing is the person I escaped with who lives elsewhere, has had just the same symptoms, which passed after the same time. Was/is this CV?

FrangipaniBlue · 15/03/2020 20:44

@LemonRedwood the stomach upset but no actual sickness is exactly how DS started on Friday and was sent home from school.

By the evening he was complaining of a headache and stiff neck and temp was 37.5, yesterday that was back down at 36.4 but then the sore throat and cough started.

Today he's aching and stiff in all his limbs and has a coughing fit every time he walks around and gets out of breath.

alexasaymyname · 16/03/2020 17:45

In my feed today. Nephew fever and vomiting, so probably not CV but family must self isolate according to 111, except work won't allow both parents time off!

The Virus. Think I've got it.
Furble · 16/03/2020 18:35

Those of us who are ailing how are you holding up today? It’s day four for me and the first full day without a fever woohoo! My temperature did rise in the afternoon, basically today has taught my that I cannot exert myself at all just yet.
Things I have learnt today. Drinking water every half hour really helps (I set a timer to remind myself) and it’s best to just stay horizontal and rest as much as possible.
Sending get well wishes to everyone currently unwell. I’m hoping day five brings some improvement with it.

Willow83 · 18/03/2020 14:27

How are you feeling today?
I’m on day 5.. I’m
Actually more scared today as this I’ve heard is the tipping point for some in where things progress. Fingers crossed it doesn’t.
My son has developed a dry cough and is short of breath when talking.
So far my symptoms have been fever, shills and general flue fatigue feeling.

Lllot5 · 18/03/2020 14:29

@Snoozysnoozy 🤣🤣

Furble · 18/03/2020 15:53

@Willow83 I’m on day 6 and fever is gone but I still have chest pains, headache and extremely wiped out. I’m not as breathless as I was as when I cough my head doesn’t swim so much. Rationally I know I am improving because my temperature is down and my breathing is improved but my chest pains are worse and that does scare me. I’ve not been this ill since I was hospitalised as a child.
Hope you and your son continue to stay mild in your symptoms. Rest up and stay hydrated.

Willow83 · 18/03/2020 18:49

It does sound as though things are improving for you 🙏🏼
I’ve started to notice a slight burny feeling in my chest, I’m trying to ignore it and hope it’s all my head.
Is this something you experience?
My anxiety was through the roof today. It’s all very worrying! I’m trying to see the positives where I can but it’s defiantly a challenge with what’s going around us.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions:) good luck and hope you feel much better soon x

Furble · 18/03/2020 19:27

@Willow83 My chest is also burning and I am also a bit afraid and trying not to worry about it too much. I hope it’s my body fighting it. Please take care of yourself and rest up.

Willow83 · 20/03/2020 10:55

Hi I was just wondering how you are doing today. I’m starting to feel a bit better in myself, although I’m still anxious as to when and if this will be over.
My temp is lower but still tired and have some pains in back and occasionally burning in chest.
Xx
