Got a really sore throat that's been getting progressively worse. Quite concerned it's 'The Virus'!
Anyone else that's Ill? How are you coping?

Nhs website says only to phone 111 if you cannot manage at home. They are not routinely testing.

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2020 16:08

Oh that’s interesting away. I hadn’t seen that mentioned before. I am self isolating (again) I guess anyway as I wait and see what happens.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 16:14

put the kettle on, sit tight and monitor your temperature.

take some paracetamol and self isolate.

I think that about covers all the advice.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 16:15

I've had it. Now recovered. Stay away from other people as much as you can until you're better and practise good hygiene. The vast majority of people who get it will be fine. It's about protecting other people.

Can you please tell us about it?

feelingverylazytoday · 15/03/2020 16:15

The sore throat is more likely to be a different bug that is circulating at the moment. I had that one a few weeks ago. I also had an abdominal pain, slight fever and fatigue with it.

Frangipanini · 15/03/2020 16:16

So, only phone 111 if you cannot manage and you can't get tested unless you are in hospital.

So, this just under 1,200 cases figure is a gross underestimation of Coronavirus in the UK then. Hmm

HoffiCoffi13 · 15/03/2020 16:16

So get off Mumsnet and go and get tested

Are you going to let us know where we can just wander up and get a test on demand?
As you’d know if you read the official advice, they are only testing those who are admitted to hospital. Everyone else is expected to stay at home and manage symptoms themselves.

LemonRedwood · 15/03/2020 16:19

@NaturalBornWoman

Yes, I am one of the confirmed cases. I was tested because I had had close contact with someone else who was a confirmed case.

My symptoms started out like a stomach bug, so I didn't immediately make the link but was unwell enough to call in sick to work. A fever followed pretty quickly and lasted about 48hrs for me. I was having some significant trouble breathing, even at rest. Once my fever went down, I was still struggling a bit with breathlessness - getting dressed left me tired and out of breath. I did not have a cough or sore throat.

All-in-all, it was about 3 days of nastiness. It felt very much like flu for me, but I feel I am quite a mild case. I am usually fit and healthy so that helped I guess.

LemonRedwood · 15/03/2020 16:21

Forgot to say, I had general muscle-aches as well. Like when I previously had flu.

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2020 16:23

Support lemon and so glad you’re recovered/ing.
This kind of first hand info is so important.

bobstersmum · 15/03/2020 16:27

When did a sore throat become a key symptom? I started with a horrible throat on Wednesday night and flu like symptoms, very high fever, 111 were not interested and told me I didn't need to self isolate, and Dr gave me antibiotics over phone! So I could have it??

sestras · 15/03/2020 16:29

I'm glad you're better lemon.

My husband had something very similar to you. They would not test him because he hadn't been in close contact with anyone who had it or recently returned from one of the affected countries.

RazzleDazzle26 · 15/03/2020 16:30

I’ve just started a cough and ache. No temperature. I can wfh if I feel up to it tomorrow. Will stay home.

Do i send the teenagers to school, both are well. However, we are all sharing the same home and no matter how much I’ve cleaned and we’re all washing hands does feel quite negligent to send them in tomorrow (which I think is the current government advice)...

magoria · 15/03/2020 16:30

What Frangipanini says. If they are not testing they haven't got a clue how many have it.

Apolloanddaphne · 15/03/2020 16:31

I've come down with a snuffly, sneezy cold over night. I have not got a temperature or a cough of any sort. I am therefore not self isolating but just being careful with hygiene and only doing what I have to do.

Lockheart · 15/03/2020 16:32

@LemonRedwood if you don't mind my asking, what sort of symptoms were you getting initially when it felt like a stomach bug?

NaturalBornWoman · 15/03/2020 16:33

Thanks lemon sounds unpleasant. Glad you're feeling better.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 16:35

I had this.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 16:37

Glad to hear you are better.

Do you mind telling us your age bracket?

LouQoo · 15/03/2020 16:37

I’m not old and have no underlying illnesses, usually perfectly fit and healthy.

I’ve had a chesty but dry cough since Thursday. Started sneezing yesterday and have a mild headache and fever. I also noticed a few joint pains yesterday.

I’ve only ever had flu once and I was in bed sweating and with the chills for 3 days. Could hardly move. This is nowhere near that but I’m planning on self isolating for a few days. Even if it’s something else, it’s probably good practice to do that anyway.

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2020 16:39

I’ve had various ‘things’ like most winters over the last few weeks. My natural remedy would be ‘get up, go out, see people, etc’. Almost always feel better for it and turns out to have been minor nothing. Trouble now is were kind of stuck and interrogating every single thing and unable to get out as easily. Actually may go for walk round block staying distance from all and wiping down front door. FML.

TheoriginalLEM · 15/03/2020 16:40

Thank you so much for sharing that Lemon. I live in fear of sore throats it is right up at the top of my list of things I'm a big baby about. Fortunately whenever I've had anything that has gone to other people's chests I have always dodged that particular bullet so here's hoping. I'm glad you're better. Was there much hand waving and jumping up an by the medics when you tested positive ? Or were you just told to self isolate?

JustDanceAddict · 15/03/2020 16:41

I’ve developed a sore throat and now a temp today. No cough really yet but I’m going to have to self-isolate now.
111 advice is to stay at home if you feel well enough to move around and keep away from family as much as possible - luckily the rest of them will be at work and school tmw so I can move about more and disinfect what I need to touch.

Furble · 15/03/2020 16:41

I’m pretty sure I have it at the moment. On day 3.
Two days prior to fever I had very bad sore throat.
Day 1 I woke in early hours with fever and very bad headache. Headache was so bad I could barely see. I just took paracetamol and drank water and slept all day.
Day 2 I felt better on waking. Temp a bit lower. Headache gone. Mild chest pains and mild breathlessness.
Day 3 I felt ok on waking but now fever is back and I am extremely breathless and have chest pains. Cough since day 2 is occasional breathless cough that leaves me
Lightheaded.
I can’t do anything other than lie and sleep and scroll.
111 guidance is to only call back if I can’t manage my symptoms or I’ve been ill for 7 days.

Mumblechum0 · 15/03/2020 16:47

Pretty sure DH has it, absolute textbook symptoms and I’m starting to feel poorly now. Self isolating for at least a week ☹️
