It’s a live show with hundreds in the audience

We have a show called the Late Late Show here in Ireland. It was on as usual last night, but with no band or audience. The host had on some doctors and people to speak about the virus. Then ran some old interviews. It was really good, and a lot more responsible than packing people into a studio.

Hairydilemma · 14/03/2020 19:53

I was surprised too. I’d be very surprised (and not too impressed) if there’s still a studio audience next week.

youngestisapsycho · 14/03/2020 19:56

Well theatres are still on, I went Thursday night....

NailsNeedDoing · 14/03/2020 20:04

All the people that chose to use their tickets to the show are grown ups that can make their own choice about whether they should be their or not. It’s probably something that all those people had been looking forward to, and I don’t see why we should put life on hold beyond the government guidelines until it is deemed necessary.

I think people are starting to accept that we might all have to spend some time in isolation at some point, and want to make the most of vague normality while they can.

@Wannabangbang
They announced at the very beginning that the trip to Florida was postponed.

managedmis · 14/03/2020 20:07

What's going on?

PopcornZoo · 14/03/2020 20:08

Cinemas and theatres aren't closed, are they?

PopcornZoo · 14/03/2020 20:09

What is strange about it is combining family/children's entertainment with men stripping.

Pteuropa · 14/03/2020 20:09

I’m not surprised at all. I work in the nhs, our hospital has several staff briefings scheduled for Monday, updating us on the action plan. That’s 200 people at a time sitting in a lecture theatre. Far more important than a tv show but just an example of how this is happening all over the country.

Fiddlersgreen · 14/03/2020 20:13

It’s no different to people getting on the bus or other public transport. People still have to go to work.
Every one there is an adult who is capable of making their own decisions on this. I’m sure if they had at risk people at home etc then they wouldn’t have gone.
The government hasn’t shut down large events so why would ITV put a stop to this?

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 20:15

We’re going to the cinema on Monday.

ivykaty44 · 14/03/2020 20:18

90,000 people at the races in Cheltenham yesterday, with absolutely standing room only...

SapphireSalute · 14/03/2020 20:21

I’m not surprised at all.... they are a pair of idiots imo and will do the same thing next week

Likethebattle · 14/03/2020 20:25

I’m just surprise anyone gives them airtime, talentless and as funny as the clap!

WyfOfBathe · 14/03/2020 20:25

Cinemas and theatres aren't closed, are they?

Not in England/UK. Some may have chosen to close, but there's no rule about it and all my local ones are open.

GilchristQ · 14/03/2020 20:25

Cheltenham happened.
You can still go to the cinema and theatre.

Not really sure how this is different or worse

Sunshineand · 14/03/2020 20:26

Didn't the government say carry on as usual, or did I imagine that?! Confused

Leithwalk · 14/03/2020 20:28

I felt the same as you OP about yesterdays ACSL Conference shown on the news - 200 headteachers and the Education Secretary packed into one room!

OrchidJewel · 14/03/2020 20:37

Well we are on near shut down in Ireland. Schools, colleges closed. All large events, concerts, weddings etc cancelled. Most are working from home if they can or very limited staff in offices, all spaced out. They took away our salt and pepper sellers last week in the canteen! Playgrounds closed. There is now no social contact, no play dates, parties. No mixing with grand parents, if your over 60 your working from home for the foreseeable. They are planning closing the airports. We can walk in a park. Shops still mad but large spacing in Q's, really weird. A lot of nastiness going on, your in my space, keep away from me etc but in general we are united. Our problem is NI as UK are not enforcing anything.

OrchidJewel · 14/03/2020 20:38

Oh they sent medical students and student nurses home. The poor poor hospital/emergency service staff. Stressed to the hilt.

Ugzbugz · 14/03/2020 20:39

The supermarkets are rammed so same thing.

VapingHot · 14/03/2020 20:40

I'm surprised Ant & Dec appear on TV ever. Fucking overrated, let alone the drink driving.

MitziK · 14/03/2020 20:42

I'm shocked that they are on TV in the first place.

They're fucking dire.

tobee · 14/03/2020 21:02

They had Sport Relief on on bbc1 last night. Studio audience but I only glanced at it so don't know if anything was mentioned?

RasberryRoyale · 14/03/2020 21:05

Saturday night takeaway wouldn’t work without an audience.

It’s bad enough with an audience, never mid without!
