Coronavirus seems to only affect mostly older people with already compromised immune systems. So far we have had only 11 deaths some being 80 even a ninety-year-old. The press is whipping people up into a hysteria in my view I have a degree in biology I am not a doctor but I would say that some of this is ridiculous.

OP posts:
DakotaFanny · 14/03/2020 14:13

I’ve just read on another thread that there have been 10 more deaths since yesterday.

ChipotleBlessing · 14/03/2020 14:14

Great, good that you’re not worried about it. Are you volunteering to help the infected in hospital? Because if there’s nothing to be concerned about, you’d be completely willing to do that I guess?

ChequerBoard · 14/03/2020 14:14

Jesus, how thick are you OP?

Hollyhobbi · 14/03/2020 14:16

My work colleague is 42 and has been battling lung cancer for nearly 2 decades. She wasn't even a smoker. She's on chemotherapy. Another friend has a rare disease and another one has arthritis and both of them are on drugs that mean their immune system is compromised. Should all these 40 year olds die?

Purplewhitelie · 14/03/2020 14:16

Yes but ignorance is bliss they say.

nellodee · 14/03/2020 14:17

@Ellapaella, how is it that there are suddenly so many people requiring intubation, even though they have emptied out whole wards to turn into coronavirus wards... and now these wards are full of people without coronavirus, preventing elderly virus sufferers from receiving care? Does that really sound right?

Or could it actually be the case that when you have thousands of people infected, even if the majority of them are old, that still leaves a huge, huge amount of younger people needing critical care.

daisypond · 14/03/2020 14:17

Reports leaking out of North Korea say hundreds of soldiers have died - presumably young and fit.

nellodee · 14/03/2020 14:18

And for gods sake, I don't want older people to die in huge numbers, either!

Toria70 · 14/03/2020 14:19

I hope that people are happy losing their jobs as a result of this mass hysteria. Because it will bring many companies to their knees.

It is ridiculous beyond measure. 11 deaths in a population of 65+ million.

People need to get a grip. Especially many on MN who all appear to have out of control health anxiety.

Anotheruser02 · 14/03/2020 14:19

21 have now died in the UK. Sad

ThreeGirlsPlayCharades · 14/03/2020 14:20

21 deaths.

The doctor in wuhan raised an alert about a new respiratory illness 11 weeks ago. 11 weeks.

Please educate yourself on viruses and how they spread.

readingismycardio · 14/03/2020 14:21

I can't believe people still have the guts to say this on a public forum. Just stay home and shut up. I take it you don't have parents, grandparents, etc. Degree in biology, maybe.
Common sense......

DitheringDoris · 14/03/2020 14:21

@Toria70 I hope it is mass hysteria rather than the alternative. We only have to wait a couple of weeks to find out.

nellodee · 14/03/2020 14:21

21 deaths. They have just doubled in 24 hours. This is how exponential growth words. The deaths will have doubled again in a few days. And in a few days after that.

Almost doubling in 1 day though... that's... bad.

Forgone90 · 14/03/2020 14:21

I don't normally rate trump but what he said yesterday really hit home...

Yes it may only be the elderly that get this... But these people are the ones that fraught wars so we had a free country.. They are the ones that tucked us in at night and gave us unconditional love... These people are the reason we have the country we have today and we owe it to them to protect them and make sure they are safe through this crisis!

Purplewhitelie · 14/03/2020 14:22

You can’t tell .....

Nyctophyllia · 14/03/2020 14:22

Theres now 21 deaths

Forgone90 · 14/03/2020 14:23

Fought *

ThreeGirlsPlayCharades · 14/03/2020 14:23

anyone who thinks that we are too smart to outwit a brand new virus that we do not really have a grip on how it works and mutates and then thins that the world's EXPERTs are over reacting is frankly a bit ... well I will not be rude.

starrynight19 · 14/03/2020 14:23

What about the mum who has passed it to her new born baby ?
She is obviously of child bearing age and has contracted pneumonia.

MoltonSilver · 14/03/2020 14:24

So every medical organisation and every government in the world is exaggerating but you are the lone voice of reason? Well done.

daisypond · 14/03/2020 14:27

it may only be the elderly that get this...
It isn’t. They are not even the only ones dying. They just die first.

MigginsMrs · 14/03/2020 14:27

Most of us will be fine it is true. But the NHS can simply not cope with the number of people who will not be OK. I imagine the situation in the NHS is pretty precarious at the moment and we are not in the think of it yet. That is the problem. The number of people who will require critical care at the same time is the issue.

This.

dottiedodah · 14/03/2020 14:27

Dont forgetyourbrolly People cant win can they? If we stockpile in case we need to self isolate we are selfish .If we dont and we run out of things while infectious ,we run the risk of compromising your little nieces health and others like her !

PIPinghell · 14/03/2020 14:28

The number of deaths has just doubled in one day, so no I don't think so.
