How worried are you?

I have a child with severe SN who has health related issues, I am worried, not so much about them catching the virus, they may sail through it but if they don’t they will need hospital care, I think we may have to face the same problems that Italy are having at the moment of prioritising care, I can’t see my child getting priority over a NT child. That’s my biggest fear. The disabled are nobodies priority except the people that love them.

Yes I do and I'm struggling to find any info on the implications regarding immunosuppression and Coronavirus

DD has ME. DH is a teacher and canon fodder for herd immunity. DS too. Both are still at school at the moment. DH isn't sleeping as he's so worried about contracting it and passing it onto DD.

DD has today decided to self isolate. After 4 really shit years of enforced isolation, but just starting to be well enough to go outside in the last 6 months. Which feels pretty futile if DH & DS are spending every day in a hotbed off potential coronavirus.

Not immunosuppressed but serious heart and lung conditions 🙁 terrified.

How old is your child, if they are under ten the main theory is the part of the lung that causes the serious/fatal cases are not developed yet.
So yes being immune compromised as a child means you are at higher risk of catching corona but not due to age at higher risk of complications.
That’s how I understand it as an immune compromised adult.

Thank you for replying. He's 10 and on an immunosuppressant tablet (Azathioprine) and 6 weekly Biologic infusions (Infliximab). He has Crohn's disease. Thankfully we home educate but I'm also keeping him away from people as much as possible. Getting a bit stressed now

Yes, my son (11) takes mycophenolate mofitil for a kidney condition. Told school I’m worried and they said they will authorise the absence with a drs letter

We have a DD with SN and she’s immunosuppressive due to her medication. I am considering stopping her meds, we will be speaking to her consultant at the start of the week and going from there. I’m not sure if I’m being completely OTT to be this concerned but with no information out there it’s difficult not to quietly panic.

Just to add, our DD hasn’t been in school for 2 weeks.

Definitley the lack of information that is concerning me. I've heard nothing from his consultant and he's due an infusion in 2 weeks time. I'm tempted to stop his tablet just to maybe enable him some more protection but don't want to be irresponsible at the same time. I'm worried nobody really knows how it's going to affect the immunosuppressed

Op I am on Humiria a similar biologic my rheumatologist said to carry on taking it unless showing symptoms. He did say I was more prone to infections. Have you emailed your ds consultants secretary?

No not yet, I'm kind of waiting until we're due to go up for the infusion and then I'll text his nurse and see what she says

We are in a very similar position to you Cockney regarding meds etc. It’s very worrying that nobody seems to have the answer on how it will affect our children.

an epidemiologist tweeted today that at the peak of risk the immune suppressed and chronically ill will be asked to isolate for 14 to 16 weeks. Then she took down the tweet

My son is a young adult now (19) but I consider him at risk with cerebral palsy and a history of severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia and oxygen dependence. He contracted RSV virus at eight months and was on a ventilator for 19 days. It was hell on earth. He's out of school now (closed for next two weeks.) I'm isolating him as much as can be done

My son has a primary immune disorder and I am absolutely terrified. He’s only 4 and in pre-school so I think we are going to take him out as of next week until we get a clearer idea of the picture. I am worried about the impact on his social development though as he wasn’t around other kids for the best part of a year when he was going through diagnosis so he’s socially not where he should be. Given the reports of it largely sparing children I was tempted to keep him in school but I’ve since seen a frightening amount that suggests that might not be the long term picture. This is so bloody hard and giving me ridiculous anxiety.

Op I have a 17 yr old newly diagnosed Ds with Pancolitis. He's on Prednisolone and and other drug which I can't remember the name of. Last week he got impetigo, which isn't a usual infection for a 17yr old so he's obviously - quite run down. He's no longer severely anaemic thankfully after 2 iron infusions and he's gained weight so I'm hoping that'll help. I'm quite worried tbh but he's 17 and thinks he's invincible!! I also have an asthmatic DD.

I want to pull DS from school but he missed lots at the beginning of jan through feb and he's about to do his A levels - he enjoys school and he wants to stay...really hope they just shut them!!

@SoCockneyItHurts my 17 year old is also on Azathioprine & infliximab for Crohn’s. He also knows better than anyone about everything (see also ‘17 year old’) & there is no way he will take any measures to protect himself - & since he’s 17, there is little I can do. And I am a teacher so I could easily bring it home.
