Holy shit, this is unreal.

And Trump aint going there either but he may pop in here for a bit...Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/03/2020 05:42

Shock BBC article: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-51846923

The article says that people coming from the U.K. won’t be banned, which I find odd because I don’t think our government is handling it well at all. Schools are no longer being closed and deep cleaned if someone has been there for example. Plus all of the worrying comments from posters I’ve read on other threads.

Omg. I just also read it’s been declared a pandemic by the WHO!

Laks0007 · 12/03/2020 05:43

Except the UK, because we don't need to do anything - Borris thinks we are immune.

Trump agreed.

Drivemybluecar · 12/03/2020 05:47

What makes us so bloody special ?????

Outfoxed · 12/03/2020 05:49

Because Trump wants to be able to go to his golf course still..

HelgaHere1 · 12/03/2020 05:52

Wow, airlines will be hit.

joffreyscoffees · 12/03/2020 05:55

No idea why he's left UK out of this. We're one of the worst hit in Europe and not handling it particularly well.

allallin · 12/03/2020 06:04

He or his family probably have a trip planned !

OP posts:
Loppy10 · 12/03/2020 06:07

Bit pointless to exclude the UK, we've been hit too, plus Europeans who want to travel will just reroute via Heathrow or Manchester

SweetMarmalade · 12/03/2020 06:07

Yes it’s puzzling why he’s left us out considering we’re still allowing flights in from all over Europe. Won’t they then just come here to take a flight out?!

allallin · 12/03/2020 06:13

or maybe he didn't know UK was not part of Schengen.

OP posts:
allallin · 12/03/2020 06:15

I take that back, he specifically says these restrictions will not apply to the United Kingdom.

OP posts:
Bagelsandbrie · 12/03/2020 06:16

This will be a test to see if the UK follows suit - if we are really out of Europe we need to follow the USAs take on this.

SweetMarmalade · 12/03/2020 06:21

It only makes sense that we would follow suit surely?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/03/2020 06:23

I cannot fathom the implications on airlines, hotels and insurance claims......
God knows why he left the UK off the list?!

DominicCummingsForehead · 12/03/2020 06:25

Purely political.

Mlou32 · 12/03/2020 06:44

I'd say he was being sensible in banning flights but has made the mistake of leaving the UK off the ban list. More countries, including ours need to be taking such steps.

DakotaFanny · 12/03/2020 06:54

This is crazy? How can he differentiate between the UK and the rest of Europe? Did our island move when we Brexited??

GCAcademic · 12/03/2020 06:57

Surely this means that anyone in Europe who is determined to travel to the USA will do so via the U.K.?

SelfIsolating · 12/03/2020 07:02

Which will bring more people from Europe, who may potentially be carrying the disease, to the UK.

World's gone mad.

YeahLikeNoThough · 12/03/2020 07:07

The UK exception is, quite obviously, pure politics, I would have reckoned. Trump thinks of the rest of the world in terms of "good guys and bad guys" - because he's just literally that dimwitted!

But, yes, the implications for the travel industry will be horrendous. I'm predicting at least two big brand carriers in the airline industry will not survive this. The costs of keeping a fleet of modern passenger aircraft on the ground without them generating any revenue are simply prohibitive.

canyon2000 · 12/03/2020 07:07

The ban applies to anyone who has been in the EU in the past 14 days. I imagine they will be turned away at passport control when they present an EU passport if they try and come in via UK.

MadamNoo · 12/03/2020 07:08

You won’t be able to enter the US if you have been in the restricted area in the past 14 days so not as simple as routing via Heathrow

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 12/03/2020 07:10

I think this is the right thing to do and the UK should follow suit with regards to people flying in/out not just Europe tho.

We were due to go to Florida in October as a large family holiday but my mums put my dad off booking for now.

Skyejuly · 12/03/2020 07:13

This sounds ridiculous. My sister is still planning to go to the Dominican republic next month.
