Covid
Can someone talk some sense into me please?
Confuzzled123 · 08/03/2020 21:36
I have germ related OCD. My life is a nightmare right now so I would really appreciate some kind but firm sense talking.
My DP has just informed me that he is DF has taken to his bed with a temperature and a sore throat.
I’m now absolutely freaking out that he has coronavirus and that I’m currently incubating it.
Is this unlikely? It is isn’t it and I’m just being irrational due to my OCD?
raffaroo · 08/03/2020 21:40
I would say that it's very unlikely to be Coronavirus and more likely to be a seasonal cold which many people have at the moment.
LooseleafTea · 08/03/2020 21:42
It’s so unlikely and also bear in mind unless you have health conditions or are elderly you’d both likely recover well anyway.
Sorry you are finding it difficult, it is a hard time for a lot of people I think as it’s an uncertain time
MajesticWhine · 08/03/2020 21:46
It is unlikely. But it is also possible. No one on here can reassure you I'm afraid. Is it not more concerning for your DP's DF if it is coronavirus than it is for you? Or do you have underlying health conditions.

There's a positive mental health thread here:

Lots of people are finding this very tough
Confuzzled123 · 08/03/2020 21:48
I’m terrified for us all and my elderly mother. I don’t want to be responsible for killing her.

OP, I too have a germ OCD. I recently half Joked to my husband that my OCD might be what saves us.
Joking aside, it will help you focus, use it to channel your energy into positive hygiene for your family.
If you are finding your anxiety is too much maybe ask your GP for help.
I'm able to talk myself through things, but my OCD has influenced me in setting up a sanitisation station before anyone enters my house. No bags, no shoes, no coats allowed in and hands washed immediately.
The children are dispatched each day with hand sanitizer.
I can't work out if this is too OTT but it's helping calm my OCD.

Thanks. I’ll check out the positive mental health thread.
