What to do in self-isolation

VelvetRibbon · 04/03/2020 18:41

A friend of mine has just returned from a two-week break in a place that has been categorised as high risk whilst she was there. She has no symptoms but has been advised by work to self-isolate. She has no symptoms, and no children so her time is all hers.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something to send her/leave on her doorstop/advise her to do to keep the boredom at bay?

If that happened to me, I'd do a massive deep clean of the house, room by room! I'd do some decorating/house improvements and gardening if that was safe for others.
I'd binge watch some TV, so maybe some DVD's or TV recommendations?
I'd read, so maybe some books?
Maybe try learning a foreign language or sign language through youtube or similar?

Egghead68 · 04/03/2020 18:56

I had a few days stuck indoors this week. Netflix featured heavily. Wine would have been a good present. Is your friend into any sort of crafts? Some materials of craft kits might be good if so?

TARSCOUT · 04/03/2020 19:05

@inspiralcarpetry
Those are my exact self isolation plans apart from learning another language!

Thesearmsofmine · 04/03/2020 19:07

I would have a really good clean at someone else said and do any little jobs I have been meaning to get done. Then I’d have long Hubble baths and read loads of books.

AuntieMarys · 04/03/2020 19:08

If my dh had to self isolate, I would have bought a shit load of paint to decorate a couple of rooms.

CroissantsAtDawn · 04/03/2020 19:11

Declutter and deep clean.

Id also finish some photo albums that i just never get around to making.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2020 19:15

Boring one but try and keep exercising. Star jumps, that kind of thing. Sleep better if you are physically tired.

Littlemeadow123 · 04/03/2020 19:22

Start learning a new language
Bake
Binge watch her favourite tv series/movie trilogies.
Read
Do craft projects
Any decorating/housework jobs that need doing.
Fiction/non-fictional writing

Insaneinthemembury · 04/03/2020 19:24

I work from home, so I'd work 😭 bloody internet

Inspiralcarpetry · 04/03/2020 19:26

Another one-loads of beauty treatments like face masks and stuff like that! Could try combining it with a bit of a detox and emerge like a lovely butterfly! I could do with shifting several stones but the bloody cheap Easter eggs keep calling me when I'm in the supermarket Blush
Also, order online and write B'day/occasion cards needed for the rest of the year.
And more Netflix!!Grin

scrivette · 04/03/2020 19:26

I would clean the house from top to bottom, sort out my wardrobes, make lots of cakes and biscuits and meals from scratch. Do lots of craft, play board games, have a film afternoons, tidy the garden, read some books and magazines... I may have thought about this quite a lot.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 04/03/2020 19:28

Maybe a jigsaw as a present, OP?

I agree with the others - catching up on tasks I keep meaning to do - as long as DH and DS aren't with me.

lachy · 04/03/2020 19:29

If I had to self isolate I'd probably have to work as I wouldn't be ill.

If I wasn't allowed to work and had two weeks to myself in my own house with no DH or DD I'd blitz the house room by room, and then I'd flop on the sofa with chocolate, crisps, tea and box sets Grin

Delatron · 04/03/2020 19:29

I like a routine so I would definitely do some exercise each day. Online stuff. Then I’d decorate? Paint some rooms. Have a clear out (obviously just chucking things in to bin bags for now).
I’d get stuck in to a new book. Try meditation.
Lots of Netflix but try to keep moving too!
I work from home too so there’s lots of updating of my website I could do. Social media work etc. I think I’d like it for about a week then get bored..

Findumdum1 · 04/03/2020 19:31

If not actively ill i would:

Finish all the video games I never finished
Read all the books I have been meaning to read
Watch a load of boxsets
Do some online training courses I need to do for work
Do some jigsaws
Sort out all the piles of junk I have been meaning to sort
But photos in frames
Sort out online photos

MissPoldark · 04/03/2020 19:34

Reading
Knitting, sewing
Puzzles
Sort out paperwork and home admin
Tidy cupboards
Make recipe binder
Baking
Gardening
Deep cleaning of house
Learn to juggle
Learn a new language
Free online courses

Loads of things!

MissPoldark · 04/03/2020 19:34

Oh, meant to say yoga

bitheby · 04/03/2020 19:34

I really need to sort my house out as it's so untidy. I also want to dig my veggie patches ready for planting and sort out the greenhouse. I have so much to do, 14 days wouldn't be enough!!

DonPablo · 04/03/2020 19:36

Seeds, compost and pots. She could have tomatoes and cucumbers all summer! Oh wait, that's what I'd do. And read.

cricketmum84 · 04/03/2020 19:39

I would have a clear out in the house one room per morning (or half a room lol) then I would download a load of books onto my kindle and snuggle up and read on an afternoon.

If it was a friend I would drop off a bottle of gin or two! Plus books, magazines and any other shopping they requested. Easy enough to drop it at the door for them to collect after you have gone.

CeibaTree · 04/03/2020 19:40

If my dh had to self isolate, I would have bought a shit load of paint to decorate a couple of rooms.
If we had to self isolate all our internal doors and skirting boards need painting - although I'd probably do it myself and let DH entertain the DC :)

VelvetRibbon · 04/03/2020 20:15

Thank you, there are some great suggestions here! She rents so redecorating is out of the question unfortunately.

I don't think she's read the Outlander books...

OP posts:
Hugglespuffed · 04/03/2020 20:23

If this was me then I'd have a proper clear out (putting things in piles!)
Exercise
Long baths
Baking
Ask someone to leave me jigsaws!
Me and my brother occasionally play a quiz app against each other when we are together but the app means you can play from anywhere, so if you have any time (or interest haha) in this, it could be nice for her to feel like she is playing against an actual friend!
I love the thought of having that much time but I know by day 2 I'd be bored.

Acrasia · 04/03/2020 20:35

Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist has just been announced, so that’s what I’d be reading!

Devlesko · 04/03/2020 21:36

I'm self isolating this week. It isn't intentional there's nobody here. Grin
I work for myself and have a quiet week, so no work to do.

I've cleaned the house, sorted out kitchen cupboards, done a big shop, social media, reading, listening to music, ancestry and DNA, activism, read some tea leaves for family (over skype).
Tomorrow tackling mine and dh wardrobes, that will take all day, they're terrible.
Then who knows for friday, maybe a pamper, gardening if weather ok, and whatever I feel like on the day.
Might go out saturday.
