Covid
I really don't trust Boris Johnson on coronavirus because of his non stop lying.
KenDodd · 02/03/2020 21:49
He lies all the time.
He gets his cabinet to chant lies.
He said the NHS is fully prepared to cope with coronavirus when we all know the NHS has been starved of funds for the last ten years and can barely cope with winter.
I've never known any UK politician lie like this and I really wish he wouldn't.
Devlesko · 02/03/2020 22:00
They can't even agree if we sing The national Anthem or Happy Birthday. when we wash our hands.
Waterandlemonjuice · 02/03/2020 22:03
You could have ended the sentence in the OP after “Boris Johnson”
He can’t even tell us how many children he has.
Youngatheart00 · 02/03/2020 22:03
Not every situation needs to turn into a government bash. I’m not the biggest Boris fan at all but I think he has the tone right, and Hancock as health secretary is doing a good job with comms. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes I suspect with contingency plans, but no one wants to provoke hysteria. Ultimately, this isn’t the government’s fault. There are levers they can pull with the budget / monetary policy to pump more money in to the NHS for Coronavirus if needed.
RuffleCrow · 02/03/2020 22:04
Well he may lie a lot but at the moment there seems to be competition going on for who can be the least credible. It's "Brexit is really great idea" vs "humans can change sex".
hapagirl · 02/03/2020 22:04
Totally with you. I wasn’t worried until today when he said “believe me”. Now I’m terrified.
KenDodd · 02/03/2020 22:06
I really wish he wouldn't lie.
I guess he wouldn't have won the referendum or the election without his lies though.
nancy75 · 02/03/2020 22:07
They held a cobra meeting today & wouldn’t let Sadiq Khan attend.
I have no faith in Boris or his flunkies at all.
KenDodd · 02/03/2020 22:10
And I believe he's taking us out of the EU pandemic early warning cooperation thing.
nancy75 · 02/03/2020 22:12
Khan was on the news earlier, said he usually attends COBRA meetings but was told he wasn’t invited to this one.
No doubt if it spreads like wildfire across London Boris will be more than happy to blame Khan for it.
missyB1 · 02/03/2020 22:12
Dh is a hospital Consultant and bursts out laughing every time Boris and his cronies insist the NHS is ready and prepared to handle an epidemic. The hospital he works in has patients lining the corridors on trolleys every day as it is.
He has to laugh or he would cry.

Daily Mail link because they're the biggest Johnson/Brexit cheerleaders in case people think I'm just biased.
nancy75 · 02/03/2020 22:14
Yep, taken us out of the EU thing in order to maintain our ‘red lines’
That will teach those bloody Europeans, when we’ve all got the virus at least we’ll still have our blue passport to keep us going
nancy75 · 02/03/2020 22:16
Before this weren’t they busy removing NHS waiting time targets (because they were being missed more often than not)?
It doesn’t sound like an organisation ready to deal with an unprecedented global pandemic.
But hey, Boris said it would be fine...
KenDodd · 02/03/2020 22:21
I can't help thinking it will have crossed the minds of some in Downing Street that lots of high need (high cost) individuals will die.
Cwenthryth · 03/03/2020 02:24

Well, yes - but as dispicable as the Tories can be, I don’t think we can blame them for a novel virus originating in China. Whatever we do, however well prepared we are, sadly the fact is that people are going to die and already-vulnerable people health/care wise are going to be at higher risk.
The best I can say about Johnson on this though is it could be worse - have you seen what absolute lunacy Trump & his camp are coming out with? Watch Emily Maitlis’ interview on Newsnight tonight (Mon night) with a republican rep - sheer wilful, maniacal ignorance, it’s absolutely astounding. USA have tested less than 500 people so far (I believe we’ve tested over 13,000)? Bonkers I’m so glad I’m not in a US city right now. The apocalypse-bunker survivalists might have a point!
At least, whilst I don’t trust Johnson at all, I’m not worried that he has too much power and that he won’t just let the grown ups tell him what to do/say, because he’s really not that interested in the whole thing and would rather other people do the actual work.
Pixxie7 · 03/03/2020 02:48
Not a Boris fan at all can’t stand the bloke. However not sure anyone else would do a better job, but your right he needs to accept his limitations and get the experts involved.
Toomanygerbils · 03/03/2020 02:54
If the rumours are true and China messed about with one of the previously known Coronavirus strains in a lab are true, then of course Boris will be “all is fine here”. We need a trade deal after all since the one with Europe isn’t looking great
Cwenthryth · 03/03/2020 11:33
Just watched the live press conference with Johnson, the Chief Medical Officer & Chief Scientific Officer.
I think it was as reassuring as it could be - he consistently deferred to the experts. Nothing massively party political that I noticed (was a little distracted for some of it though).
I guess it doesn’t really matter if we trust him or not, he’s who we’ve got at the moment. I trusted the CMO & CSO.
RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 03/03/2020 21:22

He said what???!!! 😱
RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 03/03/2020 21:25
he consistently deferred to the experts
Thats a little more reassuring
KenDodd · 05/03/2020 08:03
My husband just tried to make me laugh by wondering if BJ will put Chris Grayling in charge of CV.
ThePlantsitter · 05/03/2020 08:09

You are still buying Johnson's crap. 'behind the scenes' my arse. Have you read COBR's report? It says absolutely nothing in very fancy language. Nothing. No wait, it says wash your hands.
