Stockpiling for coronavirus

Sorry if there's already been a thread on this, I did do a search!

I've got the coronavirus fear and feel like I should stock up. We don't have much room but we have got one cupboard we can use.

I'm thinking:

Paracetamol
Calpol
Toilet roll
Soap
Pasta
Rice
Frozen veggies

Am I bonkers to do this or is it sensible?

You can't keep frozen veg in a cupboard!

whatthehecksausages · 02/03/2020 11:42

@crustycrab 😂😂😂

picklebarrelfalls · 02/03/2020 11:42

Sensible to have a good two week stash to see you through quarantine but I do feel that it's irresponsible to start clearing aisles and being greedy with things that you don't need. There's definitely a balance.

ByAppointmentTo · 02/03/2020 11:43

Personally I think it's crazy. People stockpiling is leading to shortages which is making people panic. Just carry on as usual but maybe buy a few more store cupboard ingredients if that makes you feel better.

whatthehecksausages · 02/03/2020 11:44

I think sensible... probably because i've done it too! But it's stuff i'll always use anyway.

pasta sauces
part baked rolls
tinned soup/beans etc
bread for freezer
wipes/nappies if you have littles
chocolate. duh

MissSueFlay · 02/03/2020 11:45

I'm re-purposing my No Deal Brexit stash...

Elouera · 02/03/2020 11:48

How many more threads on stock piling does MN need??? Hmm

picklebarrelfalls · 02/03/2020 11:50

Elouera, it clearly states the topic in the title. Swipe to hide the thread. End of.

I shopped at the weekend and made sure we have enough to last 2 weeks in case anyone gets sick. Its not that much different to what we have normally but just a bit more organised in terms of knowing we can make complete meals and a bit more frozen veg than normal, rather than relying on picking up salad etc.

I'm not worried about the shops running out of food but just not being able to go to the shops and it being a bit more difficult to get a delivery.

MichaelMumsnet · 02/03/2020 11:52

Hi all, we've got a new Coronavirus topic so we'll be moving a few threads into it today.

vhs95 · 02/03/2020 11:57

Wine

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 02/03/2020 12:18

Yes we've been stockpiling a few things, not loads and loads, but we have a toddler so it's not really an option not be be prepared. I'm just talking a few weeks worth of food, making room in the freezer for 2 loaves of bread and a few cartons of milk. If he didn't have those there would be a few tantrums!

Funkycats · 02/03/2020 12:40

Go and have aook at the 'preppers' board. I think the prepping for pandemic threads with probably stay put there. All 9 of them. Also some good stockpiling topics on 'brexit' board Smile

DressingGownofDoom · 02/03/2020 12:48

My local Tesco was running v low on paracetamol, pasta, beans, bleach, antibacterial wipes, the big 16 roll packs of toilet roll today so other people are quietly stocking up. I got some calpol and paracetamol

Ijustneed · 02/03/2020 13:21

I'm stockpiling a few things, things I'll use anyway, but hopefully enough to see me through two weeks if I need to self isolate.

Paracetamol
Loo roll
Soap
Decongestants
Freezer full of usual food including veg, bread
Uht milk
Tins of soup and fruit
Pasta and rice and pasta sauces

Luunaa · 02/03/2020 14:19

Just back from the big Sainsburys. No paracetamol, no pasta. Very low on rice and toilet rolls

@crustycrab the first time in my life I can actually say I laughed out loud at a MN post, I'll be giggling to myself about that for a while 😂😂😂

OP, I've got rice, pasta, noodles, jars of sauces, tins of tomatoes, soup, cup of soups, part baked rolls, poppadoms and naan breads have a longer life than normal bread, crackers, peanut butter, normal butter, tuna, corned beef, plain flavour snacks, biscuits.
For meds, I got paracetamol, ibuprofen, throat lozenges.
Other bits: lots of toilet roll, dettol sprays and hand wash, and the dettol for the washing machine aswell

Donkeykong20 · 02/03/2020 18:53

Coffee aswell!

EnidBlyton · 02/03/2020 18:55

no hand gel in the two shops i looked in
i bought a large kitchen towel packet to dry my hands, so i can at least wash them and dry them

okiedokieme · 02/03/2020 19:14

It's crazy in Asda today, chopped tomatoes and flour are running low along with canned soup, noodles and other long life staples. As food can be delivered why worry?

CrunchyCarrot · 02/03/2020 19:15

I'd already stockpiled for Brexit so have just had to add a few more medical-related items in to mine as I still have it. Did a complete inventory check today so I know exactly how much of everything I have. I have special dietary needs so don't want to find I have nothing to eat!

Ulvie · 02/03/2020 20:42

I've topped up the Brexit stash. I think we're ok for about 5 weeks.

I got some of the last hand sanitisers, shelf was almost empty. They had sold out of ibuprofen though, is it manufactured in China or are people just stocking up?

Luunaa · 04/03/2020 17:47

Yes ibruprofen shelf was empty in Boots today.

Food can only be delivered if the drivers are at work and healthy and the food is available!

OP posts:
Nicepud · 04/03/2020 18:04

I'm fully stocked up for a very long time with food/tolietries/meds etc.

But today has prompted me to order all the things I need to sort our veg plot out. Just got to get the last carrots out and pickle the horde of beetroots before I can set it up ready for some more.

Also joined ww online as I know I drop to a certain weight my asthma disappears.
