Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

Entertainers are entitled to speak about politics - but not as a support act to someone else's show without asking their permission. There are plenty of other forums in which they can broadcast their views and they have a right to do so.

Absolutely! Hijacking someone's show and abusing their friendship so you can shout the bloody meaningless phrase 'Free Palestine' whilst taking their money is despicable. With friends like this twit, who needs enemies.

It is a hideous kind of bullying to suggest you either stand with the 'cause' or be cancelled. Reminds me of some of the trans stuff.

I wouldn’t say that asking for peace for everyone and saying that children shouldn’t be murdered should be a controversial take.

He did not say anything against the people of Gaza. Ed simply decided he didn't want a political dimension to a concert. It is simply bullying to not support musicians right to not get involved or wish to say silent. Maybe Ed does support the people of Gaza who knows but he made a moral decision to not have political statement at a gig and people should repect that.

It wasn’t a moral decision-it was a commercial one.

MissyB1 · Today 17:57

Sheeran is a hypocrite, and has made himself look like a right prick so only himself to blame.

ModernNV · Today 17:57

Absolutely no sympathy for Ed Sheeran. He's a coward and his silence on this has backfired spectacularly.

Nope, don't feel sorry for anyone that bows to an ultimatum made by a billionaire friend of Epstein and Netanyahu.

This.

It was a bit more clear cut who the aggressor was with Ukraine and maybe there was less chance if offending Russians. I guess as a Jew if you were chanting statements associated with the abortion of your religious homeland you might feel intimidated (and a lot of Jews are).

Did you actually hear Macklemores speech? He made a point that this is not a criticism of Jewish people.

Also he did acknowledge conflict in other parts of the Middle East and Africa.

To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality. So I say Free Palestine, I say Free Lebanon, I say Free Cuba, I say Free Congo, Free Sudan, I say Free all people in America living in fear of this terrorist organisation, ICE. None of us will be free until we are all free.”

So why was he dressed in a caricatured costume of a Jewish person with a hook nose etc

DeterminedRat · Today 18:16

I feel sorry for the children living in rubble without enough food, clean water and medical care. The 1000s of children who have been orphaned, some have lost their entire families. I feel sorry the children who have no choice in any of this.

I don't feel sorry for a multimillionaire who had a choice, made it and is now facing the consequences of that choice.

Huge respect for Macklemore.
anyone who knows his music would be less than thrilled if he didn’t speak up about social and political issues.

Have a look at the other thread about this with Macklemore dressed in 'jew face' doing a Nazi salute. That doesn't help him make any point especially credible.

That was 12 years ago, not at the time of making that speech.

Not that it’s in good taste, either way - but wasn’t sure if you were aware that it was at separate times

He wasn’t doing a nazi salute.

He 100% dressed that way, but a quick google shows the salute didn’t happen.

Pinkissmart · Today 18:25

But if Ed cancelled, he would have let down fans, his crew, literally hundreds of people relying on him for his income.

Macklemore was a shit friend to put him in that position. The world isn’t entitled to know what Ef thinks about the genocide in Gaza.

No one here is condoning something he did 12 years ago that he has since apologised for, said it was unintentional and linked to an anti Semitic site on his website following it.

What this thread is discussing is his recent speech in which he ensured he made a point that being against an ongoing genocide and the murder of innocent children isn’t being against Jewish people. There are many Jewish people who speak out against this genocide.

Is the photo AI then? Looked like he was to me, although he could be like Elon Musk and just waving to the crowd.

Not in good taste?! It’s vehemently antisemitic
sheeran and team either did no due diligence or don’t care
who’d want to be associated with that and the nazi salute he’s giving

Smartiepants79 · Today 18:33

I agree. He has no way of winning this one. The situation in the Middle East is so incredibly complex. Very few people can give a fully educated opinion. I know I can’t.
And he’s perfectly entitled to keep his opinions (on any subject) private if he so wishes. Many entertainers choose to do the same thing. Dolly Parton for example is famous for doing so. He has been made the fall guy.

It's not a Nazi salute it's clearly a dance move the other person in the picture has the same hand actions and body turned in the same direction

Yeah - I’ll ignore the costume, the caricatured nose and his views
no antisemitism to see here 👌

Morepositivemum · Today 18:37

If you read Pink’s statement it wasn’t the free Palestine it was Macklemore dressing up as a Jew onstage. People jumped on ed and pink as people do nowadays without reading the small print, Macklemore even apologised because he realised it was wrong

Costume and nose clearly are an issue. If his views don't match with yours then nothing can be done about that.

I don’t really get the point in conflating these two issues.

So because Macklemore did that 12 years ago we and Ed Sheeran aren’t allowed to be against an ongoing genocide?

No-one is bullying Ed. He has taken a stand, and others have too. It so happens he's on the opposite side of the other acts.
It's fine for him to hold his position, and in doing so, carry on with his concerts solo - completely non-political.
He may find he doesn't need supporting acts after all 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Pabbel · Today 18:41

Ed has every right to keep politics out of his music and concerts, i hope his tour carries on.
