Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

I'm with Ed on this, I've conciously opted not to follow Isreal/palestine politics or to have an opinion on it (as hard as that is, but I certainly don't express one). If the world leaders with all their collective knowledge and experience can't figure out what the hell to do with the place, then how am I, or Ed, meant to.

This is situation is ridiculous.

Nope, disagree.

Were Jews persecuted unfairly in recent history? Yes.

Was that abhorrent? Of course it was.

Does that give Jewish people the right to terrorise and kill their way to a “homeland”? NO

Almost everyone has nothing against Jews, couldn’t care less what they do or who they worship.

Zionists?? That’s a different story given they’re killing kids to do their “god given right”.

Two things can exist - we can be anti antisemitism and against violent colonialism under the guise of “bible” instructions.

We have to be.

Almost all Jews are Zionists. Zionism is about self-determination.

You paint Palestine as the eternal victim and Israel as the eternal aggressor, as if everything would have been absolutely fine for Israeli and other middle-Eastern jews if they'd just always been perfect. Anyone with any degree of good faith would accept that that is not the case.

This is why I don't want to listen to bigoted people at a concert wang on about Gaza. They're ill informed and frankly often quite rabid.

Hamas arent exactly the model victims here IMHO...but that's just me. No oppression in other countries in the middle East of course according to the bible of the Palestinian fall waving zealous.

What about the innocent 5 yo girl, her 6 family members and the 2 paramedics who tried to rescue her that Macklemore dedicated his song to? Are they good enough victims for you?

...or maybe the premature babies who were locked in a hospital and left to starve to death alone? Did they deserve it?

Some people simply will not accept that what is happening in Gaza is a genocide despite all that their eyes and ears tell them. It's unfathomable.

But will the same people be ok with a dodgy billionaire - who Ed sang for at his wedding for £££ no doubt - clamping down on free speech? What Macklemore said was not hate speech, nowhere near it. A rich old fucker didn't like it, and Ed bowed down to the mighty dollar instead of defending the right of artists to free speech.

And don't get me started on Galway Girl.

As you're not in Gaza, your eyes and ears are not telling you anything of the sort. Other people are telling you, and much of what they're saying is untrue. And much of what is true is what happens in all wars - there is no such thing as a war that had no crimes committed during it. That doesn't make all wars wrong. Hamas are torturing and murdering anyone in Gaza who wants peace - and where is Greta Thunberg now?

Speaking of Greta, you know that some of the "Sumud Flotilla" people are STILL in custody in Tunisa months after the ones who got to Israel returned home?

Tunisia extends 'Sumud 4' flotilla activists' detention to 10 months, little international outcry

Why does nobody care about them? Was it only when Israel was involved?

”They didn’t have to do it”

Have you any idea what happened in the decades till then? Any idea?

How they (the Palestinian people) had tried diplomacy, how they had tried negotiation, how they had pleaded and pleaded with the international community for political support or sanctions with no one answering their pleas as their children were shot and penned into certain areas? They. Were. Desperate.

I do not think October 7th was justified, I don’t. But a cursory look over human behaviour over the centuries tells us that eventually, if you treat a group of people very badly over a period of time - they will revolt. They will fight back.

Don’t call people terrorists for fighting back against terrorists.

One group of those terrorists have a lot of billionaires on their side, it’s not a fair fight.

The rest of us with a brain and a conscience are on the other side.

There were indeed a lot of Hamas multi millionaires, keeping aid meant for their people in bank accounts in Qatar. Sad.

No Jews no news. Who cares what Tunisia does.

LivelyGreyCat · Today 22:34

Because some people actually stick to their morals and have spines to speak out for the oppressed. It’s not about the money for everyone.

stargirl27 · Today 22:35

I can’t say I care about Ed Sheeran or his tour. There’s already a thread on this also.

Also, have accidentally seen him live 3 times (and I rarely attend concerts) and must say he isn’t very good.

mids2019 · Today 22:40

Well looks like Ed is carrying on. Simple statement that deaths in both side of the conflict are a tragedy which is fair enough...a lot more people can relate to that than at Semitic call to disassemble Israel (Free Palestine).

I am sure that are going to be rabid pro Palestinians calling him an Israeli schill....
