This is a brilliant article.

This will be taught in schools one day and our grandkids will ask us but what did you do when you knew this was happening?

What did you do during the genocide in Gaza? | Arwa Mahdawi

When future generations read about Gaza with horror and wonder how we allowed a livestreamed genocide to happen, what will you say?

Quite!

Its shocking how many defend what is happening there, the deliberate killing of the Palestinians is off the scale, way worse than in Ukraine in terms of civilian deaths.

"Lest we forget" nonsense...

Hruth · 22/05/2025 22:13

I posted repeatedly on mumsnet [proud]

Odras · 22/05/2025 23:01

I mostly post on mumsnet!

I did make sure to take my kids to a march and we attend many solidarity events for this very reason. I want them to know, in the future, we didn’t ignore it. That we do small things…

Due to our governments we are all tainted and we should speak up.

your right @Alexandra2001 the double standard is glaring. Human rights matter but only when convenient, only if powerful allies aren’t upset. Some lives are worth more apparently.

PurpleChrayn · 22/05/2025 23:15

I didn’t fall for Hamas propaganda or spread blood libels.

Martymcfly24 · 22/05/2025 23:18

I have attended protests and listened to speakers.
Taught my children about it.
Spoke to Palestinians in a Palestine food cafe
Donated to Uisce for Gaza (provides clean water to Gaza)

And posted on Mumsnet.

Great article by the way @ssd

I did not adjust the meaning of the word "genocide" in order to make myself feel better about the.fact that losing a war or winning one has never been pretty.

I also did not act like Gazans.were the only sufferers of losing a war in that time period.

StrikeForever · 22/05/2025 23:21

I raged about it, emailed my MP, posted about it all over the the place and argued with those defending the slaughter on Mumsnet.

mids2019 · 22/05/2025 23:49

I argued Hamas were the bad guys......told my children instigating incidents of mass terrorism on innocent teenagers at festivals tends not to end well

Lolapusht · 23/05/2025 00:00

I did some independent research and didn’t jump on the Free Palestine Bandwagon

JaneJeffer · 23/05/2025 00:16

I’ve always wondered what would happen if the real names of those defending Israel were revealed. Would they still stand by what they’ve said knowing it was public knowledge?

Really good point.

TiramasuAlways · 23/05/2025 00:21

Well I definitely lost all respect and sympathy for Israel and I have some 'interesting conversations' with some ardent Zionists.

Nice. Love the way you justified the deaths of 52,000 people to your children.

i’m curious. Did they have any questions? Children have such a natural sense of justice. What did you say about starving children to death? Did you explain that some people deserve life more than other people?

drasticdonkey · 23/05/2025 00:22

I don’t know too much detail and am sick of the arguing. Didn’t hamas kill a bunch of innocent people? that’s what triggered this?

the gunman in USA yesterday hasn’t done much to help the situation.

Same. Simple use of intellect, logic and sense that seems to be lacking in this particular conflict. No surprise why.

I also did a lot of research and thought it was a great tragedy and a stain on humanity that the world’s leaders and the UN stood by for decades and did nothing while Palestinians were indoctrinated into wanting to kill Jewish people and abused as pawns in a religious war, kept as perpetual refugees and a multi billion $ industry was created from their suffering.

I also researched Benjamin Netanyahu quite extensively and decided he is a great and genuine leader unlike the pathetic puppets we have in much of the Western world (Trump excluded).

You're suggesting doxxing?
Irl people know my views, face to face most people I know can have a measured exchange of views without resorting to threats, intimidation and hyperbole.

JaneJeffer · 23/05/2025 00:27

No @quantumbutterflyi am not suggesting doxxing just to be clear

What are you suggesting then?

You seem to have been suggesting some kind of judgement/consequences.

I can add myself to this. I just worked off the facts.I don’t even look at propaganda.

Sounds like a backtrack to me.

What has history got to do with the RL names of Israel supporters being public knowledge?

I did.

More propaganda.

The only live-streamed genocide happened in Israel on Oct 7th. What’s happening in Gaza is a war.

I see you still didn’t answer my question though.

PaulKnickerless · 23/05/2025 01:15

All civilians, Palestinian and Israeli, should be able to live their lives in peace and safety.

The Israeli government are committing crimes against humanity. Starving of innocent civilians is absolutely terrible and should be stopped immediately. Hamas should not get away with their actions either - they are a terrorist organisation. The taking of hostages and brutal killings, use of civilians as human shields, are their doing.
