US confirms plan for private firms to deliver Gaza aid despite UN alarm

The US has confirmed that a new system for providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through private companies is being prepared, as Israel's blockade continues for a third month.

US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said "distribution centres" protected by security contractors would provide food and other supplies to over a million people initially, as part of an effort to prevent Hamas stealing aid.

He denied Israel would take part in aid delivery or distribution, but said its forces would secure the centres' perimeters.

It comes as details emerged about the controversial plan, which UN agencies have reiterated they will not co-operate with because it appears to "weaponize" aid.

The UK have stated that they oppose Israel's model of aid distribution as mentioned in the OP.

Let me be crystal clear, this government opposes Israel’s model for aid. We believe it does not respect humanitarian principles. It cannot deliver aid effectively at speed or scale required. It’s wrong, and it’s dangerous to the humanitarian system.

That's in reference to the proposed new method of aid distribution I believe. Not the aid distributed by the UN.

Yes, in reference to the new system that was mentioned in your opening post.

Twiglets1 · 20/05/2025 15:56

Indeed.

I'm assuming the 100 trucks of aid will be distributed under the original system.

Lets hope this is the start of the UN getting the green light to get in and deliver the food it has.

Odras · 20/05/2025 17:55

I wonder how you would organise the distribution of 1/6 of the amount of aid that is needed in one day when there has been no deliveries in weeks.

Potential for disaster.

sualipa · 20/05/2025 17:56

We need the UN + a coalition of the willing now to go in and stabilsie the situation and get food and medicine to the Gazans. Via Egypt if needs be and NOW.

This isn't about being optimistic or not, it is about basic health and safety and the need for proper planning and risk assessment to ensure people can get access to aid without a stampede or chaos. The region has been starved of aid for weeks. This needs to be a properly planned distribution with organisations that are experienced in how to do it. From what I can see from posters here is that their primary concern is for the wellbeing of innocent civilians. Not sure why you need to be so dismissive of these realistic concerns.

Israel control the Egyptian border into Gaza. It's a good idea but there's no way they will allow them in and witness the genocide.

Even Trump's fed up now. If he wills it he could make it happen and do something good for the world.

A White House official told Axios the president was upset by pictures of suffering children and babies in Gaza and pressed the Israelis to reopen the gates.

@ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend because it's 100 trucks of aid and it's being received by the UN so I would have thought that is reason for cautious optimism.

The monster must go.

If you read Israeli news, you’ll understand why the West changed positions on 🇮🇱

Israeli President Herzog is attempting to push Netanyahu into retirement due to growing resentment inside Israel.

The genocide will be pinned on Netanyahu and the genocidal state will gain praise.

Trump is fed up of Israel because they take, take and take some more but never give anything back. Trumps a very transactional guy and Israel are used to being everything for nothing. Trump couldn't give a crap about starving children, he is just sick of seeing all of his money being wasted to kill and starve them when a ceasefire could have done and dusted months ago.

You can be cautiously optimistic but still raise concerns about how it will all pan out. As I said I don't think your sarcastic response to a poster expressing their concerns was called for.

Right-winger Moshe Feiglin, who previously served as a Likud MK and a member of the Zehut party, was interviewed on Channel 14's morning show and made a harsh statement: "Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy." He made the claim in no uncertain terms. "Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy," Feiglin began, and continued to explain: "The enemy is not Hamas, nor is it the military wing of Hamas, as our military commander tells us, that we are forbidden to harm a Hamasnik unless he is part of the military wing." At this point, Feiglin reiterates: "Every child in Gaza is the enemy. We need to occupy Gaza and settle it, and not a single Gazan child will be left there. There is no other victory."

You’re right—I just looked him up after seeing this pop up on my X feed. I honestly don’t know if he’s just a lone extremist or if he actually has a following within Israel that believes in what this dangerous man is saying. He seems to be to the right of Netanyahu which takes some doing.

UN agencies in Gaza confirmed on Thursday that desperately needed aid has finally arrived at warehouses inside the enclave after an 11-week blockade by Israeli authorities.

“Today will be crucial. Truckloads of lifesaving aid finally on move again,” said top UN aid relief coordinator Tom Fletcher.

Hours earlier and in a major development, 198 trucks entered Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing in the south of the enclave, carrying nutrition supplies, medicines and wheat flour.

Article in The Telegraph today: Hamas fighters ‘not paid for three months’ because of Israeli aid block

Hamas has not paid its fighters for three months due to Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid preventing the group seizing and selling supplies, according to reports.

Members of the al-Qassam brigades, Hamas’ military wing, have not received any pay since around February, a source from within the terror group told the London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.

Hamas’s civil workers were said to have received a reduced salary equivalent of $250 four months ago, which “sparked resentment among employees”. It is not clear if they have been paid since.

Moumen Al-Natour, a Palestinian lawyer from the Al-Shati camp in central Gaza, told the Wall Street Journal last month that the cash-strapped terror group had “a big crisis” on its hands.

Today’s Washington post provides more information about the plan.
The Gazans are to be locked into compounds containing tens of thousands of people. They plan to make the starving people give their biometric data to the private foundation and the Gazans will get food in exchange. The private force will have guns.Gaza will be under continuous drone surveillance from a remote location. The aid will be sourced from donors ( not Israel the occupier) and distributed from hubs . The IDF are promising to stay 1000 feet (approximately 300m ) from the hubs but will continue to occupy the rest of the enclave indefinitely.

The planners were concerned that their plan could be perceived as “concentration camps with biometrics” according to WP report. Many reputable people are seeking to distance themselves from the plan and its CEO is struggling to find experienced partners . The Israeli government wishes to distance itself from the foundation and spin the operation as US led. A shell company to that effect appears to have been created headed by the ex CIA guy, Phil Reilly ( presumably Irish American) and the CEO is David Burke (ditto).
