US confirms plan for private firms to deliver Gaza aid despite UN alarm

The US has confirmed that a new system for providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through private companies is being prepared, as Israel's blockade continues for a third month.

US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said "distribution centres" protected by security contractors would provide food and other supplies to over a million people initially, as part of an effort to prevent Hamas stealing aid.

He denied Israel would take part in aid delivery or distribution, but said its forces would secure the centres' perimeters.

It comes as details emerged about the controversial plan, which UN agencies have reiterated they will not co-operate with because it appears to "weaponize" aid.

Even Trump is rumored to be wavering. Netanyahu is dismantling Israel more effectively than Hamas ever could—perhaps that was the plan all along: to bring the house down on everyone, like Samson did but for the Philistines this time. When you lose America you have lost.

This is really interesting overview of everything we have been talking about.

I think there will be enough aid that their neighbors will help.
Also, Hamas is the government, they should organize something.

Eh? I think you haven't understood what's happening.

What do you think happens in any other war, or is this one held in completely different regard to you? If so, why?

Surely people pull together and help each other in a war?

What about the so called non-bias NGOs and UN or do you agree with their stance on having no involvement in distributing this aid, because it was organised by Israel/the US to prevent Hamas using it for their war goals and control of the population they have already caused thousands of deaths of, so leaving the people you describe to starve?

The distribution of aid has been taken away from the UN, that's the whole point!!

Because it was going from the UN to Hamas to be sold for $$ to Gazans.
The money was then used to line Hamas pockets/pay the wages.

Too right and with good reason, but they’re there so you are staying they should stand by and not assist in getting disabled people, with no family, food because they are pissed off that they can’t let Hamas steal it?

How on earth can they do that when they are not allowed to be in any way involved in distribution? Are you just thinking they can barge in and take it and then distribute it as they think fit?
And remember UN workers and their families are also starving - they will need to queue and fight for food for their own families. Anything with this level of control, on top of months of starvation, creating desperation and anarchy (quite apart from Hamas) is never going to allow an equitable distribution of food - flooding the region with an excess would have been the only (and by no means perfect) way to reduce the monetisation of aid and provide some hope of reducing hunger for all.

That's 2 shows in a row Mr Morgan has mentioned genocide, he said it too on yesterday's show during the debate between Benny Morris and Norman Finkelstein.

As a slippery character that always lands on his feet despite numerous scandals, it's notable that like the authors that signed an open letter today that he is so openly jumping ship.

She doesn't like "miscegenation" - haven't seen that word used since apartheid days or the deep south of the USA during the pre civil rights era.

While a member of the Knesset's Committee on the State of Women and Gender Equality in 2011, she invited representatives from Lehava (Prevention of Assimilation in the Holy Land), an anti-miscegenation group whose primary objective is to oppose assimilation of Jews and which objects to any personal or business relationships between Jews and non-Jews,[6][7] to a discussion of the tactics used by the organization to prevent romantic relationships between Jews and Arabs. Hotovely defended her decision at the time, saying, "it is important to me to check systems to prevent mixed marriages, and Lehava are the most suitable for this" .

She says the quiet part out loud, though it does fit in with a lot of Netanyahu's supporters. It's open supremacy and I agree language like that has not been seen since apartheid and segregation.

Chilling stuff. Last year she said that the allies had killed 600,000 civilains in WW2 - sounded like a target rather than a statement. In an ideal world she would be sanctioned and unable to travel - instead she is the Israeli ambo to the UK.

Well I don’t like Piers. He’s an awful bully but it’s hard to feel sorry for his victim this time.

Interesting that all the lines of the ambassador are the exact same arguments we see here. Like robots.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so serious. She doesn’t realise how batshit crazy she sounds to the average Joe soap.

You’re totally right.

She probably is. She has certainly some radical beliefs.

Tough number being the Israeli ambassador to anywhere these days. There were aspects of “comical Ali” about that interview. If you remember him from the Iraqi war.

Agree, I read it as, "shut up Western leaders, you did this, so we can do it too!"

Ironically American WW2 General Curtis Lemay famously said after bombing Japan ""If we had lost the war, we would all have been prosecuted as war criminals".

There's an official handbook on "public diplomacy"

https://mondediplo.com/2024/05/03hasbara

"Israel has always excelled in hasbara (propaganda), portraying itself as the victim of the wicked Arabs and spreading fake news that is only debunked after it has done its damage. France-Soir, relying on a report from Tel Aviv, announced at dawn on 5 June 1967 that Egypt had attacked Israel (contrary to the truth). Decades later, when Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was killed at Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank on 11 May 2022, the IDF initially claimed she had probably been killed by ‘terrorists’, then that she had been ‘caught in crossfire’. Only later did they admit that an Israeli soldier had, unintentionally, fired five bullets in her direction. Several investigations, including one by CNN, concluded that she was probably killed deliberately. Her case received exceptional publicity because of her US citizenship and renown."

You’ve had media training? Aren’t you conscious of all the propaganda that Hamas & their supporters spin in that case?

And you know, people on the pro Palestine side all sound the same too - saying the same lines over and over.

Propaganda in war time is very real as you will know with your media training and both sides do it. And then others repeat it, sometimes mindlessly.

@MissyB1 @Sleepinggreyhounds Currently the UN is able to distribute aid alongside the new system:

Israel ended an 11-week long aid blockade on Gaza 10 days ago following international pressure but so far only the GHF and the UN has been allowed to deliver the food and supplies.

UN Middle East envoy Sigrid Kaag told the Security Council that the amount of aid Israel had so far allowed the UN to deliver was “comparable to a lifeboat after the ship has sunk”

Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon told the Security Council that Israel would allow aid deliveries “for the immediate future”.

However, Israel ultimately wants the UN to work through the GHF, which is using private US security and logistics companies to transport aid into Gaza for distribution by civilian teams at so-called secure distribution sites.

“The UN should put their ego aside and cooperate with the new mechanism,” Mr Danon told reporters before the council meeting.

The UN and other international aid groups have refused to work with the GHF because they say the plan is not neutral.

Statement from the UN World Food Programme yesterday confirming that "hordes of hungry people" broke into their warehouse in central Gaza yesterday, "in search of food supplies that were pre positioned for distribution". It goes on to say "initial reports indicate two people died and several were injured in the tragic incident".

From the Telegraph article: Eyewitness video independently verified by Reuters showed large crowds of people pushing into the warehouse and removing bags and boxes while gunfire could be heard in the background.

Doctors at al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah reported that two people died after being crushed by the crowd and two more people were shot dead. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the gunfire.

I read reports yesterday that Hamas were shooting at Gazans breaking into the warehouse but this article does not state that.

I think this is the most comprehensive break down of what actually happened and how it unfolded.

No aid has been allowed in the north of Gaza.

"It seems to be facilitating military objectives of Israel, which is to forcibly displace people to the south of Gaza," says Mr Rose.
"This is a plan that would require an elderly woman to travel 30km through an active warzone to pick up a parcel of food. It's completely abhorrent in terms of what it's reducing people to," he says.

Whatsinanamehey · 29/05/2025 08:50

Honestly, it's fucking awful.

Twiglets1 · 29/05/2025 08:52

Some things in the article are factual but some are just opinion. It’s important not to confuse the two.
