Conflict in the Middle East

One of the highest daily death rates for children 18th March

rentmum · 19/03/2025 09:37

On March 18, 2025, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza resulted in over 400 Palestinian deaths, including 174 children, according to health authorities in Gaza.
The Guardian
This tragic event represents one of the highest single-day child death tolls in recent conflicts.

For context, during the Ukraine conflict between February 2022 and June 2023, an average of three children were killed or injured daily, with March 2022 being the deadliest month, recording over 240 child fatalities and 260 injuries.
Save the Children UK
This indicates that the single-day child casualties reported in Gaza on March 18, 2025, are significantly higher than those documented in Ukraine during its most lethal periods.

Similarly, over the past decade, conflicts worldwide have resulted in an average of 25 child casualties per day, encompassing both deaths and injuries.
Save the Children International
The 174 child deaths reported in Gaza on March 18, 2025, starkly exceed this daily average, underscoring the exceptionally high child casualty rate on that day.

In summary, the child fatalities reported in Gaza on March 18, 2025, are among the highest recorded in a single day in recent conflicts, highlighting the severe impact on children in this escalation.

Welcome to MN.

The number of deaths of innocent children is awful.

We have a leader of Israel saying he needs to have all of his kidnapped citizens currently held as hostage released immeadiately and also eradicate Hamas to protect his people and a terrorist organisation that run Gaza who took and continue to hold hostages who have wrecked their country. In the middle are innocent people.

Now involved is the POTUS who makes rash statements and threats. The whole situation is a mess.

Meanwhile, there is a war in Ukraine with Trump and Putin attempting to carve up a country and its minerals.

Then there is Sudan with a massive genocide and thousands of people dying with an ongoing genocide.

Yeman. Syria. Lebanon. There is a growing list. Each one involving innocent children. Humans are horrible to each other, whether due to land, religion, culture differences, colour, etc. The whole world is a mess. I wish humans were kinder.

However, we all only hold so much and so tend to pick the conflicts, areas, or people we have similarities to, to focus on. Perhaps one of the reasons why so few comments on each conflict.

Your response is shocking.

The op posted a factual post about Israel murdering the most amount of children in one night in any recent conflict.

174 children.

So Israel is just trying to protect it's citizens and Hamas has wrecked the country. The narrative is failing when Israel launch a surprise middle of the night attack on bloody children and broke a ceasefire to do it.

Disgusting.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 19/03/2025 12:02

I don’t even know how to convey how appalled I am at this latest development.

💔 for the children and people in Gaza, for the hostages, for their families, for everyone who deserves to live in peace. What the fuck.

litlleblueridinghood · 19/03/2025 12:14

This could stop tomorrow if Hamas stuck to the deal and released the hostages.

No. Israel is the one who has not stuck to the deal, Israel have broken this ceasefire, Israel.

This is a war on children, how many hundreds and hundreds of children killed to take out two or three Hamas members? Netanyahu's time will come, for sure it will come.

I said too many innocents dying. Yes it's awful no doubt about it.

Its quite possible to condemn both sides you know.

Not sure why you take umbrage with 'a terrorist organisation that run Gaza who took and continue to hold hostages who have wrecked their country.' This conflict wouldn't even be happening if October 7th hadn't occurred.

It clearly pointless posting on these threads, avoiding is best.

On a thread about 174 children murdered in a couple of hours there is no place for whataboutery.

Avoiding probably is best for everyone.

How can we believe Hamas figures? Can we believe their footage? Why won’t Hamas return the hostages? Why haven’t Egypt and other nearby countries taken any refugees from Gaza? What does it do to the Jewish psyche, having tiny babies returned dead, and adult hostages returned starving, bearing in mind the ABSOLUTE trauma and genocide of the Holocaust they were subject to by Nazi Germany? Why is there no uproar about the massacres happening in Syria, including of babies and children? Why are babies being starved by the Yemeni government with no outrage and upset? What is Israel supposed to do when an entire society wants their annihilation, to the extent that they bring up their children to want this, and even have ‘martyrdom’ of their children as an aspiration? I don’t know. :-(

Great post it managed to have every single one of the Israeli.propaganda denials in one . very comprehensive.

Now did those 174 children deserve to be blown to smithereens?

LoyalAquaOtter · 20/03/2025 07:32

Some of the replies on a thread about 174 children killed in one day include not a single mention of the dead children. Not one. Have we become so used to the mass killings of Palestinians that for some they aren't even seen as important enough to warrant a mention on a thread about them?

These news stories were posted on another thread but I think they deserve a mention here too
https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025/03/18/irish-based-surgeon-loses-four-family-members-in-israeli-airstrike-on-gaza/

Dr Mahmoud Abumarzouq, who works as a surgeon in Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan, Co Meath, said he was awaiting news on the condition of his sister Seham, who was in intensive care.
Her teenage boys, Mohamed and Refat, were killed alongside her daughters, Dinna and Noor, whose three-day-old baby daughter Yaqout was badly injured and was taken to intensive care.

Layan had been "so excited" to start grade 11 on Tuesday, but an Israeli airstrike ended her life the same day.

These aren't just numbers. Layan, Omar, Mohamed, Rafat. Little baby Yaqout 3 days old fighting for her life. They deserve to have their names spoken and to be remembered. When you see headlines of huge numbers of children killed every single one of them was an individual with their own dreams for the future, loved and cherished by their families. They are so much more than a number.

"Welcome to MN. The number of deaths of innocent children is awful."

"I said too many innocents dying. Yes it's awful no doubt about it."

I'll repeated again. I believe no innocent children should die. It is absolutely tragic. Horrendous. I wish the conflict would end.

Saying that doesn't make it stop. Calls for the release of all living and deceased hostages might. Though not sure Hamas care. Calls for Israel to call a ceasefire and suggest hamas locate the hostages and bodies might. It looks like hamas are going to ignore any requests and leave their people to it whilst they polish their guns and do their laundry waiting for the next hostage release party. Fiddle while Rome burns. Behaviour like Nero in ancient times. Calls for Israel and hamas to come to the table might. I wish a wall could be erected between Gaza and Israel and both could just concentrate on their people and get on with their separate lives.

Only one government carpet bombing children in their sleep.

And if they are hiding in tunnels why are the IDF dropping bombs on houses for displaced refugees... Surely the most moral army in the world wouldn't be targeting citizens.( A war crime - add it to the rap sheet)

Scirocco · 20/03/2025 08:25

Could people please not use terms like shitrags to describe the bodies of my and others' loved ones, friends, colleagues, and their families...

Do your research it was Israel who didn't stick to the deal. And you are very naive if you believe Israel will stop killing Palestinians.
