How will Trump deal with the conflict in the middle east?

Thoughts? I noticed towards the last leg of his campaign he kept repeating he will end wars, which could also have won him some votes. Personally, I'm sceptical on his ability to improve the situation but I would like to be hopefully proved wrong. I also find it a little frightening that he was voted back in despite his past record of some of the horrible things he has said and done, but this is what the majority of Americans want.

He has already been congratulated by Netanyahu

"Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America," says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Whilst I think Trump will be a strong supporter of Israel, I don't think Netanyahu will be able to play him like a fiddle as much as he did with Biden. Unless he just heaps on the excessive praise which might just work.

You can't read anything into that statement. All allies will send warm statements and reassert the nature of their relationship with the US. And no Netanyahu did not play Biden like a fiddle, that just misrepresents the US/Israel relationship, with nice little dog whistle thrown in.

I wasn't reading into it, just stating what he said.

Bloody hell Sharon, not everything is a dog whistle. Netanyahu most certainly did play Biden and in the end Biden reportedly had quite a few choice words for him.

In one tirade, Biden reportedly said: 'That son of a bi*h, Bibi Netanyahu, he's a bad guy. He's a bad f*king guy!'

Outgoing US President Joe Biden hurled accusations of lying at Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and swore at him behind his back, a bombshell new book has claimed.

Also alleged to have called him 'a bad f**King liar'

Give Israel a load of massive weapons so they can obliterate Gaza and the rest of the Palestinian Territories?

Whatsinanamehey · 06/11/2024 09:47

Hamas so far have reacted with:

Donald Trump's claims that he will end wars across the world very soon into his presidency will be put to the test now, a senior Hamas official has said.
The official told the Reuters news agency that Trump should "learn" from the "mistakes" of Joe Biden, who has supported Israel in its war against Hamas.
The official also said the Democrat's apparent crushing loss this morning is the natural price for their leadership's "criminal stance" in Gaza

Two world leaders who have known each other a long time disagreed and had a great big bust up about a catastrophic war, not lesst because one of them is an asshole, doesn't mean one was playing the other. Given the state of the discourse I just wouldn't say that because it is a trope that is regularly rolled out. That doesn't bother you, that's, of course up to you, but don't pretend its not there.

Actually, Trump is likely to do exactly the opposite. Predictions are he will pressure Israel into winding up the war. One of the reasons many Arab Muslims in the US turned out to vote for him

I think it could go either way, however, what trump says and what he does, doesn't always match up.
I also don't know how he thinks he can magically end the conflict.

He can cause a lot of problems for Israel by pulling funding for the war for a start

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 06/11/2024 10:07

Trump does not support Israel or Palestine, he is for the US. It is probably in the US's interests for the war to stop, but they make money from arms sales.

Feck knows what he will do, it may be one heck of a curve ball.

Echobelly · 06/11/2024 10:16

I think Trump will let and encourage Netanyahu to do whatever the hell he wants, which is not good news for anyone.

EasterIssland · 06/11/2024 10:34

Republicans In the past have blocked aid money to Israel. Not because they don’t agree with them but because they want to invest in the Mexican border wall. So I would expect less aid funding for Israel from now on

however trump doesn’t like Palestinians either. He actually used Palestinian word as an attack against Biden or Harris can’t remember who he was referring to.

so , imo nothing will improve much. But , it’d not have improved either if Harris had won

Yup, there's huge banners going up in Jerusalem congratulating trump with the caption 'make Israel great' his win is definitely positive there.

It doesn't bode well.

Do have data? A few banners suggest its positive for some people there. Or they are hoping it is.

Yeah, nobody knows what he will do. He might do what he said he would, he might not, nobody expects logic and consistency from him.
However, I disagree he cares a bit about the US. He only ever cares about himself.

Possibly. Biden also pushed for a deal, believing there was one to be done, Netanyahu wasn't interested. Trump's got a better relationship with both Netanyahu and some of the leaders in the middle east and their interest in Palestine has waned considerably so I don't think it's looking promising for Palestinians.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/11/2024 12:41

I honestly think he will pour petrol on the whole thing and make it 100 times worse. Even if he was in his right mind (which, given his recent 'speeches', I don't think he is), he lacks the intelligence, wisdom and statecraft to solve the situation, and every instinct of his will just make things worse, imo.

Hamas leadership are dumb as bricks.

More than half of Arab Americans are Christians - somewhere between 63 and 77 per cent according to the Arab American Institute. It would be interesting to find out their reasons for voting the way they have. Their perspectives might be different from Muslim Arab Americans.

He could.

He also hates Iran. Has no control over Iran who fund, arm and assist all the terrorists on the Middle East countries. I doubt he'll want Iran to become nuclear

Grandmasswagbag · 06/11/2024 16:00

I have a hope that he might actually massively reduce Israel's funding, because funding foreign wars is against his ideals. Might just be very optimistic of me. But as far as track records go, Trump is definitely no war mongerer. This is one area where I feel he could make improvements in the world. The environment will be f**ked, but he might be more positive in terms of world peace. I think he's good at dealing with the tyrants of the world (takes one to know one I suppose). Everyone needs to remember what Trump says isn't always what he actually does.
