It's on now. Awful.

Imagine if it was Glastonbury or Reading festivals. Just dancing and having fun.

Those pro Palestinian accounts need investigating then since supporting terrorists (who filmed themselves which proved it occurred) is illegal in the UK.

I agree

At the end it said the families were calling for a public enquiry and that some survivors are suing the Israeli Security services for their failures.
I think BN doesn't want a public enquiry.

He doesn't. But the Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav Miara is calling for one and she has opposed Netanyahu's position on this. If he doesn't approve it, then I would imagine the next Govt almost certainly will.

So Israel’s military was caught napping? I’m trying to understand how such military might was overcome because it was their ..what..day off??

From what I remember, didn't a soldier comment there was unusual activity from Gaza, and her superiors ignored her concerns. Israel seriously dropped the ball.

tothesea · 28/09/2024 15:09

I am not on one ‘side’ or the other. Watching this documentary was so upsetting but I only had to watch ..I could switch off and go back to my safe life..those people went through it. Hamas terrorists are disgusting hate filled savages.
I’ve done some reading today as I knew a little about the conflict but not enough. It’s incredibly complex and confusing and of course fault on all sides. Including the West for meddling.
I don’t feel any the wiser. So I’m back to wishing and hoping for peace and end to killing of innocents.

Hamas committed 1139 murders in their pogrom on 7 October

Israeli citizens = ~ 9.8m

ie ~0.012% of the population murdered in one day

Add the 251 hostages brings it to ~0.016% of the population murdered or taken hostage in one day.

Now apply those percentages to the UK population:

0.016% of 68million = 10,628

Hamas’ pogrom in Israel was the equivalent of over 10,000 UK citizens being brutally murdered or taken hostage in one day.

Last Night of the Proms: 6,000 people
Luton’s Kenilworth Rd stadium: 10,300 capacity
No 1 court Wimbledon 12,345 capacity

Imagine one of these events being attacked, and everyone present being brutally murdered or taken hostage. And the venue burnt down.

Here’s what 1000 people looks like, and what 10,000 people looks like.

This gives a perspective in how many. Awful

Interesting thank you.

tothesea · 28/09/2024 15:28

Listening to women is something those in power struggle with ..the world over.

quantumbutterfly · 28/09/2024 16:01

hamas certainly seem to enjoy silencing women...and men...and children...and the occasional friendly family pet.

EasternStandard · 28/09/2024 16:04

Back to Hamas This is their violence and terror.

I’m not sure if I’ll watch, maybe I can

I'm not disagreeing. But we are discussing a particular event that may have turned out very differently if the women soldiers were listened to.

quantumbutterfly · 28/09/2024 16:32

What alternative scenarios do you imagine?

Read the articles I linked.

rumblegrumble · 28/09/2024 16:46

I'd think I'd find it too distressing to watch, I'm still haunted by the images released at the time. But very happy it's being shown, and very surprised it's by the BBC. Sadly, I suspect the people that really should watch it probably won't.

OrangeBlossomBlue · 28/09/2024 16:48

Wow, I’m amazed the BBC is showing this. I’d all but given up on them.

tothesea · 28/09/2024 16:48

The alternative scenario I imagine would have been the women soldiers were listened to, intelligence was gathered, the Nova festival was cancelled and the Military were prepared for the attack.

EasternStandard · 28/09/2024 17:00

Reading those articles it seems Hamas were not seen as the terrifying prospect they turned out to be

That they are as their attacks show is still their responsibility

No one will think differently now (if they do not support terrorists)

On the bbc programme the festival attendees were saying they only found out where the festival was just before it went ahead. Did you watch it?

It was also mentioned that there were 30 breaches of the border fence, I believe also a beach invasion was reported elsewhere.

It was a failure of intelligence services, as was 9/11. Many terrorist attacks are thwarted by intelligence services around the world, we only hear about their failures, or complaints about heavy handed prevention.

We can see now very clearly (if we hadn't seen it many times before in our lifetimes) what hamas and their ilk will do when given half a chance.

The blame for these actions and consequences are at the feet of murderous jihadists.

This.

There is always threat and we do not know how many don’t happen due to security

Indeed. Even if one section was stopped there were so many different breaches of the border, by air, in boats, through the border fence, in various places.

The festival location wasn't planned more than a day or so before location details are last minute. To the terrorists the location was 'luck' they didn't plan that section of the attack. Film shows that the terrorists were surprised by a festival. They intended to attack the kibbutz.

There weren't 'just' hamas, there were other terrorists from other groups and also ordinary Palestinian men who joined in with the attacks. That's why hamas didn't know where all the hostages were kept, different people joined in and took hostages too.

Yes that's the report I referred to in my post.

EasternStandard · 28/09/2024 17:59

Can anyone put successful terrorist attacks in the context of how many are stopped?

I find it victim blaming to talk about dropping the ball

Those responsible for deaths and fear are the terrorists

tothesea · 28/09/2024 18:06

Are the people affected by Oct 7th allowed to criticise ?
The ignored female soldiers
..are they allowed to criticise?
Of course the terrorists are responsible for the deaths, rape and kidnapping.
Is it not possible to question why more wasn’t done to protect Israeli citizens by their government?
Can’t we discuss that without being accused of supporting terrorism?

RogersOrganismicProcess · 28/09/2024 18:14

Just watched it through, my heart goes out to all of those innocents there that day, their families and their loved ones. As a bereaved mother I know the pain of grieving for my child. Thankfully I was spared the agony of harm being inflicted upon her by another.

This thread is not the place for justification of any description. If you feel even the slightest inkling to do so, please lean into the discomfort of watching it through. Keep politics and (im)morals of war on the other threads. Allow this thread to acknowledge the heartache and devastating loss of these young lives.
