It's on now. Awful.

Imagine if it was Glastonbury or Reading festivals. Just dancing and having fun.

The clip I saw on the news was distressing enough

I don’t think I could watch the whole thing

I know that’s really cowardly

I watched the programme and cannot remember what they called them if not terrorists. What a ridiculous decision by the BBC were they worried the supporters of the terrorists would become upset 😡

I watched the interview on Newsnight with Victoria Derbyshire, Noam, girlfriend of David Newman, and Ben, a wonderful young man who helped a mother of three children to escape the Nova Music massacre. Considering English is their second language, these courageous young people told the audience what happened to them and their friends. But I don’t think you can describe in words alone the utter terror and carnage of the events of that day.

This is why I am pleased and surprised that the BBC Storyville commissioned this film, Surviving October 7th: We Will Dance Again. However painful and disturbing it is to watch. We need to remind the world of these atrocities and acknowledge the pain and suffering. I am sick and tired of watching these far-left activists marching in London shouting out their hateful, antisemitic remarks and this sick, false narrative of the oppressed and the oppressor. How we have allowed these hate marches to continue in central London and throughout the country is unforgivable. All the people who attend these marches are complicit in supporting and encouraging a terrorist organisation whose only priority is to murder every single Jew in Israel. This war isn’t about securing land for Palestinians; this is a hateful Islamic ideology. It is a religious war led by right-wing Islamic Jihadists and ironically supported by the far left in the West.

If you want to do something to help, I’d suggest you attend the communal memorial event on Sunday 6th October in Central London. The Board of Deputies of British Jews is organising the event. Let’s stand up to antisemitism, show our solidarity for humanity and support British Jews in a time of need. https://bod.org.uk/october-7-commemorative-weekend/

This thread isn't about Gaza. There's literally hundreds of other threads where you can express your thoughts about that.

Absolutely. Let's keep this thread on topic... so if people could stop referring to 'left wing nutters' and the peaceful pro Palestine marches as terrorist supporters, that would be great, and there would be no need for any response. Thank you.

quantumbutterfly · 27/09/2024 13:00

I'm glad it was shown, horrific as it was, it needs the widest audience possible.

There is no justification for 7/10.

All those taken on 7/10 must be released and returned.

Well, at the risk of hurting people's feelings, let's say it loud and clear here: Hamas, and the other groups and individuals who took part in those atrocities, are terrorists.

Oh please! You've got some nerve.

And actually terrorists and terrorist supporters are pretty relevant to this discussion, including those who show support for them.

Some nerve? Trying to keep the thread on track, when it's full of goady posts? Absolutely respect the dead of Nova, but don't goad others while you're at it. Otherwise you're the one making the thread disrespectful

Limesodaagain · 27/09/2024 14:05

The whole thing is deeply deeply depressing. I’m coming off Mumsnet ( not least because I’ve been threatened with suspension for hurting someone’s feelings on the Israel part 4 thread -something of a surprise considering all that has been said on there )

Sorry for the aside but will there be a national memorial in Israel to the victims? I was in MY after the twin towers attacks and the twin beams of light shining form the building footprints was particularly poignant. Would love to think the nova sight could be filled with lights.

I was looking for something else, and I found this project. https://my.israelgives.org/en/fundme/BringThemLight#tab3_sec1 (this is the fundraiser - I am just linking as it gives a bit of info about the project, I haven't personally donated, so can't vouch for it). It looks like they are planning a light installation of 1400 bulbs.

I came across it just now, as they have a second part of the project, where they are creating videos about the lives of each of the victims, to share how they lived, who they were, which I have been following. https://www.instagram.com/p/DAWGVsqtbv7/?locale=zh-TW&hl=am-et

THE BRING THEM LIGHT PROJECT   The BringThemLight project was born out of the profound grief and disbelief following the tragic events of October 7th, where over 1,400 lives were brutally taken.

Thank you for the info about the memorial service, I didn’t know anything was planned

I’ll be there with one year old, partner and my parents.

Burning man in America had a big memorial, it was beautifully done from the pictures I saw. very fitting given it is also a desert festival.

I had missed that, so good to know at least one festival honoured those beautiful young people.

No Glastonbury was all people waving Palestinian flags

Were you at Glastonbury? Because I was.

There was a gathering for the victims of the Nova festival on the hill on one of the evenings (I want to say Thursday). Chris Martin (the biggest set of the weekend) acknowledged both the people of Israel and Gaza during his set.
There were both Palestinian and Israeli flags in the crowd all weekend.

Thats good to know. Somehow the tv footage managed to exclude the Israeli flags as they were extremely rare in a sea of Palestinian flags in any footage I saw. dont think the festival organisers expressed any solidarity though, it would have been appropriate to do so.

With all due respect, the bbc shows a tiny fraction of an enormous festival. If your only experience of it is what you see on the tv, then you have no idea so it’s probably best not to comment.

The TV footage was BBC....who can't even bring themselves to call Hamas terrorists.

billysboy · 28/09/2024 07:03

Quite agree that this reality of what happened needs to be broadcast far and wide
