51 countries and three international organizations will also have an opportunity to speak. The court will probably take months to issue its opinion. There are public hearings scheduled every working day between now and Monday. Here is the schedule (times are local time - not GMT):

  • Mon 19 February: 10am – 1.15pm
  • Tue 20 February: 10am – 1.10pm and 3pm – 5.40pm
  • Wed 21 February: 10am – 1.10pm and 3pm – 5.40pm
  • Thu 22 February: 10am – 1.10pm and 3pm – 6.10pm
  • Fri 23 February: 10am – 1.10pm and 3pm – 6.10pm
  • Mon 26 February: 10am – 12.40am and 3pm – 4.30pm

"BREAKING: ICJ STATEMENT OF PALESTINIAN FOREIGN MINISTER

“I stand before you as 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, half of them children, are besieged and bombed, killed and maimed, starved and displaced.”

“As more than 3.5 million Palestinians in West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are subjected to colonisation of their territory and the racist violence that enables it.”

“As 1.7 million Palestinians in Israel are treated as second-class citizens … in their ancestral land.”

“As seven million Palestine refugees continue to be denied the right to return to their land and homes.”

“Palestine was not a land without a people. There was life on this land, political, cultural, social and religious.
It had schools, universities, cinemas, families and communities whose lives were impacted by a promise made thousands of miles away over a hundred years ago.

A breach of sacred trust that relegated the indigenous people of the land to the status of non-Jewish communities.

According (the Palestinian people), only civil and religious rights, denying their existence as a people and their rights as a nation.

The UN enshrined in its charter the right of all peoples to self-determination and pledges to rid the world of colonialism and apartheid. Yet, for decades Palestinians have been denied this right."

International Court of Justice calls for Israel to hand back the occupied land including Jerusalem.

End the illegal settlements and hand back the confiscated properties to Palestinians.

Punishment for crimes against humanity committed such as apartheid and genocide.

Israel must fully compensate Palestinians through repatriations for their crimes committed…

Do you think Israel will abide by this?

Israel is not taking part in this week’s hearings and reacted angrily to the 2022 UN request, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling it “despicable” and “disgraceful”.

Do you think Israel will abide by this?

Prime Minister of Israel
@IsraeliPM
The Prime Minister's Office:
Israel does not recognize the legitimacy of the proceedings of the international court in The Hague regarding 'the legality of the occupation' – which are an effort designed to infringe on Israel's right to defend itself against existential threats.

Seems unlikely

It doesn't surprise me at all @NerdWhoEatsMedlar
I read he's completely slammed it. He really feels he's above the law.

Should be interesting given that the Knesset has voted this week against recognising a Palestine state.

So 5.5 million Palestinians in the WB and Gaza can do what.. live under apartheid?

Parkingt111 · 19/07/2024 15:12

ICJ says Israel's settlement policies breached international law
The international court of justice said that Israel’s settlement policies and exploitation of natural resources in the Palestinian territories were in breach of international law.

Parkingt111 · 19/07/2024 15:13

ICJ finds Israel systematically discriminates against Palestinians
The international court of justice finds that Isreal systematically discriminates against Palestinians in the occupied territories and calls the occupation of these territories “de facto annexation”.

Parkingt111 · 19/07/2024 15:15

Will the ICJ ruling make any difference?
I highly doubt Netanyahu and his government care in the slightest that they systemically discriminate against Palestinians

I'm glad they stated Israel's exploitation of natural resources from the Palestinians.
