Stuart Seldowitz, former Deputy Director of the US State Department's Office for Israel and Palestinian Affairs from 1999 - 2003, filmed on multiple occasions harassing a food seller in Manhattan.

How do these people get promoted to positions of authority?

Disgusting monster. Smiling like a psychopath. I hope he'll be prosecuted.

FOJN · 22/11/2023 14:57

He probably won't be though will he?

I wonder if he made his contempt for Palestinians obvious when he was working for the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs? And how many of his colleagues shared his views?

The continued harassment when he's asked to leave is really unpleasant to see.

I’m impressed by the level of restraint that gentleman showed here. If he’d have been calling me a terrorist he’d have had the hot sauce squirted right in his eyes. That poor chap just trying to earn an honest living selling food. I’m furious for him.

FrancescaContini · 22/11/2023 15:38

What an unspeakably nasty piece of shit that individual is. The fact that he once held such a prominent position in the US government makes me think that he must surely be suffering from dementia or similar to behave with such blatant hostility and appalling racism to the food seller.

Has this been widely circulated in the US? Has the media there picked up on it?

BelleHathor · 22/11/2023 17:11

He's been trending for 24 hours on Social media. There are multiple videos, it was a sustained campaign of harassment and racist abuse.

He worked in the Obama administration as an advisor on the middle east (ever wonder why no progress on a 2 state solution?).

Ps. There has been an influx of posters asking why are you doing this, what's posting online going to do etc? Well the 300 thousand plus impressions on twitter alone mean that this man employer's from years ago are issuing statements of condemnation, the police have to act and the men he abused can work.

THIS GUY WORKED FOR OBAMA???

Stuart Seldowitz is a guy who used to work for Obama on the National Security Council South Asia Directorate. And here he is being extremely racist to a rand...

I honestly wish I studied law at uni. I would have contacted the man being abused and represented him pro bono just to have the satisfaction of dragging the abuser's sorry self through the courts.

Yes!!!!

A New York political lobbying firm has offered to represent a halal street food vendor who was recently subjected to a sustained racist attack by one of its own consultants, a former state department official, in the latest encounter reflecting tension in the city over the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The Manhattan-based Gotham Government Relations firm said on Tuesday that it would cut all ties with Stuart Seldowitz, who worked in the US Department of State’s Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs from 1999 to 2003 and later at the national security council during the Obama administration, after he was filmed harassing an Upper East Side street vendor.

On another thread, there were at least 2-3 mumsnet posters saying he’s a mentally ill man and he means no harm 🤢. No harm? He’s showing signs of being a sadistic, evil extremist by mocking Islam and being outright racist and the mumsnet posters are talking about how he’s done nothing wrong. I couldn’t believe the audacity of these posters. He’s not mentally ill, ffs he’s rascist. He’s saying out loud and proud that 4k Palestinian children deserved to be killed and that he regrets more weren’t killed and these deluded posters are actually sympathising with him. They sound as vulgar and horrible as he is, if they are sympathising with him. I am still shocked that some posters on mumsnet are as racist and deluded as he is. What they didn’t realise is the backlash and outrage on social media because of this man’s vulgar racist attack. I said it on the other thread and I will say it again here, thank god evil people like that only hide out behind screens and keyboards here and don’t make themselves known in real life.

ColadhSamh · 22/11/2023 18:37

Means no harm? How can anyone think that. It was a sustained and lenghty attack clearly designed to provoke. Unfortunately for him he didn't get the reaction he hoped for but fortunate for us that we get to see his real persona.
The best revenge is what we are witnessing now, exposure of an arrogant arsehole who was clearly intent on intimidating and harassing. To think that he was in the position he was. What hope do the Palestinian people have?

Exactly. He is pure evil. He found a hardworking young Muslim immigrant and began to racially attack him and his religion. This is not a mentally ill man, he is a sadistic bully. You can see pure evil in his eyes. Lots of people on X mentioned that there’s an eerie Hannibal lector look about him and I totally agree. But for someone to watch the video and express sympathy for him and say his eyes show he is unwell 🤮

stormy4319trevor · 22/11/2023 20:10

How did this man end up working for the government! Terrifying people like this have power.

Tigerteal · 22/11/2023 20:19

It’s simple
white men= mentally ill
brown men= terrorist

those women on the other thread are racist to say that

Flowersfield · 22/11/2023 20:41

Whats scary is these are the kind of people in power that are currently not agreeing to a ceasefire.

HaveALaff · 22/11/2023 21:18

If these are the people in charge then what hope do we have. I feel like those in charge are the most racist and abusive. We see it time and time again.

Can't believe anyone on mumsnet would ever attempt to excuse this man. Very worrying.

I was thinking earlier that there are not many good governments that I know of - they often seem ineffectual, corrupt and unprincipled. I hear good things about Norway, but I really don't know how satisfied people are with them. Makes me wonder what is wrong with political systems, and the people who work in them! There's too much opportunity to make money dishonestly and promote unhinged agendas,

lotus786 · 22/11/2023 22:02

Vile vile human being. I hope he gets exactly what he deserves. The street vendor is a saint for keeping calm and so well mannered in the presence of such a hateful man and to think he was an advisor on the Middle East is terrifying.

eester · 22/11/2023 22:42

Shocking bigotry. How can anyone think its ok to behave like that?

How indeed.
If he was in charge of the US State Department's Office for Israel and Palestinian Affairs from 1999 - 2003, one can be sure he furthered harm to Palestinians.

FOJN · 23/11/2023 05:58

I was wrong, he's been arrested.

I'm surprised and relieved to find that sometimes hateful people, who think they are untouchable, don't actually get away with it.
