Stuart Seldowitz, former Deputy Director of the US State Department's Office for Israel and Palestinian Affairs from 1999 - 2003, filmed on multiple occasions harassing a food seller in Manhattan.

How do these people get promoted to positions of authority?

They seem like people and the food looks lovely. I don’t know about harassment law in the USA but clearly this awful man is now being dealt with.

I was wrong, he's been arrested.

I'm surprised and relieved to find that sometimes hateful people, who think they are untouchable, don't actually get away with it.

They didn't have any choice but to arrest him. He's not any randomer drug addict, and besides the videos of him went viral. It was clear from the start that there were many grounds for prosecution.

He is now facing multiple charges, including aggravated harassment, hate crime and stalking.

Kudos to the vendor for showing so much restrain for someone his age. It seemed to me the psycho was trying to provoke him into reacting. He would have certainly won in my case and I would have been arrested instead of him.

What a vile racist.

Thankfully the racist has been arrested but apparently when the vendor first reported him to the police they said they couldn't do anything.

I wonder if it was recorded as a hate crime/ Islamophobic incident even.

These racial incidents that occur to many Muslim shop keepers, takeaway owners, Uber drivers, service staff etc most rarely if ever get reported. And even if they did, the police will only get involved if they get violent. Most likely not even reported.

notsoready4school · 23/11/2023 08:36

I have just learnt that it is Islamophobia awareness month, had no idea of that. Given these types of incidents are hugely underreported and not taken seriously unless violence is involved, there should be a way to highlight the issue so the government could given funding dedicated to this issue as well. Missing will definitely be experiencing a heightened level of aggression as they always do after terrorist attacks

There are 4m Muslims in the UK and even a small percentage increase in incidents would be a huge number, especially given the public facing roles so many are in.
