Jews and Muslims are cousins

We are the children of Abraham. To be a Muslim, you have to believe and embrace Moses and Jesus as prophets of God. And the Torah and Bible as books of God. These are part of the core and fundamental elements of faith in Islam.

Just that really. Bit sick of all the whataboutery. All this aggression, leading to more aggression, leading to further aggression. It's all so heartbreaking.

I just wish there was a bit more of this from our faith leaders.

I agree. We have more in common than we have differences.

Trulywonderful · 15/11/2023 20:06

True, the Quran teaches Muslims to honour the Hebrew prophets. Entire chapters of the Quran are named after the prophets and mentions of Bani-Israel fill the Quran.

It is even argued by some that today’s Israel is a fulfilment of the Quranic command? That today’s Jews are the children of Jacob, Joseph and Moses?

In the archetypal conflict between Moses and Pharaoh, Muslims are with the Jewish people.

The crisis is much bigger than Israel tjough, there is no appeasing it. The Red-Green alliance seeks to advance Iran’s radical allies of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Brotherhood and others.

Whether people believe this or not we are all people of the book/scriptures. There is some much in common with our daily ways from pray routines, food rules, charity and family values. One of my Muslim friends even gets her meat from our Kosher butcher.

Both communities definitely feel the same prejudice from the same people in the west. In London it is my Muslim friends and colleagues that I discuss the latest round of Jew hate with. They totally get it and are feeling the same worries for their own communities. After all in the west if Jews are not safe then Muslims won't be either.

It is very sad that various leaders from both sides throughout history and currently try to divide and often succeed. Not to mention modern day activists that try to spread hate and mistrust between us.

It's not a Jews vs Muslims issue. Nettenyahu is a dictator killing innocent people and the world refuses to condemn it. Labour refusing to call for a ceasefire - I was going to vote for them but not anymore. Cudos to MPs for resigning over the issue. I'm voting green now probably.
One death is one death to many in my eyes. All those children.... hits you even harder when you're a parent. Christ.

Yes it isn't a Jews vs Muslims issue but sadly so many extremists leaders over time have tried to convince their followers it. Unfortunately a lot of people still believe it is a them and us thing. Then seek to divide are communities

My husband gave up on the main parties a few years ago and now votes green

Totally agree one child's death is to many.

Well said, OP. ☪️✡️✝️

That’s why I respect all religions as a Muslim. Islam comes after Judaism & Christianity. I’m sure some of my ancestors must have been Hindu and also Sikh.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 15/11/2023 21:05

Well said OP.

thatone · 15/11/2023 21:07

Thank you OP - a timely reminder.

Finteq · 15/11/2023 21:09

theconfidenceofwho · 15/11/2023 21:14

Agreed.
And Yes where are all the big religious leaders? And I include the pope, where is he? As a Catholic I want the Pope getting himself pronto to Israel and Gaza and insisting on face to face talks! In fact leave the useless politicians out of it and get the religious leaders to sort it out by reminding themselves of what they share,I bet they could do it. Because right now I don’t see the acknowledgment of any kind of God in the atrocities we are seeing.

Newstaronthehorizon · 15/11/2023 21:32

Get the men out of it and let mothers with babies and hoping children take over.

Unfortunately what the words of God tell us is that Man has a choice and as a result there is always going to be war, exploitation, gaining lands, being kicked out of lands, hellfire and brimstone.

We have not learned anything, no lessons from the past. Religious differences should not be exploited to be the cause of war. But religions divide into us and them. Othering is the source of evil. Religious beliefs have a lot to answer for.

BadFaith · 15/11/2023 21:37

The pope has been calling for humanitarian corridors and a two state solution and more aid to Gaza.

Which is all very well but it doesn’t feel like enough to me.

Mombie · 15/11/2023 22:06

Agreed, thanks for this thread. Othering plants a seed to hatred in our hearts and I think we have to actively stop ourselves from doing that. As a Muslim woman, I appreciate the sentiment behind this thread.

sadly, it is only ever powerful (mostly) men who win but at what cost to the rest of us.

I'll have to admit Im not well versed on the Quran but I do know that Israel, and the children of Israel (Isra'il meaning journey of the night I think? after the journey Moses makes to the land that is promised to him by God?) is mentioned in it many times. Yes you're right Muslims also believe in Joseph, Jacob, Jonah, Noah, and all the other old testament Hebrew prophets. And believe that the current day Jews are the children of these prophets. Even the names of God in Judaism and Islam are so similar.

You're right it theoretically is not - but it is because it results in Antisemitism and Islamophobia, and in our tribal thinking the group we end up in happens to have the majority of one of the religions in it.

We have so many similarities.
And I agree, it is men in suits and positions of power that have created this mess - and perpetuate it ad infinitum

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 15/11/2023 22:25

It's not about religion.

It's about land, power, money. And men killing people over it.

We're all brothers and sisters, even us non-Abrahamic atheists!

Parkingt111 · 15/11/2023 22:30

Thank you OP
Yes as a muslim woman myself the religion that I feel I can connect the most too in terms of many similar beliefs is Judaism. It has the most similarities compared to other religions
We also respect all the prophets peace be upon them
We have the same forefather the prophet Abraham peace be upon him

crazyivy · 15/11/2023 22:32

agree totally op

CharingX976 · 15/11/2023 22:34

You are doing more harm than good by re-enforcing the false idea that this is a conflict between Jews and Muslims.

For one thing, 1/5 of Israel's population is Arab. Lots of soldiers in the IDF will be Arabic-speaking Muslims.

And there is also a significant number of Christians in Palestine.

Parkingt111 · 15/11/2023 22:37

But regardless of faith we are all connected through our humanity
