Jews and Muslims are cousins

We are the children of Abraham. To be a Muslim, you have to believe and embrace Moses and Jesus as prophets of God. And the Torah and Bible as books of God. These are part of the core and fundamental elements of faith in Islam.

Just that really. Bit sick of all the whataboutery. All this aggression, leading to more aggression, leading to further aggression. It's all so heartbreaking.

I just wish there was a bit more of this from our faith leaders.

Here you go: "Islam is the second-largest religion in Israel, constituting 1.707 million and around 18.1% of the country's population as of 2022.[1] The ethnic Arab citizens of Israel make up the majority of its Muslim population,[2] making them the largest minority group in Israel."

That's a very significant percentage.

CharingX976 · 15/11/2023 22:39

There's even an all-Arab unit within the IDF. It's called the Gadsar.

It's not about religion.

It's about land, power, money. And men killing people over it.

We're all brothers and sisters, even us non-Abrahamic atheists!

It's not and it is. It's not because the politics of it all have elbowed religion to the side. And it is because it is a deeply held belief that there is such a thing as a land promised to the Jews. Like I mentioned earlier the Quran even mentions it. It's also having an impact on Jews and Muslims all over the world with the rise in hate crimes towards both groups. So yes you're right, it's deviated away from religion, but these Abrahamic religions and this political situation are inextricably linked.

What you say about men being in charge - quite a few others have also mentioned - and I've seen quite a few times on social media. I think this is more the problem.

You are doing more harm than good by re-enforcing the false idea that this is a conflict between Jews and Muslims.

For one thing, 1/5 of Israel's population is Arab. Lots of soldiers in the IDF will be Arabic-speaking Muslims.

And there is also a significant number of Christians in Palestine.

As a Muslim I disagree. In my experience this is quite a lot to do with Jews and Muslims.

It is sad and strange that most religions at their core teach peacefulness, kindness, tolerance and forgiveness but men pervert these for money, power and land. It's why really religions are just a excuse for me to display their most cruel base behaviours and ultimately why I'm an atheist.

I think you misunderstand what people are mostly saying.

Posters are just coming together to say that the divide in our communities is wrong

Yes I know you are correct with your facts but this thread isn't supporting the fact that Israel is all Jewish. Just that we should all get along if not for mostly men and power etc

I could be wrong though

I just fact checked this. There are 606 Muslims in the IDF, many are bedouin or from central Asia. There are around 3 million registered solders of the IDF available for military service. That makes the Muslim population of the IDF 606/3m which is around 0.0002%

This. This has fuck all to do with religion. This is an enmity talked about in the Old Testament and I assume in the Torah and likely the Koran although I haven't read the latter 2. Remember Samson And Delilah? Samson was an Israelite (Jew) and Delilah assumed to be a Philistine (Palestinian). This happened way before Jesus and Mohamed's times. How could it have been a question of Jew vs Muslim when there were no Muslims.

Read your Old Testament. What's happening now is pretty much what happened then just with better weaponry.

And yet people are asking the Pope and Keir Starmer to somehow intervene and solve it. As if!

I'm not a supporter of Palestine or Israel. This isn't Right vs Wrong. It's Wrong vs Wrong. And as always the children get in the way.

@THisbackwithavengeance Palestinians aren’t descended from Philistines, there’s no connection there.

Everyone I know who has a faith uses it to do good things in the world, to help others in times of need.
You may ask why they can''t do this without their faith but faith is the catalyst that drives them and can unite and support communities.
The flip side is that some wicked people use it as a tool to manipulate the lost and vulnerable.

The Arabic and Turkish words for Palestine are "Filistin".

Of course the current Palestinians may have ethnic roots from migratory Arabs into the area after the expansion of Islam but that would presumably strengthen the Israeli position that they - the Palestinians - have no ancestral right to the land?

LolaSmiles · 16/11/2023 08:42

It's not a Muslim/Jewish issue, however much the people on top want to make it such.

It's a shit show caused by decades of terrible global posturing and enabling based on geopolitical interests, power and money.

It's innocent civilians who end up paying the cost, at times the ultimate cost, for power-hungry individuals who will stop at nothing to implement their ideology.

Yes, this derives from when the Romans invaded Judea and later renamed it Syria-Palaestina. Palestinians have valid ancestral and indigenous claims to the land, it’s just not via the Philistines.

About 10,000 years ago mankind settled down. We got shorter, ate worse foods, started (or rather men did, not women) amassing land, women, grew crops, expanded the population. In a sense after hundreds of thousands of years on the planet we deteriorated from that point on when our possessions became more than an axe and a pot we could carry around.

Anyway we are where we are. Perhaps the UK offers the most hope as 52% of our population does not believe in God (in England and Wales) and the about 47% are Christian who tendn ot to be fundamentalist Christians wanting to reclaim Jerusalem as they did in the Crusades.

Perhaps it is men not women who want to claim land, power, glory , wives (muslim men can have up to 4 at once and fundamentalist mormons need 3 to get to the highest levels of heaven and indeed Abraham in the Bible had 2 or 3 wives at once).

May be women can rise, take all positions of power in Gaza, in Saudi, in Iran, in China, in Russia, in North Korea, never mind elsewhere. Perhaps we can try to impose common sense on men - that land and who owns it and silly past grievances should just be put aside and we all accept land rights as they are. I am not up in Scotland trying to claim back land lost in the "clearances". I get on with it.

Newstaronthehorizon · 16/11/2023 16:49

All arabic Tribes were nomadic.

Tribal conflict was a part of life.

Each tribe had their own methods to protect themselves and their children and family groups.

'Us' and 'them' defined good/ evil ; friend, foe.

Fertile land became scarce after clearing it for firewood and after being grazed by their goats etc.

Particularly when people settled down and started farming they needed to protect their 'property' from outsiders.

Having faith in a God defined one group from other groups.

Each group believes their own prophet or messenger speaks the word of God and therefore the Truth.

The wonderful global cultural heritage from India to Africa to the ME to Europe to Russia show how world religions have shaped the way of life, food, art, buildings, beliefs, history and language of the world's people.

It's pure arrogance to believe one religion is better than anyone else's and contributes to intolerance and 'othering'.

Being judgemental and intolerant breeds hatred.

Humans don't seem to be able to see a connection between their own day to day behaviour and its impact.

Nothing has changed. Over 2000 years of never practicing what you preach.

Xenia · 17/11/2023 14:52

Indeed and one study of Amazon tribes where it was thought they lived in peace and harmony like some Garden of Eden found instead 30% of the men had killed and they were constantly fighting mostly over land but very often over women. Perhaps nothing changes ever except that when there were few humans on the planet we all had so much space as we moved around there was less of a fight for resources. Although even then I am now 3% Neanderthal genes and that ancestor of mine certainly did not do well when faced with our own species.
