Man's inhumanity to man (usually men not women) has no bounds although Israel is certainly on the side of right in my view in the current conflict. Pakistan is sending 1.7m Afghanistanians back to Afghanistan and Iran is sending many back too.

Hamas however brought this on itself as it knew full well when it gave Israel the equivalent of the US 9/11. There is little Hamas would not do even using its people as human shields. The sooner Israel wins the better.

Civilian proportion of deaths higher than in all world conflicts in 20th century.

Collective punishment and genocide by Israeli govt. Shameful.

I feel the same, so incredibly angry that this has been allowed to continue. These people have been under siege for 17 years and now they are being ethnically cleansed, and our government is behind it. Yesterday I saw a video of a young girl with what looked like an untreated compound leg fracture. She was covered in blood and her bone was exposed and she was pleading for help. Heartbroken doesn't even cover it 💔

I have been watching videos, on both sides, its atrocious. The difference is one is a government actively ethnic cleansing and the other is a terrorist group. Israel has by far exceeded the damage and death toll. I dont understand how anyone can say what Israel is doing is OKAY. It is an apartheid, terrrorist state and its colours are beginning to be revealed by innocent civilians capturing the horrors on the ground and sharing via social media.

I’m amazed how many people on these threads seem new to global conflicts and the suffering of children under regimes around the world. Twitter is also full of the terrible images of dead children in Yemen, Syria, (current death toll of children in Yemen stands at 11,000 with many more starving to death). Man’s inhumanity to man isn’t limited to the Palestine/Israel conflict and I will also say our government has very little say or influence over what Israel will do.

Up until about 2 weeks ago the RAF had made over 30 transporter plane trips between Cyprus and Tel Aviv. What are the UK supplying to Israel?

I've heard that the government has issued a D notice, it's difficult to confirm given the nature of D notices but if it's true then there is something the UK government would rather we didn't know about what they are doing to support Israel. What are they doing?

Our government may not be able to influence the Israeli government but we could stop assisting them in their genocide.

The conflict in Yemen has been going on for 8 years, if the rate of child deaths in Gaza continues as it is and the conflict in Gaza lasted as long there would be nearly 400,000 dead children.

Man's inhumanity is not limited to this conflict but the death and destruction carried out in the name of self defence is truly exceptional but the world watches on and does nothing.

The worst thing is that none of it will make Israel, or any of us, safer.

Would that be like the broken pelvis that Hamas caused when they gang raped women? Does your empathy only work one way?

jammysocks · 09/12/2023 19:34

@Mousecatgame
The UN have asked israel repeatedly to give them access to investigate this and have stated it needs to be recorded and documented accordingly. But israel are ignoring them and not responding. Surely if they want UN backing, this is something they should allow.

I don't trust the UN. Clearly neither does Israel.

Aswad · 09/12/2023 19:39

At this point I think it’s worth ignoring anyone that mentions Hamas on these threads. I’m sure their aim is to derail these threads and/or get them deleted.
and in case you’re that fucking thick, rape and murder is never ok.

jammysocks · 09/12/2023 19:39

@Mousecatgame 🫨 ok

Aswad · 09/12/2023 19:41

I watched a video of a boy having his head stitched with no anaesthesia and it was heartbreaking. We hear about the death tolls but imagine all the various injuries that these poor people have suffered. Life long injuries. And the mental anguish I can’t even comprehend.

Aswad · 09/12/2023 19:42

How long will it take to rebuild hospitals? Will they have access to mental health services? Schools?

stormy4319trevor · 09/12/2023 19:53

People I know are very distressed about the suffering in Gaza, but they say what can I do? They worry about their children, paying the bills and keeping their jobs. They give money if they can, sign petitions, some attend vigils and protests. It's a collective trauma to see such horror and be unable to do anything about it.

Without Hammas there would be no Conflict in the ME board. You would be knitting on the couch with a glass of Lambrini. I'm happy to be ignored by the echo.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 09/12/2023 20:04

I wish mumsnet would do something about these threads. They just seem so salacious with their competitive trauma and overwrought grief over events 3000 miles away that almost pale into insignificance when compared with other horrors going on that don't get a thread, never mind a whole board. Fwiw, I fully agree with Xenia and as far as I can see the only genocide and ethnic cleansing was perpetrated on Israelis. The correct number of Palestinian deaths is still to be confirmed as well, the only figures so far are from Hamas and I wonder if they include eg the 2 men they lynched not long ago.

Yes, the role of the Hamas government needs to be seriously examined and it is not derailing to do so nor can it possibly be accused of being deletion-worthy. An echo chamber like this benefits nobody.

Not enough of a majority to make a difference.

braticus · 09/12/2023 20:12

@Alltheprettyseahorses The death and suffering of the Palestinians is plain to see. Video after video of death and destruction perpetrated by Israel. The death toll is likely higher than is currently being reported. Gaza looks like a wasteland thanks to the IDF carpet bombing. Again there is shitloads of video evidence. You choosing not to look doesn't make it any less true.

headstone · 09/12/2023 20:13

Mousecatgame sadly so, only USA matters, but humanity will prevail we have to believe this.
